What is it gonna finally take for this company to realize that what they're doing is simply not working and take a change in direction? Probably nothing short of Spike threatening to not renew the deal if ratings don't go up. TNA just picked the absolute worst time to try and become a bigtime wrestling company. Overall, wrestling's popularity is probably the lowest it's been in quite a while; most people that still watch WWE programming are pretty much watching out of habit at this point. It certainly doesn't help when you turn to Impact and see that a guy that reached his peak popularity in the late 80's-mid 90's (Sting) feuding for the title with someone that casual fans either barely remember or don't buy as a world champion (Jarrett). They absolutely need to put the belt on Joe already and push the fuck out of him; that's really their only chance to draw any attention outside their base audience. I watch TUF religiously, but I haven't watched a minute of Impact in months becuase there just isn't much to interest me. They desperately need to change that if they want to take advantage of the lead-in audience they have.

And its produced exactly zero runs. Why people are still hanging on to the hope that they'll go on this magical run and make the postseason escapes me. They'd get slapped around like last year, anyway. And yeah, Ortiz caught the same bug that Kyle Snyder pitched with yesterday (Snyder was ordered to stay at the hotel today because of it).

Yeah, that was a nice touch by Papa. Beefbaq from me, starting with the match I was involved in (since that's the first one I read): Miami Mayhem - Definitely shorter than the other MM matches, but it had some good action. If this was a true blowoff, this probably would have had more to it....but I've said too much already. "I Quit" Cage Match: Fantastic opener. EWC outdid himself with this match. Nothing flashy in this one, just two guys that don't like each other pounding the crap out of each other with the heel trying to gain whatever advantage he can. Brutal finish too as that's a pretty big win and revenge for TK. Tag Team World Cup Semis & Finals: Alf's done a pretty good job with this idea, as it has given us some new tag teams to play with. Both semi matches were good reads, but the finals was where it was really at. I've said it multiple times: Team Heyross needs more airtime. That final could be the start of a nice little rivalry between the teams. More later. LATER: Let's move on. HI-YAH Tag Title match: Ventura complaining about the referee not having control is pure Jesse. Lots of flying around and quick moves, a nice contrast to the other tag matches on the card (the World Cup matches being more of a pure wrestling style). The no-contest opens the door for a rematch, so I'm looking forward to more of this. OAOAST Tag Title 3-Way: Buffer's catchphrase is getting a little overused here, I think. Some unique spots used here (Uber's double powerslam) and it was kind of a mixture of the other tag matches, containing both some nice wrestling and some high-flying moves from the Rockers. Just nonstop action from Tony. That match would be a bitch to write if I had to do it. Black T face turn? Hmmmmm...... 24/7 Title Match: This one is my MOTN so far. I'm sure KC's been wanting to write this match for a long time. HEY, Maddox is stealing Prince Killings' schtick! I like how the match takes a light tone at the beginning, but as soon as Rodez hurts his knee things get serious fast. I also liked the chess match quality of the match as both guys have clearly scouted the other and both know it, so Rodez does things like taking advantage of Maddox looking for one move (an enziguri) and hitting a DDT instead. The finish totally makes sense and gives Maddox a huge win. Yeah, definitely my MOTN so far. Zack vs. Bruce: Here we go! I'm expecting two guys just tearing each other apart. Blood 30 seconds in...sounds about right. Damn, you can feel the emotion in this match, how these guys hate each other. Interesting finish, as the bigger Blank just beats Zack into unconciousness. This wasn't supposed to be anything more than a bloodbath, and it delivered in spades. Can't wait for Zack to get a rematch and try to get vengeance again. World Title match: After the previous two matches, this kind of doesn't seem as emotional, but that isn't really Alf's writing style. This was a sound main event with lots of back and forth action. Congrats to the new champion. In all, definitely the best PPV of 2006 so far. Rodez/Maddox is my MOTN.

Aside from Itzin and Smart getting screwed (Alan Alda? In what universe?), and the Daily Show and Barry f'n Manilow winning when the other nominees blew both of them out of the water (even Jon Stewart knew it), I can't complain too much about the results. Shaloub was pretty good in the few episodes of Monk I've seen. That vote and the vote for Actor/Drama was probably pretty close. Conan hit it out of the park. The opening montage, trapping Bob Newhart in a chamber so the show won't go long, tremendous. The only thing that dragged it down was the Aaron Spelling tribute.
-
All I hope is that Scrubs pulls off an upset, either Gregory Itzin or Jean Smart win and the show doesn't turn into a big love-in for The West Wing and Will & Grace. That and Conan is funny.

Well, what else can you say? The local government fucked up first and the federal government fucked up in not coming in and bailing their asses out before it was too late.

To be fair, I could strike out Javy Lopez at this point. Who knew that Jason Varitek, a guy having a subpar year, going down would screw this offense over so much? I know Manny's injuries play a part as well, but Mirabelli and Lopez are just death in that lineup. You'd think that Josh Bard would have learned how to catch Wakefield at some point in the season.

Conine is still playing? Wha? It seems like 3/4ths of David Ortiz' home runs lately have been solo shots. Coco Crisp has to be one of the worst leadoff hitters in the league this year.
-
So we're actually gonna get a PPV up on the day it is scheduled?

Don't build a major city in the equivalent of a giant soup bowl and surround it by levees that are rarely maintained? It doesn't matter how many warnings you put out, people are either stupid enough to try and ride a storm out or just unable to leave for whatever reason? Ray Nagin loves the taste of his own foot?

I was just about to bring up the CFL's American expansion. The CFL is looked upon as an inferior league by most American NFL fans, so I doubt a team would get much of a fanbase (Arena Football has a following because it is a vastly different game and plays their season when the NFL is off). On the flip side, the CFL has been around in Canada far longer than the post-merger NFL has been in the US, so those teams have already grown a pretty loyal fanbase, so I don't think an NFL team would be readily accepted.

The Redskins have flat out sucked tonight. They haven't even cracked 100 yards of offense yet and we're in the 4th quarter.
-
It's $39.99. I'm skipping this one. It's basically a two match card and I have the feeling that Bonnar/Griffin II isn't going to be half of what the original was.
-
They had a Futures At Fenway doubleheader today where two of the Red Sox minor league teams played games at Fenway Park. Both games clocked in at around 2:30. If this was Red Sox/Yankees, we'd only be in the 3rd or 4th by that point.

Football doesn't have an arbitration system like baseball has, do they? That would probably go a long way in settling these kinds of disputes, though I'm sure the owners wouldn't go for it.

Seriously, get lives. All of you.

I mean prove it on the open market. If he's worth Reggie Wayne money, there has to be a team that would give up a 1st or 2nd round pick to get him. Branch is a pretty good player, but he'd probably end up like Peerless Price if he goes to another team.
-
Yeah.....I actually went into the CP and did the moves myself. I created this thread like 5 minutes later to explain it. There was no Kennedy Assassination-level conspiracy. Try again.
-
It's rumored that the Patriots have offered him 3 years at $19M, but his agent wants a ridiculous contract like Randle-El and Reggie Wayne got, which isn't something the Patriots are going to do (they didn't do it for Seymour, they didn't overpay to resign Vinatieri, they even didn't do it for Brady). This is the Patriots telling Branch and his agent "So you think you're worth more than what we're offering? Prove it."

Is Deadlocked as much of a departure from the other games as I've heard it is? Is there still a lot of platforming or is it all combat?
-
I haven't gotten anything major either. My view is that if you can't stand a certain poster for whatever minor reason, use the ignore feature. It is there for a reason. If someone is REALLY being an ass in multiple threads, then something else can be done. Also, NHB should pretty much be unmoderated, with the caveat that nothing from there should spread to other parts of the board (hence why GTG was removed). I agree that gimmick posters should go as there are about a handful of people that can actually pull one off. The notion that "This board is dying" is laughable. It isn't what it used to be, but that's just something people will have to get over. The fact that me MOVING A FOLDER causes bitching (and that complaints about the board usually come from the same group of people) should tell you a lot about exactly where the problem lies around here. It isn't just "Oh, mods don't care about this place", it's that some people care a little TOO much about this place.

The funny thing about that play was that he actually just beat the throw and should have been safe. And they say that Beckett didn't have a blister, just a cut on his middle finger.
-
Yeah, I couldn't really find another spot on the show for the empty arena promo, so I put them back to back becuase you could assume that the first promo was taped earlier in the day for it to make sense.
-
Aaaaand NOW the blister problems start for Beckett. The man needs new hands.
