  1. Superman Returns didn't flop; it made $120 million. It didn't do as well as everyone would have liked, but it still did well. Are you talking about profit? Cause no one ever knows how much profit a movie makes since there's so many costs to factor in. If you're talking about box office then it made $200 million domestic and about $400 million worldwide. Don't know where 120 came from. And no that is not a flop. Like I said, it did better than Batman Begins.
  2. You want to know something funny? Cage actually did get paid $20 million for that. I mean, I would have loved for that to happen to me! Get paid $20 million to NOT do a movie! I also remember for that same movie, Warner Bros. wanted Chris Rock to be Jimmy Olsen! You should check out this old thread if you want to see the fuckups that came before Superman Returns. And as for Lex, I prefer the Superman: Birthright version of the character because he was both a crazy mad scientist AND an evil industrialist businessman.
  3. Yeah Bosworth was a bad bad casting choice.
  4. I think Routh was a great Superman/Clark and the film was good enough, it just lacked anything really great. I mean, the climax was Superman fighting an island. A reboot would definately not be the way to go. The first one made enough money (about the same as Batman begins, actually more worldwide) and had pretty darn good critical reception, so Singer deserves to make another in the same continuity. There just seems to be this retarded internet meme that the movie was a total flop and was complete shit. Singer has talked about his plans for a second one which he said would have more action, a more credible threat, and be darker (he mentioned Wrath of Khan vs the first Star Trek movie as a comparison). Hopefully that means the kid bites it at least. He also said that a second one wouldn't have the references and homages to the original series like he felt was necessary in Superman Returns.
  5. I hope Warner Bros finally gets their shit together after seeing the major bank that a serious, faithfull version of Batman is pulling in. I mean, the godawfull version of the Justice League movie that was so close to being made, had the writers strike not happened, sounded just terrible. Then there was the comedy Green Lantern where Jack Black would play a bumbling moron that happens across a power ring and accidentaly becomes a superhero because the ring keeps doing it for him. And then there was Catwoman. The ones that had potential were the Joss Whedon Wonder Woman and that Flash movie that was written by Goyer and was possibly going to star Ryan Renolds. Too bad those didn't happen.
  6. One other thing is that Titanic didn't have the DVD market to deal with like films do today. DVD's come out so soon after the movies hit theaters and people are so into buying them that it does take away quite a bit from the theatrical releases. If I were guessing I'd say TDK takes out the original Star Wars for 2nd place and maybe cracks 500 million, but won't beat Titanic. The fact that people are even entertaining that thought is a testament to this movie though.
  7. Yeah but I think that play was an audible since he was trying to kill Dent with a rocket launcher right up until that point. Maybe his plan could have used some more explaining... but then, as he said, he wasn't really a "man with a plan" and was more like a dog chasing a car, not knowing what to do with it if he caught it. Titanic got a huge boost by the Oscar nominations, plus it had 0 competition for like months. So it was kind of a freak of timing that it made so much money.
  8. That's actually a really cool idea. I mean, obviously not going to be as gory as Saw is.. but just as sinister and twisted.. that would be pretty interesting. but that's pretty much already what the joker did--elaborately constructed booby-traps designed to force people into impossible decisions. it was already stretching the limits of plausibility how far ahead of everybody else he was thinking (getting caught on purpose with an escape plan, the sheer amount of architecture he had to rig with explosives, etc.). I'm pretty sure he didn't get caught on purpose, just that once he did get caught his people sent the guy in with the bomb inside him. It was Joker's contingency plan if he did get arrested.
  9. That was one of the things about Joker that was so fucking brilliant in this movie. He was willing to let Batman kill him since it would bring Batman down to the level of a killer. Same with Harvey, Joker put the gun to his own head and let Harvey choose (or the coin) whether to pull the trigger. He didn't care about his own life but rather fucking up everything else as much as he could. Then there was the maniacal laughing as Batman tossed him off the building even though he was plummeting to his death, or thought so at least.
  10. I don't get this criticism. Dent's overall storyline fit in perfectly with the encompassing theme of this film and felt natural. I don't think Nolan was concerned with detracting from the film he was making to set up a more convenient sequel. This movie would have been weaker if he had done that. And please don't compare that with the complete botch job they did with Venom. Venom was shoehorned in to SpiderMan 3 and detracted from the movie big time whereas the storyline of Harvey's fall fit right in and was a huge contribution thematically.
  11. "How 'bout a magic trick? I'm going to make this pencil disappear."
  12. I demand Franklin be part of his gang.
  13. I love how the story has developed to "Christian Bale was questioned (not arrested) and released (without any charges) over an ALLEGATION of VERBAL assault against his alcoholic and drugged out mother and sister." And then if you check/listen to any major news source you get: "ZOMG BATMAN IN JAIL FOR BEATING MOM!!!"
  14. The one in the Watchmen trailer was a remix (or rather re-recording) I believe.
  15. Not upset, I was hoping for it to do that much. I just thought you were being overly optimistic. Clearly I was oh so very wrong.
  16. I'm blown away. I honestly was expecting 80-90 million until I started hearing about all the sellouts days before the movie opened. I still didn't see it breaking the record though. Damn glad that it did though since it's a phenomenal movie and Spiderman 3 was crap.
  17. In the first movie he's tried near the beginning and Crane gets him admitted to Arkham. And then later, he's the escaped prisonner that threatens Rachael and the little kid. Yuo can even see his trademark scars in a couple shots.
  18. Oh man, not even over a killer 80's inspirational montage? LIVE TO WIN BATMAN! LIVE TO WIN
  19. Dude, having the song from Batman and Robin in the trailer was a brilliant move. It's just the sort of subversive, referential stuff you'd expect from Watchmen. And just go buy Watchmen and read it. It's cheap and you'll find it in any book store.
  20. Yeah I think Knightfall has a chance at working, though I don't think you need Jean-PAUL in there. One problem is that they already did the "Arkham gets blown open and all the inmates get out" part in the first movie, which was so integral to Knightfall. I'm guessing the next movie will have Batman's status as a fugitive as a big driving factor in the plot. I'm also not convinced that Harvey is dead. I think Talia would be a really good love interest/villian for the third part. Also, they should totally have Scarecrow back again to get very quickly busted by Batman.
  21. No it doesn't but they never adjust for inflation when talking about breaking records.
  22. That's a pretty good assessment, TDK will make huge money but has way too much stacked against it (other films, does't look like much of a kid's movie) to break any records.
  23. It's Bob Kane actually. And it was actually him and Bill Finger if I'm not mistaken (nor wikipedia), though Finger never gets credit in moves/adaptations. I wonder why that it?
  24. No, of course it would be awesome. It just seems that the expectations for how much money The Dark Knight will do (yes I've seen 150 million around a lot) keep getting higher and higher and people are way too quick these days to label something that doesn't meet outrageous expectations a 'flop.'
  25. Great, now it's a flop when it doesn't break opening records. Thanks internet.
