  1. I'm glad I move back to college next week so I can start watching SD! again. That Benoit segment and Orlando taking all three finishers from the faces sounds kick ass.
  2. I guess they cleared waivers
  3. Great show, I think this one is the best so far in terms of structure and keeping a good pace throughout. I love the idea of a Smart Marks Hall of Fame and would gladly vote for it. It'd be interesting to see what the collective minds on these boards think about who would belong in, who wouldn't, etc. Looking forward to more hopefully in the weeks to come!
  4. Yea, Luger-Yokozuna from SummerSlam 1993 is a surprising match in terms of quality. I think the rating of the **1/2-*** range is mostly due, though, to the booking of the match (Luger fighting off interference from Fuji, kicking out of a Yoko legdrop, and kicking out after being hit with a wooden bucket), the crowd being red hot, and the great commentary by Vince McMahon and Bobby Heenan (yea, you read that one right). However, I still hate watching that entire show b/c Luger SHOULD have gone over there. Scott Keith makes the arguement that Luger still wasn't as over as he should've been to carry the belt so they kept it on Yokozuna, but after that finish it lent credibility to the fact that Luger was a "choker" in big match situations. I think WrestleMania X was his death knell for me as far as being a contender was concerned as well.
  5. Yea, Robertson went a little crazy with this comment and I don't agree with him on this, even though I'm not a big Hugo Chavez fan myself. Mr. Chavez is just a pain in the neck for the State Department b/c of his nationalization of energy resources in Venezuela, his ties with Cuba (exchanging energy w/Castro for health care services), and his put down of democracy in Latin America. Colombia, our major ally in the war on drugs, sees Venezuela as helping out the FARC in Colombia's 30+ year civil war and claims that Mr. Chavez is trying to bring down their government so he can spread his socialist "Bolivarian Revolution" throughout South America. Chavez is a very polarizing figure in his own country. A recall referendum in 2003 (or maybe 2004) failed to get him ousted from power and a coup attempt against him years ago before the referendum also failed. His support mostly comes from the poor class in Venezuela because he uses the nationalized oil profits to pay for education, health care, etc. The only problem with this policy, though, is that if oil prices go down (which, thankfully for Mr. Chavez they haven't) Mr. Chavez is going to be f**ked when it comes to balancing his budget. With all of that said, though, assassination isn't an option. To assassinate a leader there has to be a brightline between what is or isn't needed and simply going out and killing leaders because of their political views (what we did in the Cold War) is a bad standard. I can understand killing a leader we are at war with (ex. Adolf Hitler in WW2), but if it's simply a conflict of political ideas then it's out of line. However, Mr. Robertson is just expressing his opinion and he's not in a position to influence anyone towards a particular course of action. I just wish criticism like this would be leveled against other groups who call for President Bush to be assassinated abroad and things, but it's not like Mr. Robertson has anything to lose here.
  6. I loved both the SummerSlam '98 ladder match (b/c I was a mark at the time and hated the Rock) and when I became a smark the Iron Man match had a lot of innovative spots. I was worried they'd go the boring 0-0 tie like Bret-Shawn @ WM 12, but it was a great match (save for the cruddy finish w/UT) with a lot of crazy moments (HHH winning a fall with a sleeper, Rock getting a DQ fall after being hit w/a chair by HHH, and then HHH getting a pinfall after hitting the Rock with the chair).
  7. The match against Bam Bam Bigelow from Barcelona is on the Global Warfare 1993 WWF home video, which I have. It's a pretty good match (I rate it at ***1/2), but it's a carbon copy of their KOTR '93 match minus the interference from Luna Vachon and the rematch. In fact, I liked the KOTR '93 match better.
  8. Hillary doesn't CONNECT with people like Bill did. Therefore, the Dems are going to hit the same roadblock they hit with Gore and Kerry of not being able to make the American people believe they care about them. Hillary doesn't have the charisma Bill does either. In other words, Bill was like JFK while Hillary is like a version of Richard Nixon (Nixon even said as much when he visited the White House upon invitation shortly before his death). Also, Hillary can't criticize without sounding mean or vindictive either (b/c she's not her husband), just listen to some of her speeches @ rallies and the like. Thus, meanness will tend to cancel itself out. Furthermore, Hillary will have the "Howard Dean syndrome" in the primaries if she runs b/c everyone will know that she is the top dog and will gang up on her collectively to eliminate her from the race. Also, if your the top dog during the early stages you get more media attention, which can open the door for small things to be blown out of proportion and make you look bad. If the Democrats want to win they need to go to the South in some form and a Mark Warner/Joe Biden team might not be a bad place to start. Hillary won't win a SINGLE southern state (she won't win Arkansas b/c they didn't like her when she was first lady down there even though they loved Bill) and will have to depend on winning Ohio, which may be complicated in a general election depending on turnout. I think if Gore doesn't run (which people have argued well that he won't) a big challenge could come from Bill Richardson. I was skeptical on this guy when he was head of the Dept. of Energy, but he did a good job @ the UN and has the proven track record that he can lead. Hell, he's one of the few people who's noticing the crisis on our border and I give him major props for that. The Democrats have a BIG chance to win my vote in 2008, but if they nominate Hillary or another far left-winger they'll blow it much like they did this last time around, which will be unfortunate.
  9. Is it possible to download this PPV on any other site except PW Torrents?
  10. Biggest thing to happen in years and one of the most anticipated returns in the history of professional wrestling.....UNTIL the good ol' WWE writers led by Mrs. HHH mess it up.
  11. To anyone who's interested: Come join my college pick'em league now in it's second year! The Xtreme College Football League (XCFL) had a great year last year with twelve teams competing fiercly to be declared league champion. Here are some of the features of this years league: *A weekly "top 25" poll that will rank the teams in the league based on performance. ALL MEMBERS of the league can vote, so make your voice heard! *A playoff system at the end of the year, probably splitting the league into two brackets, one for 'winners' (top part) and one for 'unfortunates' (bottom part). The winners will play for a 'national championship' while the unfortunates will play for a 'consolation championship' to heal their wounds from a brutal season. *Unique matchups and storylines throughout the year. You will never play a team twice if the maximum numbers of team in the league is met in the regular season. Also, each game after the several weeks of the season will have a brief description of what is on the line. To join here is the info: Group ID#: 10118 Password: ncaa Hope to see you there!
  12. I loved JR's indignent expression @ the Al Snow/Head vs. Too Much match from KOTR '98. He gets all crazy over the "Head & Shoulders" being used for the pin and then when the match finished was like "Well ladies and gentlemen that's probably the last we'll see of that....piece of...business."
  13. Wasn't Eddie/Angle the one where they kept throwing a chair back and forth to each other before the referee could get up so they wouldn't get DQ'd and then Eddie just fell down (acting unconscious) and the referee saw Angle with the chair and proceeded to berate him? I LOVED that spot, one of the more comedic/innovative ones I've seen in some time.
  14. Am I crazy for thinking Martel should've been booked as the runner-up @ the 1991 Royal Rumble to Hogan? I'm not denying the fact that Hogan should've won that Rumble (b/c there was no other way for it to go w/Slaughter having won the belt from Warrior), but Martel got INCREDIBLE heat for most of that match that the WWE promptly killed with his 'blindfold match' with Jake Roberts. I think the final four should've been Bulldog, Earthquake, Hogan, and Martel (instead of Brian Knobbs, like WTF?!?!) and then have Earthquake/Martel eliminate Bulldog, Hogan rally against Martel/Earthquake and dump Earthquake, and then duke it out with Martel for the win. I believe this could've lent Martel some credibility. Sorry, I'm just a bit of a Martel fan and was wondering what others think. I always thought he should've gotten @ least one reign as IC champ.
  15. Just got done watching a USWA compilation of shows in March 1995 and it brought back some fond memories. I remember watching the USWA syndicated TV show from like June 1995 to its eventual demise in 1997. Why did it go under? Back in the day I loved Saturdays because of all of the wrestling action that was on TV here in KY. WCW Worldwide was on @ 3, Smokey Mountain @ 4, USWA @ 5, and WCW Saturday Night @ 6-8. Good times.
  16. Thanks for making my day man, I owe you one.
  17. Yea, these are going to be some of the closest races for the Wild Card in recent history with more than three teams in both the AL and NL with plausible chances at winning it. Anyone think that if Bonds returns the Giants could stage a late September rally and win the NL Worst? Better yet, if the Padres hang on and win with a sub-500 record and somehow WON the World Series, would there be a cry for MLB to revamp the way the playoffs are done?
  18. May seem like a stupid question (and sorry if it is) but does NHL have a program similar to MLB TV where you can watch games online? Just wondering, thanks.
  19. Maybe you could have an "up and down" segment where you have like five things that have gone well in a particular week and five that have gone bad in the same week in professional wrestling.
  20. This is pretty cool. To me Sunny was the beginning of the "WWE Diva" stage and I really liked her as a heel manager. Isn't she the only manager in WWE history to manage three consecutive teams to the tag team championships? If she gets back in shape and loses the weight that she let herself go on, I'd have no problem with her returning. Hell, she'd do a much better job than these Diva bimbos they are hiring left and right.
  21. Crap, I don't get OLN where I live. I guess I'll just have NBC as my only hockey outlet. AHH!
  22. I definitely agree. Well said.
  23. Okay, I get the fact that this grieving woman is sad about the loss of her sun, but when she starts turning into an Anti-Semite and calls the President "the biggest terrorist in the world" it's no wonder people stop listening to her. However, I don't really think she's that big of a negative on the GOP or Bush because people know her arguements for a full withdrawal aren't going to happen (nor are plausible) and her ridiculous comments about Iraq being invaded for "oil" and for Jews only decreases her credibility. It's great to know this is what the left feels about fighting terrorism.
  24. I'm a little afraid to predict how this SummerSlam is going to turn out since my predictions for Great American Bash ended up entirely wrong as WWE pulled a huge swerve in the booking of a lot of matches (i.e. Eddie-Rey, Jordan-Benoit, etc.). However, I'll give it a shot: Hulk Hogan vs. Shawn Michaels - This is about the only match that has me interested entering this pay-per-view and that's just for the finish. When looking @ this entire card I agree with an above poster than all the other matches are 'filler' material while this has been hyped as the ONLY match to care about. I don't see how Hogan DOESN'T win here considering that HBK has gotten better of him this entire feud so far: the superkick on 7/4, the Larry King parody (which was something I'll remember for a LONG time), this past Monday with the Sharpshooter, and some nice interviews. The only way I see HBK winning here is by some sort of screwy finish so Hogan retains some credibility to work other programs/keep his TV show strong (gotta hype Brooke, remember!). Also, if the HHH-Hogan rumors are true then we gotta keep Hogan strong so HHH can get his job back from Unforgiven several years ago (lol). I'd love to see HBK nail Hogan with Sweet Chin Music a second time when he starts to hulk up simply b/c no heel has ever tried that. However, I don't see that happening. WINNER: "The Immortal" Hulk Hogan WWE Champion John Cena © vs. Chris Jericho - HAHA, like this match isn't predictable. Maybe reading these forums has made me cynical, but the build to this match has been lackluster. It's like McMahon-Austin watered down to the point of adding six cans of water instead of three into a pitcher of lemonade. Someone needs to pull a Lloyd Benson and tell Eric Bischoff "Mr. Bischoff I knew Vince McMahon and your no Vince McMahon." Cena always does better when he has to "chase" the heel and that's how this program has been booked. HOWEVER, why am I supposed to buy Jericho as a credible challenger when he hasn't won a regular match in the buildup to this show AND Cena was strong enough to beat both he & Carlito last week in a handicap match WITH Bischoff at ringside! WINNER AND STILL WWE Champion: John Cena (who's really from the suburbs) No Holds Barred World Champion Batista vs. JBL - I know people claim JBL is stale and from the few times I get to see Smackdown! I tend to agree. However, he's the only person they could've put into this situation considering the Hassan debacle. JBL would be a more effective character away from the main event scene and feuding with Benoit over the US Title and hopefully, we'll get to see that program soon (or possibly a Benoit-Regal/JBL program). After last month's terrible contest @ the GAB I'm glad we have the No Holds Barred stipulation. I don't see why they'd give Batista three straight wins over HHH only to have him drop the strap to JBL here. Nevertheless, McMahon was evidently pissed at Batista for the match @ GAB and since Hassan was supposed to go over here in Batista's HOMETOWN nothing is ever a certainty. A loss here, though, would severely hurt Batista and I don't see McMahon doing it to him. Hopefully, Brock makes his return and F5's the hell out of Batista while Michael Cole sounds like a little girl screaming "NOT THIS WAY!!!" WINNER AND STILL World Champion: Batista Matt Hardy vs. Edge - Does anyone care about this program anymore? Started off fantastic with Hardy's first appearance, but that handshake with Vinny Mac was just...so...wrong. Edge clearly won the promo battle in my opinion between the two to set up this show (with his work two weeks ago surprising the hell out of me) and having Hardy already wrestle on RAW two weeks ago against Snitsky was rather pointless without a storyline. I agree with a poster who several weeks ago stated THIS should be a No Holds Barred Match, start off the show, and have them fight all over the place to build to a future show. Whether this program still has legs will depend on the finish, but I see Hardy winning here by DQ leading to a gimmick match with Edge at a later date to blow this thing off (which Edge should probably win). WINNER: Matt Hardy Undertaker vs. Randy Orton - I like Orton as a heel simply b/c he looks so arrogant and like such a prick I can't help but HATE the guy. He sucks as a face, but I love him as a heel for that reason. I think this one is a formality to put Orton over to build to an Orton-Batista program that will set up Batista-Brock for somewhere down the road. Undertaker won @ WM to keep his streak alive (something I agreed with b/c UT should NEVER lose @ WM nowadays) and doesn't have any reason to go over here. He can recover from a loss and I think will gladly lay down for Orton here. WINNER: Randy Orton No Time Limit Eugene vs. Kurt Angle - I hate Christy Hemme so since she's Eugene's new cheerleader I hate him by de facto now. Sadly, I think this has been one of the better built up programs (that hasn't gotten ridiculous or a parody of its former self) for this show. Simple storyline that any idiot can understand: Eugene has something that belongs to Angle and Angle wants it back. I heard reports that these two have been busting out some good matches on house shows, so I'm not angry about this being booked and am actually looking forward to it. Angle has to win here to get his medals back and get ready for his 'turn' against Cena. I hope he makes Christy tap out too after the match. WINNER: Kurt Angle to get his medals back Ladder Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero - I don't see how they think this program can sell when Mysterio gets all of the victories and Guerrero is made to look like a pansy time and time again. The HEEL is the one who is supposed to beat the face down in the ring, not the other way around. Guerrero DESPERATELY needs to get a win here, especially if they are building him up for a program with Batista down the road, but with the 'custody paper' stipulation I don't think Guerrero will win here either. Thus, we'll end the feud with a TON of Mysterio victories versus ZERO for Guerrero. As Carlito would say, "dats not cool." I find this program sickening because of the storyline and because of the wins-losses difference. I think this is the first time I've never even cared about a ladder match on pay-per-view, which is rather sad and shows Rey Mysterio should never be allowed to book his own program again. WINNER: Rey Mysterio to get custody (unfortunately) US Champion Orlando Jordan vs. Chris Benoit - I hate Orlando Jordan and his reign as US Champion needs to be ended QUICKLY on this show. Of course, Benoit should've gone over @ GAB, but I guess they had to delay a JBL-Benoit program because of the Hassan debacle. Benoit should win and have a nice, moderately long reign to restore credibility to the US Championship. In fact, they could have him wrestle practically ANYONE who wanted a shot at the belt to make him a 'fighting champion' like the WWE did to Bret Hart with both his IC & World title reigns. If it's the opener, this match could serve to tell us where the show is headed because if Jordan goes over again we could be in for a long night. WINNER AND NEW US Champion: Chris Benoit ------- My Analysis: I feel underwhelmed for this upcoming SummerSlam because all of the hype is on HBK-Hogan and everyone else is treated as second fodder garbage. All of the Smackdown! matches are rematches and the RAW side of the card isn't much better because of the lackluster Cena-Jericho program and the bad turns the Edge-Matt Hardy feud has taken. Some of these predictions could be wrong b/c I only have two heels going over (Angle and Orton), which means we could see an Edge win by DQ when Hardy goes apeshit crazy and/or Guerrero finally (!?!?!) win against Mysterio in the ladder match. Then again, if your going to have blowoffs to some major programs it'd make sense to have the faces go over en masse, but this isn't WrestleMania.
  25. I like Vijay's chances if his putting gets hot. He contended @ Pinehurst in the US Open back in 1999 when Stewart beat Mickelson. He also finished right behind Ben Curtis when he won the British Open in 2003. Singh's ball striking is some of the best on the PGA Tour and right now he leads by World Golf Rankings by 95 points over Woods b/c he is a consistent finisher (although Tiger is gaining ground from his two major wins and consistent second places finishes too). Anyway, Singh was always told that he couldn't win the Masters b/c his putting was terrible, but he proved all of those detractors wrong in 2000 to win the Masters over David Duval (what'd happened to that guy? Pretty sad). All it takes for Singh to win a tournament is his putting to come on line. He can get it to the greens, but he has to 'finish' if he wants more majors outside of those PGA's and a green jacket. Mickelson's chances are about 50%, but he's hardly ever done well in the British Open (last year was the exception). Then again, if Mickelson had a few more putts fall last year he could've won the Grand Slam. It's just how things happen.
