That Fidrych game is a real treat.

No, for two reasons. One, it wasn't exposing at all. Only when Bob Zmuda's book on Andy Kaufman came out did anyone admit to it being fixed, and it had quite a few people guessing up until then. Second, wrestling has been "exposed" all the way back in the 1920s or '30s. That's not true. It was admitted to being a work in a 1995 documentary on Andy Kaufman. I'll grant that. The original point basically stands, being that it was kept under wraps for 13 years.

And it's not like the Mountie was some schlub they found and put in a costume. Jacques Rougeau ended up competing at seven Wrestlemanias. And Krry Von Erich I can definitely buy. He is one of wrestling's all time greatest fuckups. In an alternate universe, he'd be WWF Champion while David Von Erich held the NWA strap.

I think Naiwf is upset that the Mets weren't in on it. I wonder what the heck the O's are thinking. What's the point of locking up a second baseman in his 30s long term on that club? Trade him for prospects.

I bet once they study his brain, it'll look like that of an 80 year old Alzheimer patient. This is the only one that was amusing. The rest of you are just sad. -

Miller is hardly a clueless idiot. Allowing players to be drug tested anonymously has now ruined several reputations as the government leaked private tests. Miller would have handled the situation far more adroitly. McMahon was indicted on the charge of actually distributing steroids. Apples and oranges. Considering every single sport around the world has a problem with PEDs, I hardly think the problem can be laid at the feet of Selig, or any one person. -
120/120, got Booker T with about 22 seconds left. D'Lo Brown also almost slipped past me. I can see spoiler tagging the KOTR and WWE champions guesses? The IC champs though? I figure anyone who reads this thread should know that a bunch of IC champions will get name-dropped.

On a serious note, it sounds like the facility potentially has a bigger problem on their hands. The police were contacted by an elderly rights group? -
Regis Philbin had Fred Blassie on his program in San Diego all the time when he was breaking into television.

Oddly enough, I just watched Benoit's dvd today. It honestly doesn't come to me as more than an afterthought. But then again, I never thought of him as more than a wrestler anyway. -
Let me defend my picks for the benefit of VX. Skipping over Rodriguez, who was on my team before I joined. 2. Abreu- fairly obvious here. 20/20 guy and thankfully outfield defense doesn't count. 3. Matt Cain- Twice top ten in strikeouts, he is good enough now to deserve a pick. Established pitcher who deserves better run support. 4. Jarrod Saltalamacchia- I think I overranked Salty here. I was under time constraints and was in a rush having just picked up the team. He probably sticks in my mind because I saw him manage a 7 RBI game in person. 5. Michael Young- Veteran. I get to use him at SS all year. 6. Cameron Maybin- A real upside pick. He should contribute this year though, and has 30/30 potential. Even if he goes 15/15, there are not many outfielders left on the board with that type of ability. 7. Jonathan Sanchez- 5.18 career ERA? Peripherals do not match his ERA at all. I picked him because I think he'll perform THIS season. 8. Fausto Carmona- If he recovers his prior form, a Cy Young candidate. 9. Heath Bell- I'm questioning going for saves in this league. Might regret this pick. Bottom line is that there is not much to go on. This is a 20 team, 6 keeper league. That's 120 players. Now at any given time there are 434 starting players in the Majors. Figure that each team has two or so open or unsettled jobs. That leaves you about 360 players with steady jobs. The top third are gone before we even start.

If a guy can't pitch, any mentoring he does won't help a damn bit. BPro had a great line about Brad Ausmus. The word for that type is coach. Moyer still has something left though. And if Moyer should falter, the Phillies have Carlos Carrasco coming up and a few other options available.

And to answer the query, the only way you can stop high school athletes from using steroids is to test them as well. And are we really at the point where we demand our 15 year old kids piss in a cup as a prerequisite for athletics? -

Baseball records have always been the product of eras. The great pitching numbers come from the 1900s and 1910s, when pitchers could literally soak the baseball before throwing it. The single season HR record pre-Ruth was held by a Chicago Cub who popped fly balls into a lake about 200' away from home plate. Lately I've become convinced that sportswriters are obsessed with baseball's records because they have a complete inability to judge players based on their actual observable ability. They short change well-rounded players and when they use statistics, they pick the wrong ones. So when the validity of the records goes south, so too does their ability to judge players. -

I think it's safe to add BBC America to this list. 18 hours a day of british restaurant and reality shows? Pass. -
I think Arizona wins the NL West. The Dodgers? I missed the effort they made to improve their team. They lost their second baseman and ace starting pitcher. Greg Maddux is gone as well. The Cubs, I'm not going over that one again. I'd be STUNNED if they finished below .500. I mean honestly. I would also be really surprised if either New York team won 100+ games. Especially the Mets. I mean except for a couple relievers, they essentially have the same team.

The Kingdome was a good hitting environment, the Ballpark in Arlington was/is the BEST hitting environment in the American League. And besides that, the Mariners had already moved to the Kingdome in mid '99. -
Hogan/Orndorff and Roberts/Steamboat have aired on dvd. I'm not too fond of Valiant as an announcer. Manager he's middle of the road, his shtick is a bit over the top. Of course Johnny's strength is his tag team work in the '70s.

There aren't even that many good proven veterans left on the board. The ones I come across are unlikely to crack the replacement level of the league. If I come across a good prospect that's likely to contribute this season, I'm biting regardless of what round it is. This is a six player keeper league, I started with one player. I need future stars, plain and simple.
