Not when the only thing Marlo cares about is his name, which no longer exists. Obviously of the two, Marlo got the better ending, but in the case of Marlo vs. Omar, Omar was still talked about and mythologized by people on the streets of Baltimore even after what should have been a humiliating death, while Marlo has all the money in the world and got to walk away from what should have put him in prison for a good long while, but the cost of it is that he's now completely out of his depth dealing with shit he clearly doesn't know the first thing about. When it comes to what actually matters to Marlo Stanfield, Omar Little won. I think it's kind of funny you make that point when there was that scene at the end of the episode where Omar doesn't even have the right name on the tag of his body bag. I think David Simon made his point about the worth of someone's 'name' in that world with that little metaphor. Definitely, and Beadie's speech in the same episode was pretty much more "it really doesn't matter how great you were once you're dead" evidence; if anything it was Omar's own legend that killed him since it seemed like Kenard's motivation for killing him was that the real Omar Little by that point in his life could never live up to the myth he'd become. I was just saying that in terms of what Marlo wanted, myopic as it may have been, he couldn't actually keep it. Yeah, I get you. Though I never really did see Kenard's motivation. There might have been something there to read and I missed it, but I just figured him to be a psycopath and an illustration of how dangerous the next generation coming down the pipe is. I think The Wire and The Shield are great compliments to each other since they deal with very similar subject matter but deal with it so differently. The Wire is so real and starkly presents all this commentary on the social ills of the country while The Shield is a crazy dramatic Shakespearean tragedy. Because of that, I always found some irony in the fact that The Wire was shot all clean and cinematic while The Shield was scratchy and handheld like a documentary.

British, American, and Canadian allegedly. But there's just so much history between Islamic radicals (both Pakistani and homegrown) and India that one shouldn't assume that this is jihadists using India to get at the west, as is being suggested by a lot of places in the media right now. There's a lot of drama being spun up to make the story seem sexier (I mean, 'Thanksgiving connection?' Really?). It could be part of a larger, more nefarious plot, but unfortunately terrorism like this has been a fact of life in that city for a while.

Interview with Shawn Ryan. Apparently Andre 3000 was playing the same character as before. I saw it as that when I was watching the finale.

I liked the silence with the buzzing of the overhead lights. I thought that little subtlety beat out any music montage they could have done.

It has NOTHING to do with thanksgiving. Mumbai (formerly Bombay) has been having Islamic terror attacks/bombings for decades (there were a whole bunch shortly after I was in that city for a few days). Islamic radicals have had beef in India forever due to the dispute over Kashmir along with other stuff. Plus, they took out the head of the city's anti-terrorism task force along with a bunch of officers, so it looks like THAT was their main objective. Also, the Indian government is now pushing that it was perpetrated by 'outsiders', which will soon morph into 'perpetrated by Pakistan.' Makes me feel so good that both those countries have The Bomb.

The moment your favorite superstar or any wrestler jumped the shark
ZGangsta replied to Boxer's topic in General Wrestling
I still think the biggest chance Jeff had to be a huge star was back in 01 when the Rock had taken off after WM17, Stone Cold and HHH were both heels (Austin as HW champ, HHH as IC champ), and the Hardy Boyz were crazy over with the crowd. So Jeff beat HHH for the IC strap in what looked like a main event push, only to have HHH beat the everloving shit out of him one week later and reclaim the title, and then Kane and Undertaker wandered down the ramp to start a feud with Trips and Austin and Jeff went back to the midcard. -
The WWF did start to go to crap the instant Wrestlemania X-Seven ended, but that insane Austin comedy heel stuff was pure GOLD. Especially when they had Kurt Angle as his ally when they were playing up that Angle was goofy and lame but yet had taken too many hits to the head and thus liable to snap and go psycho. And then they had Austin and Angle competing for Vince's affections, which gave awesome stuff like the time Stone Cold gives Vince a cowboy hat as a gift and then Angle's all jealous until Austin gives him cowboy hat too... except its a little kids hat... but Angle loves it anyways... and then Austin takes it away when he gets mad at Angle... and then they get in a shouting match about how Stone Cold is an "Indian Giver" that Vince has to break up. Surreal, weird, character destroying stuff. I thought it was funny as hell. Also Stone Cold interrogating Rob Van Dam trying to find out who the mole was during the invasion. Edit: Wait wait wait wait... I has clips http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBGzmkxLu4Q

Good article on why Gates would be good to keep on: http://www.slate.com/id/2205569/

I think the concept that "common sense" is a great way to deal with the insanely complex issues of the world is completely retarded.

Jon Hamm was a great host and they should really have him back sometime. Mad Men is a pretty good show too, worth checking out. Yeah the Brolin episode was pretty terrible, which was a shame because I thought Josh Brolin showed some chops despite the crappy material. I think he could do a really good show if the writers bring it.

Plus there's the classic "Turkey killing FOWLS Palin news conference." yuk yuk
-
What the hell is with the retarded MSNBC captions during that clip? "Gov Palin keeps talking as turkeys get slaughtered behind her." "Gov Palin not realizing incongruity of her words versus her backdrop." Wow thanks for explaining exactly what I'm watching.

I don't get how the Canucks are doing well at all. By all rights, they should be a worse team than last year but they're looking so much better.
-
Holy fuck. Vic confessing everything he's done while Claudette has to watch and do nothing about it was the moment of the whole series. "I've done worse." Damn.
-
The bad guys referred to it as Quantum once I think, and then M did at the end. That was all I'm pretty sure. I liked the movie a lot, and I didn't mind it being darker and the more violent Bond since it all made sense with the storyline. I'm really liking the multi film arc that they're building with this series.

The US Economy and Current Financial Crisis
ZGangsta replied to Cheech Tremendous's topic in Current Events
Anyone who thinks that letting the auto industry fail out of some idealistic vision of "true conservative free market capitalism" should read this article from CNN and realize what a retarded concept that is. I swear, the hardcore "free market fixes everything" libertarian crowd are just as crazy and idealistic as the people who think communism has a shot at working in this world. -
Well what we're watching now was supposed to be season 4 pt 2, except the writer's strike happened. I think season 2 had a break between pt 1 and 2 (as well as season 3). Liked the recent episode a lot. Seth getting decked again was great, and Ari's 'congratulatory speech' killed me. The deal with the director is interesting, because you can't tell if he hates Vince's acting and is just bullshitting him, or if he really knows what he's doing and will make Vince's performance really good. Also, wasn't Ed Norton supposed to be in this movie? Have then mentioned anything about him that I missed.
-
Well the notable part of that clip is that, ironically, Joe Scarborough is one of those right wing moral majority types who in the past has endlessly bitched on and on about people saying 'bad words' on television.
-
I love the conservatives who talk about moving to Canada. Yeah, you're scared of a liberal president so move to the country that is even more liberal than that president.
-
True, but we've never had a minority presidential canidate before, so that's never been an issue. Of the few people I've talked to that were voting for Obama, it seemed that they were more interested in bucking the system than electing the best man for the job. I'm just glad that Hitlery didn't win. Yeah, that's what happened. The reason the US elected a black president was because he was BLACK. Oh and 'Hitlery', I see what you did there.
-
I don't think the Republicans think they ran a bad campaign. They just got "unlucky" because of the economy. My guess is they'll go with Obama's "novelty" having worn off in '12 and just continue the same type of slash and burn tactics. I can't imagine the Republicans trying to win on issues. I'll bet 2012 is nothing but screams of 'GAY MARRIAGE!!!!' and 'ABORTION!!!' from the Republican party.
-
True, overall he was a terrible President, but that is one area where he did a great job. I'd hope that he spends a lot of his time advocating for Africa and doesn't stay political in any way.

Maybe she was being ironic? Not in the least. She did one of those horrible ass angry symbols reserved for aol messaging that I refuse to type cause they are lame. She is a democrat who was pissed when he beat out Hilary. I figured it was maybe cause it was a man beating a woman candidate was the reason she was pissed then. Nope, she just didn't want a black man to be President. And damn, so what happens to all of the marriages? Are they banned now or are they still legal? What's the deal with that? That's fucking tragic if they nullify all those marriages. So if this BS passes, can one of those Liberal Activist Judges we always hear about come along and fix things.
