  1. If the season ended today, they'd be 21st. That's with a month to go mind you.
  2. Something I'm working on for the column you guys might find interesting. I'm looking at the St. Louis Cardinals infield, to see where they rank all time. Would you believe top 5?
  3. I can't tell you much about Carlisle itself, but its not to far away from Harrisburg. Lancaster isn't far away either, and there are some great restaurants there. Hershey PA is just 34 miles away, home of one of the best theme parks in the country.
  4. Here you are guys. I believe the game starts at 9 Eastern.
  5. We'll keep this thread to preview the games this week. For the actual games, we're creating chatter threads for each time slot.
  6. Some All Time Mentions..... Addie Joss. HOF pitcher developed tubercular meningitis, and died in early 1911. Christy Mathewson. His lungs were scarred in a poison gas attack in WWI, ending his career. He died a premature death in 1925. Don Wilson. Committed suicide in 1975. Lou Gehrig. Lyman Bostock. Murdered in 1978. Gil Hodges. Died of a heart attack during spring training, at the age of 47.
  7. The first post does say 25 years. And Drazen Petrovic is another outstanding pick. I can't believe that slipped by as well.
  8. What happened to Iran Barkley? I never heard anything.
  9. Well, at least I won't have to stay up for this game. And in case it turns out to be an Oakland comeback classic, I'l catch the archive on MLB Gameday audio.
  10. Our compensation pick for Drew's greed was Eric Valent. We're even now. Eric Valent isn't that bad, you know, if he gets time. Valent had stalled big time in the Phillies organization. If he were to succeed, he had to move elsewhere. Don't get me wrong though, I'm happy for him. In fact, he autographed my Phillies cap a few years ago.
  11. Our compensation pick for Drew's greed was Eric Valent. We're even now.
  12. Gerald McClellan's an excellent one. I can't believe I forgot that.
  13. Stone actually has a Cy Young award to his credit, going 25-7 in 1980. It was his only real good season, but it was a good one.
  14. I'd argue the opposite. All of that are really minor connections. If we considered a few guys with collegiate backgrounds, how many others could I include? Do Andujar Cedeno and Mike Darr count?
  15. I'm not denying there are not bad NBA games. There certainly are. My argument is that there have ALWAYS been bad NBA games.
  16. So why did Steinbrenner vote to renew that dipshit at the owners' meetings a few weeks ago?
  17. What specific year did the zone defense become legal?
  18. Darryl Kile. I can't believe people have forgotten about that already. J.R. Richard's stroke would rate highly as well.
  19. Sure you can. It's simple, has Cabrera saved move runs with his glove than Nomar would have contributed with his bat? Without conclusions let, here are a few numbers. Batting average on balls in play, that is, batting average with strikeouts removed. The Red Sox allowed their opponents to hit .315 before the All-Star Break, compared to .313 in August. Meanwhile, their K:BB ratio, a defense independant stat, has risen from 2.28 to 4.2. A 4.20 K:BB ratio. The next best in August was 2.82, from the Minnesota Twins Now, judging from those stats, is Boston's recent upsurge the result more of the improved fielding, or the improved pitching?
  20. Although I would like to note that Nomar leads Cabrera/Mientkiewicz in Win Shares since the trade, 4 to 3. Alex Gonzalez also has three win shares for the Expos.
  21. I'll bite. I may have been wrong on the trade. I honestly can't tell without looking over the statistics, however. I will put together a piece in the column however and then you all can pass judgement on me.
  22. You're reading that backwards, and missing a start. He made his debut against the Tigers, and gave up seven runs (five earned) in 4.1 IP.
  23. I could always go for some extra college baseball games.
  24. That was one game. Halsey had a 7.23 ERA this season. The only positive you can take out of that was that it was better than Esteban Loaiza.
  25. While everyone enjoys a good flame war, this has gone far enough. If you wish to discuss this subject further, start a new thread, or better yet, take it to Hardcore Discussion. Let's try and get this thread back to game discussions.
