Im going to do everything in my power to get tickets to the Os/Yankees when they're up in NY May 20-22. Im going up to Northern NJ that same week for my GF's birthday and my birthday is the following week. Luckily she likes baseball although luckily again she doesnt have a favorite team. I was going to get tickets to the Memorial day game vs Yankees at Camden Yards but given its the last year for Yankee Stadium Im going to give it a shot to go to NY for a game. Yankees single game tickets go on sale next friday.

is anyone really that SHOCKED that a male college student would go with the cool young black guy over the angry old white woman?

a 1080p tv has more lines of resolution (1920x1080) vs 720p (1280x 720) and fitting the increased number of lines of resolution into a the same sized set using the same technology (LCD/DLP etc) makes it expensive. 1080p sets technically are only being sold because they're the best available..I doubt most people would buy them if they realized to utilize the extra resolution they would have to also purchase a Blu Ray Player (or an X Box 360 for gaming purposes only) since there are no broadcasts via OTA or Cable/Sat that are 1080p and nor with there likely be within the next 10 years given bandwith constraints. On the absolute best 1080p set, you'll only see a slight improvement in 720p signals over a 720p set, with more of an improvement in the 1080i signals over a 720p set, but still neither really being worth the extra money. Bottom line is unless you plan to buy a Blu Ray player Id stick with the 720p sets. As far as 4k goes, its a middle step to Ultra HD (7,680 × 4,320) so I dont see it being that big, however I can see 4k becoming common place in theatres to give people a reason to go back to the theatres to see movies instead of watching in HD at home since the tech for 4k projectors is available now and the extra resolution would make a large theatre screen look better. Ultra HD is probably at least 10 years away for 2 major reasons. They havent been able to create a camera that record such a high resolution picture yet and also the raw signal would require 28 Gbps bandwith for the video alone. It has been compressed so far to about 600 Mbps, which would still be too much to fit on any current optical media format and would fill even the largest hard drives available currently for just one 2 hour program. The other major fault of 4k and Ultra HD is that the screen sizes needed to be able to notice a difference in picture quality are much larger than whats available today for homes. You'd probably need a 200 inch tv for 4k and honestly thats not going to fit in anyone's house...though its good for large screens like theatres and sports stadiums.

MarvinisaLunatic replied to Kinetic's topic in No Holds Barred
Its amazing though that he does the exact same style of comedy now, but coming from a redneck..its funny..har har. The best Redneck comic guy is Ron White. -

Pitch Larry the Cable Guy Movie Ideas

Seems the logical choice is to play "Larry Sanders" (or any other famous Larry you can think of in TV history) in a sequel to Cable Guy. -

NuclearHD selects Hillary Duff...err.. Barry Zito, SP

I still think this whole thing is setting up for a "miracle" Hillary comeback to win the nomination. I cant see an Obama/Bloomberg 3rd party ticket. It would essentially screw Obama over for the rest of his political career if he doesnt win and theres always the probability that McCain wins over Hillary and he could run again in 4 years. Let Bloomberg run himself and spend his own money on himself.

$70 bucks is about 15 more than they charge for HD Boxing matches and UFC in HD. Refuckingdiculous. -
Hernandez has played 120+ games just one year of the last four. What's amusing is that I remember the same Orioles optimism last year. Compare those with posts around July-September. If I were an Orioles' fan, I wouldn't expect much this season except maybe some breakout performances from the kids. The Eric Bedard trade at least represents a step in the right direction, and Matt Wieters and Billy Rowell could make some strides this season. Kazmir is not free agent eligible until after 2010. First of all, the Os were 27-27 at the end of May last year and were in contention before injuries killed them. Tejada, Hernandez, Ray, Loewen (he was hurt earlier but anyway) just to name a few. Several Os suffered oblique injuries last year which led me to believe there was a problem with the training staff but I havent heard anything about a shakeup there. Combine cutting down the injuries with stabilizing the Rotation because they lose 3 of their 5 starters from the beginning of the season so they dont have to play revolving door with the rotation like they did last year which saw them sign just about any warm bodied starting pitcher (Victor Zambrano, Victor Santos) as well as bringing up whatever they could from the minors (Birkins - who is with TB now, Leicester and Liz). Bedard wasnt a free agent until after 2009 and the Os traded him and got a boatload of talent in return cause they knew they couldnt afford to sign him, so why wouldnt the Rays trade a pitcher of almost equal talent in Kazmir in the same situation (2 years before FA)? I read it on a Rays fan blog that its what everyone expects to happen with Kazmir given the Bedard trade since theres no way the Rays ownership can afford to resign him given he would command over $10 mil a year and they want to keep the payroll around $50 mil . And Chris Ray has been soft tossing during ST but even if he comes back after the AS break he wont get the closer job back this year unless theres serious injuries. Everything Ive read indicates they like Sherill as the closer because he throws strikes and gets outs.

More than likely it has something to do with how the HD version is fed to your station and them screwing it up somehow. Syndicated HD is still very early but shows like Wheel and Jeopardy are the first ones to go. Most stations dont have any way to record the hd feed from wherever it comes from these days so even if they are HD they cant show syndicated shows like that in HD. The ones that do have the equipment can but it doesnt mean they cant screw it up. When shows like Regis and Kelly, Oprah and Dr. Phil go HD it will speed up the upgrade process a lot.

I don't see how citing last year's numbers means anything in this conversation. The Rays totally revamped their awful bullpen. Percival, Reyes and Wheeler are all superior to any option in the O's pen, and they have a couple of guys, including Eduardo Morlan, who could be excellent in the pen if given the opportunity. Ramon Hernandez and Dioner Navarro is a wash, but at least Navarro still has some upside left. Ramon Hernandez is cooked. If Evan Longoria plays a full season he'll put up an .800 OPS, which is something that Mora lost the ability to do somewhere around 5 years ago. Hell, if he only plays 3/4 season I bet his numbers end up trouncing Mora. It's not even fair to compare the two. Ramon Hernandez came back to camp having lost weight but its pretty clear he could get traded to bring up Wieters this year. I dont know how you're cooked if you have one year that was injury riddled. As far as the bullpen goes, through trades and injuries the Os have overhauled their bullpen as well. the only guys guaranteed to be out there on Opening Day are Walker, Bradford and Sherill.

You're insane. The Orioles are the worst team in baseball. If they win 70 games it'll be a miracle. They just took a 69 win team and traded their two best players for one good prospect who's ready to contribute. Please don't delude yourself into thinking that they have a shot to do anything other than finish 5th in their division this year. The Rays are better at every position on the diamond, except for right field and second base (if they don't trade Roberts). The starting pitching is better. The bullpen is better. Management is more competent and they have a plethora of talent in the minors that can help. Why would you possibly think that O's have a chance of finishing ahead of them? I dont see how you can say the Rays Bullpen is better since their bullpen was worse than the Orioles last year by a long shot which says something since the Os were 29th and they signed freakin Troy Percival to be their closer. Orioles dont even have a closer named yet but its likely going to be Sherrill. Id also like to say that a healthy Ramon Hernandez is better than whoever the Rays trot out (Dioner Navarro?) I wont even give you 3B either since a rapidly declining Melvin Mora is still better than "he he its Evan not Eva" Longoria.

The Orioles blow. I like how you think trading away your ace isn't going to negatively impact the pitching staff. It's cute really. Because they improved the bullpen in the trade (Sherrill) AND are getting back Adam Loewen who was off to a good start last year before getting hurt. I dont think trading Bedard is going to hurt the Orioles as much as everyone thinks... Rotation looks like Guthrie/Loewen/Cabrera/Trachsel/??? Thats almost exactly as it was last year with the exception of Guthrie in Bedard's spot and I dont think theres going to be much drop off from Bedard to Guthrie other than in K's. I was also saddened to hear that Troy Patton most likely has a torn labrum and wont pitch this year.

The Orioles arent going to lose 100 games this year. They arent that bad of a team as it stands now. And the Rays might be on the rise, but that balloon is going to be popped this upcoming offseason when they have to trade Kazmir. They wont be able to stay in contention for any length of time if they cant afford to resign their best players. Oh and it looks like Roberts and Payton will be going to the Cubs at some point this week..

That would be perfect if he had a monocle.

That show was horrible, so no. liar

I cant see the ..Rays.. finishing ahead of the Orioles. Right now, yeah..but as the season progresses I would put money on Percival and Floyd breaking down, and Pena not living up to 07. Matt Garza wont be any better than some of the younger pitchers they have and I cant see Jason Bartlett having any impact. I honestly think the Os will get better as the season progresses, and for as bad as the lineup looks right now I think the pitching staff wont miss a beat without Bedard and the bullpen will be vastly improved over 07. Im not delusional into thinking the Orioles have a playoff shot now..and they probably will finish in 4th place again..but its not going to be such a bad year that they finish behind the ..Rays..
