Pink Floyd- The Piper at the Gates of Dawn: The only album that really showcased the things that Syd barrett was capable of before his total breakdown. Aside from the Waters-penned "Take Up Thy Stethoscope and Walk", the songs are wonderfully crafted, showcasing Barrett's blues influences. The Rolling Stones- Exile On Main St.: An album that's a dirty and raw as the band was during the late 60s and early 70s. This album makes me want to go to a dive bar, drink Jack Daniel's all night, snort mountains of cocaine off the breasts of some woman whom I just met, take her home, do my business and throw her to the curb the next morning. KISS- Love Gun: Most people think Destroyer as the best KISS album, but "Great Expectations" and "Flaming Youth" knock the album down several notches for me. Love Gun, from beginning to end (except for "Then She Kissed Me") rocks my fucking socks off.

I also heard that rumour and if they hit either Pittsburgh or Columbus, I'll be there. I'll also be hitting Warped this year to finlly see Dropkick Murphys.

I've heard that before too, but....what the fuck IS he saying then? I believe it's this: Wrapped up like a deuce/ Another runner in the night

Hits matter if you want to make shitloads of money. As far as lyrical prowess and delivery goes, hits don't matter, and no one touches Rakim on those fronts. KRS-One is the same way. He hasn't had a hit in a long time, but he still drops albums and is recognized as one of the greatest and respected by just about everyone in Hip-Hop. You don't need a ton of hits to be great, hell you don't need any. Big L was fucking INSANE on the mic, yet how many hits did he have? None, really. Yet he's still revered in the game, as is The Gift of Gab.

"I Disappear?" That could not have been a good graduation, other than the leaving high school part. -
Damn, this thread title was misleading. For a second, I thought that Rakim had died.

Just give me the Bret DVD and I'll be happy. Or completely pissed, depending on how it's put together.

She seems like the type of girl you can just bring home to mom and dad with her little girl panites and spanking fetish.

The week before graduation, my class had this video yearbook type thing looking back at our years at Joliet Catholic set to the tune of 10,000 Maniacs "These are the Days", which the class before us also used. Then, to be totally unoriginal, our graduation song was "I Will Remember You." I was kind of hoping for Skid Row's "Get the Fuck Out", but I was shot down by my classmates. -
I haven't listened to Sepultura's Roots in about three years or so. I have a UFO greatest hits disc featuring songs like "Rock Bottom", "Too Hot to Handle" and "Lights Out" that I haven't lsitened to in ages. I think it's because I've grown ou of the 0s cock-rock phase. I sould listen to my Traffic album again. "Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys" is too great a song not o listen to.

How You Got Interested In Certain Bands
B. Brian Brunzell replied to Murmuring Beast's topic in Music
Tool: I first heard them on the radio in 1993 while going with my family to Six Flags: Great America up north of Chicago. From the instant I heard that bassline to "Sober", I was hooked. And Maynard's voice was the most unique I had heard. Pink Floyd: My dad got me into them by playing some of Dark Side of the Moon. I had heard some tracks on the radio, mostly stuff from The Wall, but when I heard "Speake to Me/ Breathe", I was floored. At around 15 or 16, my buddy Tim introduced me to the Syd Barrett material, and my love of The Floyd really took off. Devin Townsend: Also thanks to Tim. I was big into metal, listening to Pantera, Sepultura, Fear Factory, etc. when he popped No Sleep 'til Bedtime in my truck's cd player. The "Down, down, down" chanting at the beginning of "Velvet Kevorkian" seemed a bit odd, but he told me to just wait, then "All Hail the New Flesh" punched me in the face. I quickly became a fan, and now own just about all of Devin's material. The Clash: "Train in Vain" was played all the time on Chicago radio, so I decided to buy London Calling once I found out that it contained "Train in Vain." Social Distortion: I remember seeing the video for "Bad Luck", I think it was, on Alternative Nation or 120 Minutes back in the early 90s. Mike Ness had sch a cool and badass look to him, and his snarling, raspy voice pretty much said "This is what Punk should sound like." By the time White Light, White Heat, White Trash came out and "I was Wrong" was all over the radio, all my friends understood my love. Run-DMC, Public Enemy, Rakim and other old-school rap: I have MTV and Yo! MTV Raps to thank. Living in rural Ohio in the foothills of the Appalachians as a child, if the radio was on, it was either top 40 stuff or country. I found MTV, and they were playing rap music quite a bit after Run-DMC broke big. I liked it alot, and most of the people calling it "garbage" and "stupid nigger music" only made me want to listen to it more. -
I also bought a Kaada and Mike Patton album that is definitely one of the strangest albums I've ever heard. But it's Patton, so it's all good.

As long as the new DMC is better than the second game, I'll be happy.

I can't stop listening to Interpol lately. I finally bought Turn On the Bright Lights and have listened to it several times, yet I can't seem to understand why it was universally praised as superior to Antics. The music is great, as are the lyrics, but the vocals, I think, are awful and really bring the album down.

Stop trying to be clever. But he's right. Perhaps, but he doesn't need to be so vague to the point where it must be asked step by step as to WHY he feels that way, especially when I doubt he should have taken B Brian as literally as he did. I'm sure he meant music industry when he said it. I did mean the industry, and IDRM probably knew that as was giving me shit.

Wow, Kidz Bop singing Kylie, Ashlee and Modest Mouse. What the fuck is wrong with music today?
