  1. This is something I've took in consideration, but haven't quite figured out yet. The entire league has been cut by 14 teams from actual 1986. That takes out quite a bit of the scrubs. The star players in this league will almost certainly produce lower numbers than their real life counterparts, due to the increased competition.
  2. In all seriousness, I think you guys should get away from discussing board matters there as a matter of policy. It really doesn't help things at all.
  3. The Phillies got one hit, and failed even to get a runner to second base. As pathetic an offensive performance as they've mustered the last ten years. 0-2. That's not bad on its own merits. The problem is that the Phillies have started 1-6 three of the last four years. It's disgusting.
  4. Personally I'm not fond of too many pinned threads. Duplicate threads haven't been a problem here at all.
  5. Probably not, since most of the discussion is honestly planning fantasy leagues. It helps to have that stuff visible to recruit players.
  6. We've tried it before, it usually dies. Maybe the best time is to wait for the next broadcast of Fox baseball.
  7. It's not as if the Phillies have this wonderful pitching staff either. I have a feeling both the East and Central will become battles of attrition by August.
  8. Hey gang. Figured I would open up the floor a bit here. We haven't done this in quite some time and with new ownership, it seems like a good idea. -Do you guys feel there are too many all encompassing threads? Currently the last ten topics in the forum include two NBA threads, an MLB thread, an NHL thread, the NFL offseason thread, two fantasy baseball threads. A great deal of the discussion involves posting about games ongoing and little else. Should we change that somehow? -Should we encourage more topics based on issues in sports? -Are there any valid complaints about my actions here?
  9. People think they are headed in the right direction at long last. They still need to acquire the pure talent.
  10. April Fools Jokes are really played out at this point. Every single f'n website has to have one, and they get lamer and lamer. Makes me glad TSM turfed our own plans.
  11. The New York Yankees drafted both Fred McGriff and John Elway in 1981.
  12. Obviously the season isn't over for the Cubs, that's hyperpole. The Cubs have played like shit today though, making several errors and mistakes all over the diamond. If Piniella starts replacing some of these guys with "proven veterans," there's a good reason.
  13. I see where you're coming from, Czechsault.
  14. Gorilla Monsoon promised to retire if he lost to Ken Patera in the Spectrum in 1980. Monsoon lost, fulfilled a few contractual obligations and except for filling in for Andre the Giant in 1981 (after Killer Khan injured Andre), Monsoon never wrestled again.
  15. Well, Greg Valentine actually DID main event shows in his prime.
  16. I think Busch Stadium is still the greatest story behind naming rights. When August Busch bought the team in the early '50s, he wanted to rename the park "Budweiser Stadium." Team owners would not allow that (and now we have Coors Field and Miller Park). So Busch named the park after himself, THEN set about marketing new Busch beer.
  17. 13 scoreless innings now for the SF Giants.
  18. Chris Coste's The 33 Year Old Rookie. I was disappointed, honestly. Coste's is a nice story, and that he wrote this without a ghostwriter is phenomenal. It is short however, and is desperately lacking in details. The 2005 Red Barons for example are covered in less than two pages. What is there is largely fact driven. It is good to get the story of what happened, but at no point do you really reach to the soul of the participants. You get the facts, but you don't really get a deeper understanding of the game in any fashion. Recommended only for Phillies fans or fans of the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks.
  19. I'm heading to Reading tonight to catch the IronPigs/R-Phils exhibition game. Carlos Carrasco vs. J.D. Durbin. The advantage of a minor league exhibition game is that teams don't feel the need to hold back on their starters.
  20. You can't, it's locked once the season starts.
  21. I figure the nature of a drafted league will keep most teams close to .500.
  22. Eh, it's Dames. He's entitled to a catch-all topic.
  23. Major League 2 is awful, awful. Halfway through they gave up and just made the first movie again!
  24. I have the EI preview. The problem is that the Mets, Yankees, Phillies and Pirates are in the blackout range. First three teams no problem, I get their games on local cable. The Pirates? Not only do their games not air in my region, the city is over a five hour drive away.
  25. I'd love to watch Pittsburgh/Atlanta, but it's blacked out. Can't infringe on the Pirates' territorial rights ya know.
