  1. Sadly, I think between that post, the "at least Hitler did some things for his people" comment, and admitting he cried at the end of Click, that maybe Laz has gone off the deep end for good.

  3. Oh man, Mr. Hole In One definitely is on topic with this thread. Really anything on WCW Saturday Night from the time Thunder debuted can be mentioned here. My favorite Darsow in WCW moment may have been an uber rare Worldwide exclusive angle in Summer of 99ish where he would get confused and come out as Krusher Khruschev when the announcer introduced him as Mr. Hole In One or would come out as The Blacktop Bully when he was introduced as Krusher Khruschev. Amused me to no end. The only tiny thing preventing it from becoming a perfect comedy angle is that he couldn't come out as The Repo Man or Smash.
  4. I've been wanting to do this Let's Talk About for some time but am only now just getting around to it. I may be the biggest mark for latter day WCW Saturday Night on the internet. For the last year or so of its existance when Jimmy Hart was in charge of the show, WCW Saturday Night may as well have been a separate brand from Nitro and Thunder. There was a deluge of wrestlers on Saturday Night that you rarely saw on the other two shows. It was WCW's crossroads, where semi-stars of the future (Chuck Palumbo, Mark Jindrak, Devon Storm, Elix Skipper, Chris Harris, Vampiro,Shark Boy, Lash LeRoux) met hasbeens on their way out (The Barbarian, Bobby Eaton, Robert Gibson, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, Van Hammer, The Armstrongs,Tommy Rogers, Al Green) with a bunch of never weres (Frankie Lancaster, Dave Burkhead, Disorderly Conduct) and then-current midcarders thrown in for kicks. Every Saturday Night, I could almost guarantee that I would see one or two matches that were better than anything I saw on Nitro or Thunder. Devon Storm tore it up everytime he appeared on Saturday Night. I remember he had a rocking match with Booker T. Then he moved to the big shows, became Crowbar and teamed with David Flair, and was never quite the same IMO. Though I guess, teaming with David Flair could do that to you. I even enjoyed the semi lame exclusive storylines they had on the show like a bizarre four way mini-feud between Erik Watts and Jim Duggan, The Armstrongs, Steven Regal and Dave Taylor, and The First Family (Brian Knobbs and Hugh Morrus). Then there was a Barry Horowitz-Alan Funk feud that was fueled by Alan Funk making fun of Horowitz for never winning. I don't think it ever got resolved because Russo and Bischoff returned and the show became all recaps. And who could forget "Janitor" Jim Duggan fishing the TV title out of a garbage can and defending against the likes of Fidel Sierra, Steven Regal (who Duggan sent packing to the WWF), and Robert Gibson? So share your memories about the last days of WCW Saturday Night. "Hardwork" Bobby Walker, we salute you!
  5. Slightly off-topic, but why does Idris Elba only get major roles in really shitty movies? Stringer's got to get a new agent.
  6. I understand how Edwin can have "Touch and Go" in his third tier but for some reason, it's become my favorite Cars song over the last 2-3 years. I think it comes from an acquaintance's frequent, gushing appraisal of Panorama (The Cars unsuccessful "dark and moody" album that "Touch and Go" came from). The bastard brainwashed me. Another underrated 80s top 40 power pop song I think deserves mention here is The Outfield's "Your Love". I'll do my tiers of The Cars later tonight.
  7. Huge, huge fan of power pop. This is my thread. I own all of Fountains of Wayne's studio catalogue including their B-side album they released a couple years back. Great stuff, though I have to say the first two (the self titled and Utopia Parkway) are definitely my favorites. I saw them live last summer and they were pretty damn good. Their reputation as a mediocre live act sort of surprises me. I recently acquired Graham Parker's Squeezing Out Sparks+Sparks Live and Nick Lowe's Jesus of Cool and those both qualify as power pop classics in my book. Though the latter may be too ecclectic to simply be pigeonholed as a power pop album. I think you'd rather like the former, Czech. It's almost like Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band decided to jam with The Cars. And Jesse's Girl is almost up there with the first tier of The Cars greatest hits IMO.
  8. Chris Kattan still owes me $3 for the time I rented Corky Romano.
  9. Oh lord! That last one is tremendous, I don't think I've seen it before. He looks like a henchmen in every bad 80s action movie.
  10. There are like a dozen documentaries on Westboro Baptist Church, you might have seen a different one.
  11. I got a bag of the new Honey Dijon Cape Cod potato chips. A pretty solid chip but I think the two originals (plain and Sea Salt and Vinegar) are the two best kind of Cape Cod chips. I also really like the Aged Cheddar and Jalepeno kind. They also had a new Ranch kind that I might try later.
  12. Laz's comment was almost dumb enough for me to warrant bumping The Dumbest Comments of The Day thread. Almost. Edit: Never noticed it but the David Koresh-Randy Newman resemblence is damn near uncanny. While Koresh was probably charismatic, I doubt he produced anything as good as "Sail Away"
  13. I stand corrected. I wasn't taking the non Jewish victims into account for some reason. Forgive me gypsys, homosexuals, and communists and others I've forgotten.
  14. Oh, don't say that. Hitler was MUCH better than Phelps. He actually HELPED the people he ruled over... With an exception or six million...
  15. Click was terrible. I'm still befuddled at the amount of people I've met who enjoyed it. It was one half watered down Adam Sandler comedy and one half overly maudlin Frank Capra homage. I will say that the latter was done better than the former but that's not saying much.
  16. And in the Sweet 16. I've never understood why me, King, and KOAB never formed some sort of half-assed alliance. We could call ourselves "Three Kings" and have matching sigs!
  17. The Quebecers were The Amazing French Canadians in WCW and they were managed by Colonial Robert Parker. They weren't total jobbers but they were only around for a couple of months. All I can remember from their run is some sort of feud with Harlem Heat and the fact that they were Arn Anderson's opponents in his last match. But Jacques did get a house show win over Hogan during that time so it wasn't a complete loss. I think if they unified the tag team titles, it might have a shot at being decent again. As it stands now, there aren't enough good tag teams for two divisions
  18. Before there was Mayweather/Big Show, there was Andre The Giant Vs Chuck Wepner (who was allegedly the inspiration for Rocky Balboa). Here's the match (featuring a young Vince McMahon Jr on commentary) from Shea Stadium. Andre The Giant Vs Chuck Wepner (6-25-76) Part 2
  19. I think people are overreacting about the administration change. Look, no one's more upset than me about Cheech and Dandy resigning. At the same time, there's no better poster to replace them and carry on in the direction they were heading in than King.
  20. Is it just me or was the show slightly darker than usual? As for how it was, it was a show. It was there. Gnarls Barkley was pretty awesome and The Death By Chocolate shorts were chuckle worthy.
  21. 1. Do you think that the WWE will ever seriously push the division again? It comes and goes. They have brief fits where it looks like the tag team division might make somewhat of a comeback. There was actually a millisecond or two a year or two ago when The Hardy Boyz reunited and they were feuding with Cade and Murdoch and The World's Greatest Tag Team where I almost thought the WWE was serious about bringing it back but that was kind of short-lived. In short, no, I don't think they'll ever seriously push the division long term again. Once every couple years or so, there's a month or two like the one mentioned where it looks like they might bring back the division and then they forget about it. 2. Do you think we will see another renaissance of the division? I'm not so sure. It's not like the tag teams they have now are terrible, in fact I like the majority of them but again WWE is so inconsistant about pushing them. 3. Why did the mid 90's suck so much? What teams would you have liked to have seen around this time? The short answer is the WWF sucked in general in the mid 90s. However, I will say that the tag team division around '93-'94 was extremely underrated. I think The Quebecers may be the most underrated WWF Tag Team Champs of all time plus you had The Headshrinkers, The Steiner Brothers for a bit, The 123 Kid and Marty Jannetty's short-lived team, and The Smoking Gunns. That was a good time for tag team wrestling. I'm assuming you're talking about when the Godwinns, Bodydonnas, and Smoking Gunns were battling for the WWF Tag Team titles (and Sunny's affection). Yeah, that sucked. With an exception or two, tag team wrestling kind of sucked in general from the time The Quebecers left to the time The New Age Outlaws emerged. As for what teams I would have liked to have seen, I can't think of any teams off the top of my head that I would have liked them to bring in but I wish I could have seen more of Furnas and Lafon. I think there were injury problems there though so hence why they didn't go so far after their inital push. 4. Do you think the draft has had a lot to do with killing the tag team scene? Definitely. I'd argue that even up till '02, the tag team division was in somewhat decent shape but the draft broke up pretty much every one of the WWE's tag teams except for Billy and Chuck. So they ended up facing a lot of makeshift tag teams and while I don't have problems with the occasional makeshift team getting a shot at the Tag Titles when it's happening every month, it gets old fast. 5. Do you think the average fan wants to watch tag team wrestling? Can it still draw? Does it have a place in the modern WWE? Sure, quality, well booked wrestling will always have a place in WWE. 6. Who are your favorite tag teams? Oh man, where to start? For WWF/E, I like The Rockers, Demolition, The Hart Foundation, The Headshrinkers, The Steiner Brothers, Owen Hart and Davey Boy Smith, The Hardy Boyz, Edge and Christian, London and Kendrick.
  22. Planet Stasiak Vs William Regal (and preceding backstage skit)
  23. I'm genuinely (and pleasently) surprised that Czech is a fan. Never took him for a fan of old school slapstick. And there's actually a really bad 80s comedy about obsessed Stooge fans that they used to play on HBO all the time. It starred Josh Mostel (Zero's kid, in a bunch of Adam Sandler movies) and Sid Caesar (Is there anything that guy won't do? He was on Pink Lady and Jeff for god's sake!)
  24. I think Sandler's done a lot worse than that. Mr. Deeds, Click and 8 Crazy Nights are three that I can think of off the top of my head that were way worse than Little Nicky. In fact, I don't think Sandler's done a good straight comedy in years. I used to love Sandler's movies and I saw them all on opening weekend but he lost me around the time of Mr. Deeds. Click is when he really lost me though. I don't know if I'll ever even rent one of his new movies again after that piece of shit. And if you really want to see normally funny people slumming, rent Envy. I can see that Black and Stiller were going for something different but god that movie was so flat and lifeless.
