  1. That wasn't a choke-job. It was a good team squeaking out a run.
  2. Most of the Red Barons from this season. Gavin Floyd, Pedro Liriano, Mike Bacsik, Eude Brito, Brian Sanches, Martire Franco, Kevin Hodge, Yoel Hernandez, Danny Sandoval, Chris Coste, Carlos Ruiz, A.J. Hinch, John Castellano, Anthony Medrano, Juan Sosa, Jim Rushford, Shane Victorino, Mark Budzinski, Buzz Hannahan, and Sean Fesh. A special nod to Fesh and Floyd, who were most gracious when I met them personally. Marlon Byrd of course, and I'll throw a nod to the recently retired Dan Giese.
  3. Morgan's criticisms of Sandberg are quite silly, but Morgan was easily a better second baseman than Sandberg.
  4. http://philadelphia.phillies.mlb.com/NASAp...t=.jsp&c_id=phi Holy shit.
  5. Great trade for the Reds, who can plug a good prospect into third base immediately. I'm not sure of the deal from the Padres' point of view, and I would wait and see on the Orioles, who are likely to make further deals if this goes through.
  6. Dangerous A, I know it is nice to post these ESPN articles and everything is meant well, please keep in mind that posting Insider comment could be a violation of their property.
  7. I have a question, since I am not familiar with the NHL's minor league system. Is there a possibility that Crosby could log some time with Pittsburgh's AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre?
  8. Which is a pretty good indication that the league hated them.
  9. If only the Yankees had a pitcher in the minors with a career K/9 ratio of 11.5.
  10. The Phillies turfed Tim Worrell, trading him to Arizona for minor league infielder Matt Kata. Kata looks bound for AAA Scranton, so I'll get a chance to see him personally.
  11. Aaron Small pitches for the Yankees tonight. Yankee fans might want to do themselves a favor and shield their eyes.
  12. Orioles/Twins today on ESPN, starting right about now.
  13. Because it restricts topics to a single thread. If someone feels that a subject deserves its own thread, they have the right to do so. If things get out of hand, then we consider bringing things in line.
  14. Michael Kay stated on the broadcast that the bullpen was overworked and needed rest.
  15. Just to clarify, you can have a single thread, but it would not have the OaO tag.
  16. I ran into a brick wall mentally simulating the league. I will try to run the conclusion of the season in the very near future.
  17. Yes. They showed those guys about a month ago as well. It's a running competition apparently. Rich Harden is delivering another gem, no runs and two hits through five.
  18. And Ryan Howard hits a walk-off home run in the tenth to turn a 4-3 deficit into a 5-4 victory.
  19. Chien-Ming Wang is NOT the type of player the Yankees should be withholding in trade talks. He's 25, had good but not outstanding minor league stats, and he's injury prone. If the Yankees can deal him for a useful player like Randy Winn, they should bite.
  20. I would prefer not having a thirty page long thread. If you want to have monthly threads, that is fine. But even if you ultimately have a season long thread, it will NOT contain the dreaded OaO tag.
  21. No one gets a OaO thread.
  22. I can't say I like the Gerut/DuBois trade for the Cubs. DuBois can not field at all, but he is a legitimate power threat. Gerut is just a league average corner outfielder.
  23. OPS is simply the sum of On Base Percentage and slugging percentage. OPS+ is OPS, adjusted to the league average and for the player's home park. An OPS+ of 100 would be league average, an OPS+ of 110 is 10% better than league average, and so on. ERA+ is the same concept as OPS+, except with earned run average. WARP2 is also seen as WARP3. I believe the numbers designate the version of the statistic, but I could be wrong. It is short for Wins Above Replacement Level. It essentially seeks to measure a player's contributions above the level of a substitute player. It has its supporters but I have never used the statistic myself. Baseballprospectus.com could give you more information.
  24. While it has gone unreported, the Orioles get a huge boost today as Eric Bedard, their best starter this season, comes off the disabled list and starts tonight.
