Will Chappelle's Show go the way of the dodo?
bob_barron replied to syxx2001's topic in Television & Film
The Parent Hood was about as urban as Friends -
Austin wasn't jobbed out to Savio- except for the strap match it seems like he got the upper hand in their feud much mire then he did. He even was the first guy he beat with the stunner.
-
Why? RRR can sometimes be a dick and I disagree with him more often then not, but like it or not he can back up his points to a degree which makes him better then most posters of this folder. I'm surprised he still watches and follows. WWE though
-
I'm not a huge Jason Kidd fan myself (a lot of times he has off nights from the field) but after seeing what the Nets were like without him this year, I know they need him badly and he helps win a lot of games. And even though I hated Vince with a passion ever since I moved to Toronto, now that he's dominating on the Nets, I cannot hate him
-
Phil Hartman's death really affected me. He was one of my favourite SNL castmembers and his death (especially right after Farley's) really upset me. Bulldog's death was horrible. I was depressed for a while afterwards and that week in public speaking we had to eulogies so as tribute I improvised a 7 minute eulogy. I was also very upset when Perfect and John Ritter died but I got over it quickly
-
I don't think there's anyone in the country wanting New Jersey to get in. What an unlikable team. I am- I love the Nets. How can you hate a team with two Yugoslavians?
-
I LOVE Planinic. Before they got Vince and Vince became VINSANITY!~ he was my favourite player on the Nets. He has his off nights (I think being shunted down the depth chart for a bit hurt him) but the guy is a consistent shooter, plays good defence and is really fast. I don't like Scalabrine. I mean he was cool when he was the goofy red head guy who sat on the bench and didn't do anything but now that he plays- eh. He had a good game last night but he takes too many threes and misses a lot of shots. Carter-Kidd-Jefferson-Kristic-Collins I think is a really good starting 5. They also have a pretty good bench with Vaughn, Best, Planinic. They just need to upgrade their forward and centre bench. Oh and I hate Rodney Buford
-
Well except for me Ripper. Don't forget about Kristic- he's really stepped up his game in the past few months and has been averaging double figures. He just needs to step up his free throw shooting and stop getting so many fouls.

How would WWE react in the event of a tragedy?
bob_barron replied to Dimensions's topic in The WWE Folder
The referees probably stopped the match because the wrestler said they could not continue. I know what wrestling was formed out of but I would've hoped that in 1999, a wrestling promoter would have enough fucking semblance to stop a show after a guy plummeted 78 feet to his death. Sometimes there are more important things in life then the blowoff to Triple H v. The Rock. Regarding the hockey argument- I still think it's different then what happened to Owen and it sounds like they should've stopped the game as well. Nothing I said was Martha Hart's opinion. Everything I said was based on fact that is included in her book to tell the reader everything that happened to Owen on May 23, 1999. Are there any of the claims I posted that you want to refute, because otherwise taking cheapshots at Martha Hart is irrelevant. -

And using carny mentality as your argument makes sense 'how'? Owen died in 1999, not 1904 -

Not in the slightest. And I gave you 4 instances off the top of my head where matches have been stopped. When you invoke kayfabe and carny morality into an argument you are in no position to criticise other arguments. He didn't die nor suffer anything as horrific as Owen. -

The umpire just collapsed and happened to die. Owen Hart fell 78 feet to his death. Your comparison again makes no sense. 8 minutes into Owen's fall there was no signs of medical progress. When Owen was in the ambulance he was already clinically dead. He made it to the hospital about 20 minutes later and there was next to no hope he was still alive. The minute Owen fell and it was obvious things were very very wrong, the show should've been called off. You don't understand the situation. Read Broken Harts and then get back to me on Owen possibly surviving. Anyone who would've sued the WWF over the show being cancelled and Owen not dying would've been laughed out of court. Yes because in the long term: The WWF was made to look like a complete joke, a corporation with no class that does not give a fuck about its employees. At the moment when the WWF was being criticised left and right for their content- showing no class and continuing a show like nothing happened after one of their wrestlers just died, really helped their detractors. Wrestling was once again shown to be a scummy business filled with lowlifes who don't bat an eye when one of their own dies. Go up to Martha Hart and explain to her about kayfabe and why they should've continued the show. I'm sure she'd love your reasoning. -

What was the benefit of stopping the baseball game where the ump died? It's called having common decency and respect for the gravity of the situation took place. -

Most wrestling injuries don't involve someone plummeting to their death. Read Martha Hart's book. There really was no chance Owen might recover. While he wasn't officially dead- he was not responding to anything doctors were doing. The thought of him recovering was pretty laughable. -

You're the one who is comparing an actor flubbing his lines to what happened to Owen. I'm all for keeping kayfabe but a guy fell to his death. That's what you don't seem to get. All your examples would be nice if we were arguing about something other then a guy plummeting to his death. I think if the fans found out Owen Hart was dead- they'd probably be sad. I'm not arguing that. A guy getting hurt is not the same as Owen Hart dying. Chris Marvel v. Paul London JR Ryder v. Chavo Guerrero Eddy Guerrero v. Chris Jericho Benoit v. Sabu 4 matches off the top of my head that were stopped due to injury. I don't care. A man plummeting to his death and dying the way Owen should cause the show to be stopped immediately. You stop the show- let the wrestlers reflect on their colleague instead of going out there and trying to work a crowd in the pain they were in. HTQ refuted that. -
Fair enough and I'm not defending him (even though he fast became my favourite Net) but I wouldn't want to play for the Raptors and Sam Mitchell either. And yea- Vince's antics in Toronto were pretty horrible. Can't say I'm complaining anymore with him jacking up 30 every night
-
Vince Carter is anything but underwhelming? Yeesh. -=Mike ...He's one of bigger duds out there. "The next Jordan"? Yeah... I wouldn't call Vince a dud Mike. He had a couple rough years after peaking with the Raptors but he's found his career again with the Nets. (Yes I'm biased)
-
Not really- not many rookies score as many points and get as many board as he does.
-
He's one of the leading candidates for ROY and probably the reason why Charlotte didn't break the 76ers for futility. Still not underwhelming.

It's been a while, but worth another go.
