Terry Funk at that point just could flat out not continue. Shawn Michaels vs. Mankind, Mind Games. Not so much for the DQ. It took Vader so long to get to the ring that Michaels had to stall before covering, the ref stalled before counting, and Michaels left a sure three count to hit Vader when he reached the apron.

XM Radio is airing Game 6 of the 1999 NLCS. Holy crap what a game that was. I dare say that series was the best postseason series in the last 20 years.
-
What the heck would the Yankees give up for Sheets? In this scenario the player would go to the Devil Rays, and why would the Yankees throw a good player to a division rival? This is a made-up trade rumor.

I wouldn't quite call it Wrestlecrap, just a good comedy match. George seemed to wrestle that style quite often.

True, but what about the animosity towards Aaron Boone in the way animosity still exists for Bucky Dent. And I assume you have hatred for Joe Carter as well. I don't hate Joe Carter. My feelings toward the 1993 World Series is that the Phillies put together a great run but fell short against a superior team. If the Phillies had won game six they would likely have lost game seven.

Wow, you really are a Democrat. Just sayin'. Your common minor league team has a TON of crap during the season. The tradeoff is you have some company's logo on the item. Personally, I was more miffed at the loss of soft-serve ice cream at the concessions. -
I learned not to sweat pure dollar amounts. With the amount of money baseball rakes in, they can certainly afford it. Besides, it's not my money.

There's no real pain involved in that home run for me. It just came up in a conversation and I thought it was cool enough to share. The Aaron Boone home run is part of the Red Sox narrative, circa 2003-04. After Mitch Williams the vilification of goats ended, at least as far as performance. Mental gaffs are still fair game. Tim Wakefield wasn't the goat in that game anyway. The real Red Sox pain comes from the eighth inning.

Mitch Williams was the single wildest pitcher who ever had a real career. He walked over seven batters per nine innings, and somehow compiled a 3.65 career ERA. Romero has nine years of MLB pitching under his belt with poor walk totals. He gets away with it because he is extremely effective against left-handers and rarely allows home runs. As I noted before in this thread, he has a 3.65 ERA in 402 career relief appearances. Yes, the BABIP was out of context. But so was his walk rate (it's usually not that high). Among lefty relievers, only Scott Eyre stands out in the free agent market. I'll take my chances with Romero for a year or two and maybe Mike Zagurski, Fabio Castro or even Josh Outman can come up and fill the role.

Maybe, but remember the Braves played in Boston in those years.

Mitch Williams' walk-off home runs, besides THAT one. http://www.baseball-reference.com/pi/shareit/nNVm" target="_blank">http://www.baseball-reference.com/pi/shareit/nNVm The Bill James Handbook review is in my blog, btw.

If you can't get them together at a Braves game how are you going to assemble them for a rain dance?

$12 Million over three years? I can definitely live with that. The spirit of Mitch Williams is strong in this one.

I don't really see $1600 for a TV and another $200 for a receiver as that big of a deal to watch amazing looking television. It's about spending money on what you like. Spending $1800 on ANYTHING is a big deal. I'll upgrade when HDTVs are roughly the same price as regular tvs, and I need a new tv. I have a 19" mono television I got in about 1999, so that shows you how much I value technology in my television watching. Hell, I still often use a commodore 64 monitor to play video games. It's not that new technology isn't an improvement. It's that the cost in this case doesn't add up. If I have $1800 to spend, it goes towards paying off principal on loans. -
I'd be very surprised if they edited Benoit off dvd shows. I think they'll likely leave him off advertising materials and be done with it.

Again there's something wonderful with the whole Yankee fan mindset. "Win at all costs," so you build a team with hired mercenaries. Then feel betrayed when one of those mercenaries leaves for more money. This is nothing fans of the Royals, Orioles, etc. haven't experienced before, only on a larger scale. Most hated ex-Yankee? I honestly can't think of a former Yankee who is truly dispised by the fanbase, outside of Jeff Weaver. It's a shame because Rodriguez hasn't made himself a menace to society or broken any laws. He's just a baseball player.

http://www.wnep.com/Global/story.asp?S=7338739" target="_blank">http://www.wnep.com/Global/story.asp?S=7338739 Thank god Cordaro lost. Him and his Yankee-loving attitude can go fuck themselves. Instead of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons, I now have the Yankees and their corporate interests grubbing every penny, catering to the well heeled and providing no excitement or incentives in return. The Yankees provided NO giveaway items this year. The atmosphere is completely dead, and the ONLY selling point is that these are the AAA Yankees. The history in Lackawanna County is that the commissioners tend to stick their noses in the baseball team for publicity. In this case, Cordaro has negotiated a deal where an outside entity can buy the team. If they do, there is nothing stopping that entity from then moving the team. Which is likely, because Scranton is NOT in a class with Buffalo, Louisville or Columbus as far as cities go. The Lehigh Valley IronPigs open up next season. They may be the lowly Phillies and not the mighty Yankees. But their management provides baseball for the FAN.

Some team is going to be very, very disappointed in Mike Lowell next season. An out-of-context year fueled by big numbers at Fenway Park? And he turns 34 in the offseason? Count me out.

Forgot all about Marmol. I have seen Gagne's name surfacing in Cubs rumors, so take that as you will. If people are wondering why Gagne might get a lot of looks this offseason, look no further than JC Romero asking for a three-year deal or Kyle Farnsworth being considered a hot trade commodity this offseason. Romero has a 3.65 career ERA as a reliever, and he's left handed. Him and Scott Eyre look like the only lefty relievers worth a crap this offseason. Something that occurred to me today. The Phillies lost out to the Marlins in the 2003 wild card hunt. Juan Pierre against the Phillies that year hit .397 with a .471 OBP. That seemed to plant the notion in Ed Wade's head that since Pierre beat them, they needed a player like him to win. They couldn't get Pierre of course, so they spent a full year lusting after his crappier version Endy Chavez until they finally traded Marlon Byrd to get him. Now as GM of the Houston Astros, Wade has started by acquiring another speed-and-defense center fielder.

If I had the money to spare, I'd buy season tickets to a minor league park instead. -
In another thread, Czech questioned the purpose of paying money for satellite radio. That got me to thinking about a recent pet peeve. What the hell is the point of high definition tv? Satellite radio runs $12.95 a month, period. In order to receive high definition television, you need to spend $500-1000+ on a new television, buy an HD DVD or Blu-Ray video player (with new video library), pay for a digital cable or satellite tv package, pay extra for certain high definition channels (ESPN HD and co. is an extra $12.95/month on my system). And for what, the video looks a little better? I barely look at the screen as it is.

XM user. The big thing is the out-of-town baseball. You know how big a fan I am, so paying for such a package is a good deal. On the radio market itself, I live two hours away from any major city amidst hilly terrain, so my options are limited. If not for baseball, I would not own satellite radio but I would likely stick with CDs while driving. I can't stand to listen to any terrestrial radio in my region.
