I'd put 'God Only Knows' on there, along with maybe 'Surfin USA', an earlier Beach Boys song For the Beatles, I'd have Strawberry Fields Forever and maybe Please Please Me to give a good balance.

Anything off the Beach Boys Love You Album. Ditto Brian Wilson 1988. Anything with bizarre synth gives that vibe.

It must be a small-town thing, but I've never been in many 'local' independant music stores. I always go to the smaller chains over the likes of HMV or Virgin unless absolutely necessary. But they are still the same in that they sell the same stuff, with the same layout, etc.
