  1. If the gap is that large it's a different matter. Usually it's not.
  2. My five favorite albums of this decade, Note I'm not claiming these are the best, as there are huge blind spots in my listening these days. 1. Belle & Sebastian's The Life Pursuit 2. Bjork's Medulla 3. Air's Talkie Walkie 4. Isobel Campbell's Amorino 5. Radiohead's Kid A
  3. Fixed, that should've said Andruw Jones. The problem is that the guys with the best stats often are NOT the best players. The All-Star game is supposed to feature the best players in baseball. Are the best players the guys who performed best in April-June of that year? Or are they the guys who have compiled a body of work and ESTABLISHED themselves as stars of the game? As for voting, it works 90% of the time. The only real problem is when there is no elite player and a player gets selected by plurality.
  4. For the record, here's what my ballot would look like. American League C: Joe Mauer 1B: Travis Hafner 2B: Brian Roberts SS: Derek Jeter 3B: Alex Rodriguez OF: Manny Ramirez OF: Vladimir Guerrero OF: Grady Sizemore National League C: Brian McCann 1B: Albert Pujols 2B: Chase Utley SS: Rafael Furcal 3B: Miguel Cabrera OF: Jason Bay OF: Carlos Beltran OF: Andruw Jones Except for one or two positions, it'll stay that way through June.
  5. Well no one tells the fans now what the criteria is for an All-Star.
  6. I disagreed. I simply believe that half a season's worth of statistics is a ridiculous way of picking All Stars. How should All-Stars be selected then. The best players at each position. The problem is that a half-season is not a significant sample. I think you need to look at the last two years or so to determine the best players. An All-Star berth should be something you earn.
  7. For those of you with Comcast Philly, I notice that they often come back from commercial breaks late enough to miss a pitch. Anyone else notice?
  8. I disagreed. I simply believe that half a season's worth of statistics is a ridiculous way of picking All Stars.
  9. Buehrle's got a .595 win percentage and he had two great seasons before a subpar outing last year. He's hardly mediocre.
  10. NO-HITTER!!!
  11. This would be the first no-hitter in new Comiskey Park.
  12. Lee Sinins' sabermetric encyclopedia. I ran a query for single season leaders with only a 30 PA minimum. Sigman had the highest batting average. What I found interesting was that Barry Bonds (2004) STILL had the highest OBP.
  13. Let's put it this way. Can you tell me who Tripp Sigman was?
  14. She was 96. Gotta give my props to an actress who appeared in a Marx Brothers film (A Night At the Opera).
  15. I'm more interested in the product than two years ago, for what it's worth. I think Cena's entertaining. Honestly, WWE's in good shape. I'd rather see the world title on one wrestler rather than hotshotted from wrestler to wrestler in an attempt to get them over. The last couple of years they've brought in a number of talented young wrestlers and that effort has brought us Johnny Nitro, Carlito, Cryme Tyme, Kenny Dykstra, Umaga, Trevor Murdoch, Elijah Burke, Ken Kennedy, MVP, and CM Punk. Now not all of these guys are future stars. But I honestly feel this is an exciting time to be a fan. I don't think there's another strong face ready to carry the company, so I have no problem with Cena.
  16. Honestly, I think this is trying to salvage Lieber. He stunk as a reliever. If he stinks as a starter, they'll cut him. Sort of a last chance.
  17. Here's why this is really a stupid idea. Starters have taken the loss six out of nine games. It doesn't do any good to improve the bullpen when you can't give them leads to begin with.
  18. What the FUCK?!
  19. It seems odd now, but Heenan used to be a good wrestler. I would dare say he was one of the best bump men in wrestling in his day. Underrated in that regard.
  20. Good stuff this week. Two PPVs, plus a new house show. The shorties gives us the infamous Jimmy Hart battle royal! Plus the new rivalries show is up.
  21. One could argue though that their post-Invasion years ended up better. If they brought them in at once, they might have blown their wad early.
  22. Clearly there are different standards for the WWE and CE folders. We used to have a disclaimer about topics in CE being more heated and although it is not up anymore, it still applies.
  23. Manuel should've cracked him right there.
  24. I drove on I-80 in New Jersey several weeks ago and at 70 mph I was easily the slowest car on the road. Jersey drivers are nuts.
  25. Bob Backlund was pretty bad in his face run.
