It's not a total WWE revisionist piece, but it definitely stresses and leans on certain points. For example when they talk about what happened at Survivor Series 97, if you didn't know the inside story you'd have no idea what they were talking about. They show the end of the match and the narrator says something like "when Vince Macmahon decided to end the match early..." They do include Mick Foley saying that Vince definitely screwed Bret, and Bret didn't screw Bret though. The main feature is abour an hour and 35 minutes or so, and there are about 80-some minutes of extras. I've just watched one or two so far, the coolest being Jim Cornette's rant about the state of wrestling. "Yes, Hulk Hogan, you're a household name, but so is garbage, and you both stink when you get old." It's a really well done, but not perfect. Definitely worth a watch, though.

I know he was called Eduard Chastein, and he's probably a NWA Wildside guy, I'm not 100% sure. He's Iceberg from NWA-Wildside. They called him Edward Chastain in TNA - he was on for about 2-3 shows I think.

True, and WWE doesn't have the WCW problem of "every show being the same" like Eddy Guerrero said. That said, they even said that the competition brought out the best in the WWF/WWE product...well...what about now?
-
And just to add on: The first half hour is all about WCW and the beginnings of Nitro, Luger coming on the first show, Hall and Nash, and the Hogan heel turn. The next 20-25 minutes are all about RAW - we see a quick clip of the Austin/Hart WM13 match and people starting to rally behind Austin. They don't really show much of WWF from 95-97, and really start with the Austin/Tyson stuff of early 98. They then talk about the back and forth wars (Bischoff's challenge to Vince, DX going to Atlanta, Foley winning the title, Goldberg beating Hogan, etc), and then quickly mention Bischoff losing his job and Russo and Ferrara coming in. They show Ferrara's "Oklahoma" impression of JR and show a quick clip of Russo talking about bullshit politics at Bash at the Beach 2000. They talk about the decline of WCW, and then the final Nitro. Those are the basics of the main program. Wish they had put on more extras!!!

Just watched the Monday Night Wars DVD. Haven't watched the extras yet. Really well done, interesting stuff. It wasn't slanted as badly as I thought it was, and you get some really interesting, honest, heartfelt comments. It still does have a WWE slant to it though in some aspects: For example, Vince Russo, a guy who doesn't work for WWE _now_, really gets shit on. I found it interesting that they only mention Russo twice, with Flair talking about how much of a joke he is. Some really interesting stuff on here though. Flair talks about his _hate_ for Bischoff. They talk about the stuff from the Foley book with him winning the title. You hear from Eddy Guerrero how boring WCW shows got because it was always all about the nWo. A lot of real feeling from guys like Jericho, Eddy, Benoit, Flair. Cool stuff. The really scary thing is the parallel to today that they don't even realize! JR goes off about how WCW kept the same guys at the top without elevating talent. They talk about how the WWE was elevating guys like Edge, Christian, and the Hardys. While the WWE isn't as bad now as WCW was (as they're elevating guys like Orton, Cena, Eddy, etc), there are a lot of similarities. They talk about how Steve Austin didn't get a chance in WCW because no one wanted to give up their top spot - it's really interesting that they can see all these faults in WCW, but none in their current product. An interesting DVD - worth checking out.

I just got it today, too, from High Spots for 18.63 plus 4.50 shipping. You can get it at Bestbuy.com or Circuitcity.com for 19.99 with free shipping, too. Can't wait to watch it - I'll put up a review as soon as I do!

Worst catch phrase ever: Rock: Pour yourself some SHUT UP JUICE!
-
What a horribly run company. No surprise here.
-
Good read. When did Kelly leave the WWE?
-
Look at the WWF a few years ago..._everyone_ had a catch phrase. Austin: Several Rock: Tons Road Dogg: His prematch thing Godfather: His prematch thing Big Show: "And that's the last word!" X-Pac: "Your ass is grass and we're gonna smoke it" Angle: "It's true, it's true" HHH: "I am that damn good" Jericho: Several Foley: Several Etc, etc. Now look today. Jericho still has some (his "sanctimonious S.O.B thing"), Austin occasionally busts out "And that's the bottom line...", Cena has some catch phrases which have caught on. But there's a definite drop there. Was it just that in you were expected to have one back in the Russo days? What do you think happened, or am I just crazy for recognizing this?

I really don't have a problem with this...he's a good on air character when he's not booking himself as a tough guy.
-
I still don't get the whole "fingerpoke" storyline, since I wasn't following WCW at the time. Why "in character" would Nash do that, and why "out of character" would they book that?
-
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Dammit, should have caught that. Then Hogan had the whole knee inury thing at Stampede 99, and came back to take the title off Savage later. Thanks!
-
Nothing is "blockbuster" enough because of how the show has been written for the past year. Trying to come up with a blockbuster match at the last second shouldn't be neccesary, because with a little bit of planning and foresight, building to a huge match at WM between two of the most over characters on the roster shouldn't be a problem.
-
What the hell was up with this match? It's a first blood cage match, and Flair does a huge blade job and is bleeding all over the place, and then beats Hogan by pinfall later on. Was this just a blunder on WCW's part calling it a first blood match? What happened?
-
For some reason, the Van Hammer / Kaz Hayashi tag team made me laugh.
-
Why? LOL, hey now, they're aren't a lot of reviews out there!
-
They let KAMA pin Taker? ... Seems a little weird to me!
-
And why did Regal leave? It's not like he was the only one who had to have shitty matches with Goldberg.
-
Arn Anderson beat Hulk Hogan???
-
I've never seen any of the WCW WW3 shows. Are any of the shows good? Are any of the actual WW3's watchable, or are they all just a big mess?
-
Oh yeah, I've seen that show! No Hogan + Ohtani = Good show.
-
What do you think is WCW's best overall show from Bash at the Beach 94, where Hogan debuted, to Great American Bash 96, the PPV before the debut of the nWo? I know they ran some stupid angles back then...but there have to be SOME good shows, right?
-
I was reading Keith's rant on it today, and he wondered if the finish was botched. It's a 30 minute match with a run-in DQ finish. Anyone know what's up with that?
-
Jindrak/Cade win it. Huh.
