  1. Yeesh. I took your advice, and now I will not be taking your advice again anytime in the near future. What a vulgar, disgusting movie. In a bad way. Torture porn disguised as an action flick. *buys* This seems like one of those movies that's more fun to read a plot description of than it is to actually watch. See also: everything Troma's ever done.
  2. Belle De Jour I knew I wanted to take a Buñuel movie at some point but I could never decide which one since they're all so equally brilliant. I finally settled on taking the one with Catherine Deneuve lookin' super foxy in it.
  3. SeeqPod - Playable Search
  4. Sweden is producing some awesome stuff right now EDIT: V Seeqpod playlist moved to separate post because I suck at HTML shit V
  5. I just think it's weird/sad that ppl in the movie forum here spend as much/more time talking about how much money some stupid blockbuster is going to make this weekend then actually engaging with and discussing movies themselves. It just seems like such a pointless, dead-end endeavor.
  6. Yo I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Sony Pictures isn't going to hire you just because you put "Correctly guessed #1 movie in America five consecutive weeks on internet forum forums.thesmartmarks.com" on your resume.
  7. Hey I think I finally "got" Another Green World. I've had it for like three or four years now and always thought it was pleasant enough or whatever but, man, listening to it right now with crickets chirping outside my window it's all just clicking perfectly and it's like my eyes are WIDE OPEN for the very first time in my life.
  8. And did you know that the PCA once ruled the exact opposite, in response to the the 1945 sex edusploitation film Mom and Dad? To the response that the subject matter was justified because it was educational, they ruled that movies were purely for entertainment, and had no business teaching us anything. Oh yeah, I just out-snobbed your snob friend right in his snobby face. Snob Snob Also anyone who thinks the purpose of art should be to impart some kind of lesson or point is a didactic retard still clinging to an antiquated belief in the power of the author to control the message of the work and thus shouldn't be listened to anyway/
  9. I don't really feel like trollin' the movie forum so I'm just going to say this here: People who spend time analyzing/thinking about box office numbers and who don't actually work in the movie industry are fucking weird as shit. I literally cannot even begin to comprehend how someone could bring themselves to care so deeply about something so meaningless.
  10. Music and TV (well, HBO) have been pretty great this decade. Everything else has been shit.
  11. Hahaha look how naive you are. Non-white wealth is an illusion no matter where you go. White hegemony is pervasive globally, it's just hidden better in some places then others.
  12. I don't know how I'd feel reading a book about an internet person written by another internet person. I really don't think it would impress the cute baristas at my local Starbucks very much at all.
  13. godthedog's next pick is The Iron Giant. My pick is 8 1/2 Not quite as good as La Dolce Vita but still a world-beating masterpiece. Easily the best "meta" movie ever.
  14. I think part of my problem with Girl Talk is ideological. A lot of it seems like an effort to re-contextualize mainstream rap and pop music to make it more palatable for people who don't enjoy it on its own terms. I realize that disliking an artist due to the perceived/imagined biases of his audience is totally retarded, but here we are. EDIT: I will concede that "No Diggity" over is pretty cool. Too bad he doesn't let it ride out for longer than like 20 seconds.
  15. Was Special K the dude that flipped his lid when people called Stephen King hacky in the Book Recommendations thread?
  16. Why? When it's done right sample-based song creation can be just as artful/worthwhile/interesting as "traditional" music (cf. The Avalanche's Since I Left You, which is maybe my favorite album ever). Also, I don't really like Girl Talk. The whole enterprise leaves a sort of sour taste in my mouth for some reason.
  17. Artificial Intelligence: A.I. A seriously underrated movie that might actually be Spielberg's best (or at least his most complex/interesting) work to date, as well as his most misunderstood. People who say that the ending is overly sentimental pap are totally missing the point. Also, godthedog is out of town for the weekend and asked me to make his selection for him. He picks Lost Highway.
  18. Don't underestimate Kevin McHale. EDIT I'm not sure about that. He wasn't completely set when Douglas-Roberts left the ground and CDR did his best to avoid jumping right into him. Also, he flopped like a huge pussy.
  19. Flavor Of Love might legitimately be the most abhorrent thing to ever air on television. Shit's basically a minstrel show.
  20. Journalism has been shit for nearly the entirety of its existence. The "Golden Age" of Murrow/Cronkite/Woodward&Bernstein was really more of an aberration than anything.
  21. And with a face like a dad listenin' to Steely Dan, you can sleep on the plane or review what you said. When you're drunk and the kids look impossibly tan you think over and over, "hey, I'm finally dead."
  22. The Eagles are only a hop, skip and jump away now. Soon you shall wear the bottoms of your trousers rolled. Youth is lost...forever.
  23. Well shit I did the Blonde on Blonde thing in that other thread I might as well do this too 1. Kid A 1a. "Motion Picture Soundtrack" 1b. "How to Disappear Completely" 1c. "The National Anthem" 1d. "Idiotheque" 1e. "In Limbo" 2. Amnesiac 2a. "Life in a Glasshouse" 2b. "Morning Bell/Amnesiac" 2c. "Like Spinning Plates" 2d. "Pyramid Song" 2e. "Hunting Bears" 3. OK Computer 3a. "Exit Music (For a Film)" 3b. "Paranoid Android" 3c. "No Surprises" 3d. "The Tourist" 3e. "Karma Police" 4. Hail to the Thief 4a. "A Wolf at the Door" 4b. "I Will" 4c. 'There There" 4d. "Myxomatosis" 4e. "2 + 2 = 5" 5. The Bends 5a. "Street Spirit (Fade Out)" 5b. "Planet Telex" 5c. "The Bends" 5d. "Just" 5e. "Sulk" Interesting Note: The HttT list is probably my favorite out of all five of these. It's just too bad that the rest of the album is so stunningly mediocre.
  24. Is there a minimum # of performances requirement for that because based on raw numbers alone Renée Maria Falconetti beats both of them. 100%!
