  1. That makes it mw679's pick, followed by Canadian Brandon.
  2. I know this is supposed to be an '04 rematch, but how many of those guys are still on the team AND not injured (unlike Schilling, Pujols and Ortiz)? In the Cardinals' case, Jason Isringhausen.
  3. NWA often had Florida talent appear on their shows around '85. Backlund was one of them.
  4. Del Ray actually appeared in WCW ten years earlier as a jobber named Jimmy Backlund.
  5. I love the sporting events, but the last several Olympics have felt like episodes of Dateline with all the damned human interest stories sprinkled in. It's so over-produced that you get surprisingly little sporting action.
  6. Czech, the reason being is that twice in the tenth inning, Utley fielded a ball and threw to Gordon covering first, and they botched the play both times. Either would have been the third out of the inning. As far as American/National League, let's be clear on the difference between hitting and overall quality. The National League is of course going to generally post lesser hitting numbers as a whole, because their pitchers occupy a spot in the batting order. I think the point Dandy is attempting to make though is that the average hitter of the National League is stronger. Take hitting by pitchers out of batting statistics each year, and the NL beats the AL in batting and slugging percentages. Of course you can blame other things for that, like ballparks or pitching. The perception of the American League as the stronger league stands. How much of that is legitimate I do not know. I do believe the difference is slim and not an overriding factor in baseball as some would believe. The reason it popped up in the first place is (I believe) due to the Yankees/Red Sox arms war going into overdrive, and other teams adapting to keep up. The National League does not have such an issue, as no team dominates from year to year.
  7. I think I know what Chase Utley and Tom Gordon are doing tomorrow.
  8. Play at the plate in St. Louis. Yadier Molina was knocked cold on a collision by Eric Bruntlett, and held on to the ball! Molina is still down, I really hope he's ok.
  9. The Cardinals' pitchers have lost all control as they've walked four straight hitters to tie the game. So Taguchi got a round of applause from the home crowd for his pinch-running appearance.
  10. The league argument is really irrelevant in this case. Myers' ERA was 3.72 and 3.91 in 2005-06. Coming into today it was 5.34 (and he allowed 6 ER in 6 IP). Pitching in the same division the whole time, the competition hasn't changed. Only the results.
  11. God DAMN Brett Myers sucks this year.
  12. They were one and two in the '92 Rumble.
  13. Miles is the best short reliever the Cards have.
  14. Kudos to Aaron Miles for stepping in and pitching a 1-2-3 ninth.
  15. Cardinals need to throw in the towel on this one. What a brutal fourth inning. A leadoff out followed by nine runs.
  16. Daisuke Matsuzaka is pitching rehab at Lehigh Valley on Monday night. Picked up a pair of tickets.
  17. First selection is WarGames '91. A redundant pick in a way, but this match is way too good to let slide. Participants are Ric Flair, Sid Vicious, Arn Anderson and Larry Zbyszko vs. Sting, Brian Pillman and the Steiner Brothers. Second, I'd like one Survivor Series matchup. We will go with the Ten Team Tag Match from Survivor Series 1987. Non-stop action from bell to bell. Strike Force, Young Stallions, the Rougeaus, the Killer Bees and the British Bulldogs against the Hart Foundation, the Islanders, Demolition, the Bolsheviks, Greg Valentine and Dino Bravo.
  18. Hang on Chris. I'll have picks within three minutes.
  19. Neither does HR #3 from Pat Burrell.
  20. A week and a half ago, Dandy (I think) made a post mentioning that the NL East would get tighter over the next week. This is not to boast about things. Rather, I notice that all six divisions and even the wild card race have clear leaders. The BoSox have pulled ahead of the Rays. The White Sox went on a tear. The Angels established a five game lead. The Cubs are well ahead. The Dbacks have stumbled but the West is sub-.500. Scott Olsen I think may become a very good pitcher if he ever leaves Florida. Of course with Cantu and Hanley Ramirez behind him, and Luis Gonzalez in left, his defense is awful. Besides that, he looks very uncomfortable pitching in the heat. By the end of the game, he was DRENCHED in sweat to the point where it was pouring off the brim of his hat. The same thing happened in a Phillies/Marlins game last year. It can not be easy for a Michigan kid to pitch in Miami, and I can understand.
  21. Hard to get going when you get no playing time. Duncan is 28, I wish the Yankees would trade him elsewhere so he could get steady time.
  22. Twelve hour window expired, so Hitman Jebus can make a pick.
  23. Not to celebrate in a player's pain, but Pujols' injury could not have come at a better time.
  24. The tag title match is a bit of fun considering three of the four combatants are first cousins.
  25. Phillies just scored two runners on a wild pitch.
