  1. I don't know what I'd do if I had a last name like McGarrigle. Probably go into the recording business, too. I'd imagine it's pretty difficult to make an honest living with a name like that. McGarrigle.
  2. Hey Slayer, I'd just like to thank you for keeping a close eye on the different "posting styles" of various members here. Have you thought about compilling your research into an easy-to-use guide of some sort? Like a "TSM posting styles" wiki, or something. That'd be real helpful.
  3. Nah. A lot of those in-shape soccer moms are quite a bit more attractive than Fergie.
  4. I actually thought the Zuckerman-centric stuff at the beginning was was the most interesting part of the book. It was when he fully switched over to telling the Swede's story that I started to lose interest.
  5. I was actually looking for a messageboard geared towards intelligent African-Americans. One small typo lead me here. Haha,
  6. I don't think I "get" Philip Roth. I found American Pastoral to be pretty dull (except for that part where he uses absurdly florid prose to describe a girl sticking her fingers up her cooter. That was cool). Portnoy's Complaint was really funny in places, but I though it was kinda slight overall. Maybe I'm just not Jewish enough?
  7. I dunno, bro. Putting a quote about yourself in your signature is a pretty obnoxious thing to do.
  8. Neutral Milk Hotel - "Two-Headed Boy Pt. 2"
  9. The hyperdefensive crouch that all of the Boardum people assume when someone insults one of them or The Pit is pretty amusing.
  10. But having your post count set to a negative number is basically the same thing as (and maybe even worse than) getting banned. So it all works out in the end.
  11. I used to feel that way. I mean I liked "Losing My Edge" and "Beat Connection," but I never really saw what all the fuss over the two "Yeah"s was about and the full-length left me feeling a little cold. But 45:33 is just miles beyond anything else Murphy's done thus far and blows pretty much everything else in electronic/dance music out of the water in terms of compositional breadth and creativity.
  12. That Decemberists album was really disappointing and kinda not good. For the first time a lot of Colin Meloy's tics felt forced and unnatural. Also, someone really should have put a stop to those misguided/embarassing attempts at prog-rock and metal. Oof. Anyway, my list: 1. Clipse - Hell Hath No Fury 2. Joanna Newsom - Ys 3. LCD Soundsystem - 45:33 4. The Fiery Furnaces - Bitter Tea 5. T.I. - King 6. The Knife - Silent Shout 7. Lily Allen - Alright, Still 8. TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain 9. DJ Drama & Lil Wayne - Dedication 2 10. Liars - Drum's Not Dead Honorable Mentions: Belle & Sebastian - The Life Pursuit, Ghostface Killah - Fishscale, Hot Chip - The Warning
  13. That's certainly something to be proud of.
  14. I read Mallard Fillmore every day. Bruce Tinsley always tells it like it is and really sticks it to those ivory tower liberal elites.
  15. The only Oprah Book Club book I've ever bought is Anna Karenina. Luckily the Oprah logo on that was a wrap-around sleeve that I was able to easily remove before making the purchase.
  16. The Royal Tenebaums reminds me a lot of Infinite Jest for some reason. Maybe it's the tennis.
  17. Diary Of A Madman shouldn't be allowed to have Wire shit in his avatar/sig. The show deserves better than that.
  18. From what I've heard of it it doesn't seem to be the total shit-brick that a lot of people seem to be making it out to be. It's definitely not up to the standards of the Reasonable Doubt/Blueprint/Black Album troika, though. In related news, the Jay-Z/Nas collaboration "Black Republicans" finally hit the net today. It improbably lives up to just about every expectation you could possibly have for it. Goddamn.
  19. I wonder what happens if you accidentally send that to an ugly girl.
  20. Wait. How has this thing gone two pages without a single mention of the 'Ignition' remix? Does anyone even care about the non-remix version of that song?
  21. That 12-minute remix of 'One Blood' with 24 rappers on it that came out yesterday is pretty great.
  22. that girl is pretty cute.
  23. Is it just me or is that actually a depressing break-up album? It seems pretty obvious to me but I haven't read a single review that even mentions the possibility. They're all just like, 'Oh there go the Friedbergers being crazy and wacky again!'
  24. I kinda like that album. "Slavin' Away" might be my favorite Fiery Furnaces song.
