Discussion: Possible DC Universe Movies

Here's another article that has some more information. This quote: "Like the recent Batman sequel -- which has become the highest-grossing film of the year thus far -- Mr. Robinov wants his next pack of superhero movies to be bathed in the same brooding tone as "The Dark Knight." Creatively, he sees exploring the evil side to characters as the key to unlocking some of Warner Bros.' DC properties. "We're going to try to go dark to the extent that the characters allow it," he says. That goes for the company's Superman franchise as well." really remindes me of when Watchmen and Dark Knight Returns came out and were so successfull that every comic book immediatly had to be 'dark' and 'angsty.' Which of course led to the scores and scores of shitty books that permiated the 90s and almost killed the industry. Superman as 'dark and brooding' is a fucking terrible idea by the way. I'm just thankfull their pathetically stupid Justice League concept isn't going to happen. -
Looked around the net, found no mentions. Try a virus and a malware scan. Does it only happen to certain programs/when certain programs are running?
-
I think the general consensus among the people who work at DC is that 75% of the time Warner Bros doesn't even remember that it owns DC Comics.

Zsasz was in the first one and got punked out by Batman pretty quick.

IRON MAN vs BATMAN!!!

Yeah the movie's just 3 or 4 episodes stapled together isn't it? It's a theatrical release of the TV show, so I assume the costs weren't too high. Also, apparently it's a terrible piece of crap and the reviews are being pulled off the net by the studio's lawyers until release.

What the frak is this? drunk

First, probably a stupid question, but have you completely power cycled the computer? I mean, are you sleeping/hibernating it rather than completely turning it off each time? If so, then try a complete shutdown. Well since you can get IE working, you can do an online virus/malware scan and find out if that's a problem. Sure I've had random explorer.exe crashes throughout every Windows I've ever used, but every time? Sounds like something might be up. I HAVE heard about trojans that can cause this behavior. Try booting into safe mode too. Vista has a System Restore function too so that might be something to try. But you might not be able to access it since you can't seem to keep anything running.

I think it should be like in the 90s. So they can have like 782 different "X-Men brand" movies on the go with various characters appearing in multiple films and every few years they can have a big crossover where you have to watch all of the movies to get the whole story. And there should be way more characters that have "shooting huge fucking guns" as their mutant powers. And Rob Liefeld should direct.

No way in hell will the Mummy come in first next week with the reviews it's getting. Even with good reviews it's wouldn't drop less than Dark Knight. It will have a big second weekend drop so it won't even beat TDK. And Pineapple Express opens on a Wednesday so it probably won't have a big enough weekend to beat TDK either.

He'll be out of jail in five years and be treated for therapy. Yup, that's how we roll up here.

I love the second one. There are some classic moments in that movie. I know some people hate it a lot but I like it as much as the first one, maybe more. My favorite part of the movie is Del James, the English roadie guy. His story about being in Sri Lanka needing to find brown M&Ms for Ozzy is one of my favorite scenes from any comedy movie. And yeah, the Village People part was awesome.

I liked the first one because it was a decent parody/satire of spy movies and most of the humour came from the situations and characters. The other 2 were just terrible self-parodies that had jokes for the sake of jokes rather than any intelligent writing. But that's probably a pretty common criticism of that series. I'd almost be down for a Wayne's World 3 since I loved the other 2 so much, but at this point I have such bad feelings about Myers that I don't think I could stomach it. Plus the way he's been lately I think it would probably end up being a bunch of re-used jokes, over the top charichatures and bad toilet humour. It is kinda sad if he's writing this movie to deal with the death of his father 17 years ago, if I'm reading that right.

[Coming from someone who owns and has read COIE] That would be crazy confusing, require a million different superheroes, and you'd in no way be able to explain any of the backstory. It would end up being batshit insane. So yes, it would be a very cool movie and I'd love to see it. -
Yeah but Sam Raimi made Sony a shitload of money on the first 2 Spiderman movies and they still stuck their noses in his work on the 3rd one. However, I think Nolan is in a better position since a) TDK is on track to make way more money than any of the Spiderman movies. b) I think Raimi had signed on for the 2nd and 3rd whereas Nolan could still walk if the studio didn't give him his way.

Ryan Reynolds seems like way too big of an actor to be cast in what will probably be a relatively minor supporting role so I'm praying that means they're planning a Deadpool movie. Oh and Will.i.am?? Awesome, they cast a rapper in his first movie role in this.

I'm sort of warming to one of the ideas I've heard tossed around for the next one. That is to have a second vigilante appear who's much more harsh and brutal, who kills the people he's trying to bring to justice. So Batman has to deal with him while on the run from the police as well. Most of the time I see this suggested they say to use Nightwing as the new guy, but I think you could go with Azrael and it could open some interesting avenues. You've got the aspect of Batman being trained by the League of Shadows and Azrael by the Order of St Dumas. You could even fit in more from the League and maybe Talia too. Doesn't have to have anything to do with Knightfall/quest but he could work as a foil for Batman. Of course I'm sure the studio wants another well known villian like Joker or Two-Face in the next film to sell to the masses. Though you could probably fit Two-Face (if he's not dead) into the above story. I just really don't want to see Catwoman or the Riddler.

Don't know if this is acutal concept art from the aborted Tim Burton Superman movie or just really bad fan art, but it made me laugh.

Yeah, I'm in this boat too. Plus, my city only has one IMAX screen and it's in the museum, so it never gets mainstream movies until months after they come out so I'll absolutely check it out on IMAX as soon as it comes here.

I'll bet you anything that if they finally get on that Wonder Woman movie then Megan Fox ends up playing her. Not that she'd me my choice, but the studios would probably go with her. -
Oh yeah, Anthony Hopkins doing the same script that Arnold did would have been fucked up beyond belief.
-
Maybe not, since the Penguin and Max Shreck died, but the bad guys are stopped and they reveal Catwoman to be alive in the last shot. You got to love the continuity of the old series. Catwoman was revealed to be alive at the end of the movie, and she doesn't appear at all in the next movie! Same thing with Harvey Dent, he appeared in the first movie, and wasn't in the 2nd. Were the Shumacher ones supposed to be in continuity with the Burton ones? I never got that. If so, then Harvey Dent going from Billy Dee Williams to Tommy Lee Jones is pretty wierd.

RottenTomatoes.com has Batman Begins with a Top Critics rating of 62% RottenTomatoes.com has Superman Returns with a Top Critics rating of 73% And so what about the budget. About the same amount of people in North America saw the two movies (more WW for SR). All I'm arguing is that the Superman series doesn't need a reboot. That doesn't make any sense when you look at the facts. PS I like Batman Begins way more than Superman Returns
