    Royal Rumble 2009

I joined a Facebook group with a Royal Rumble drinking game, wherein a discussion of the best rumble match ever took place. First poster: 1997 Second: What about 92? First: Maybe 95. Third: When Mysterio won! 2003, I think? Me: '92, and 2008 was surprisingly good Fourth: Tirade about how bad 2008 was. Lengthy case for why 94, '02, and '04 were so much better. 95?!

Things that Amuse or Please You

I just had this conversation on Christmas Day. In lieu of gifts to one another, this year for Christmas, my mom's side of the family exchanged gifts on behalf of World Vision. We all agreed how awesome they were on the phone, then my uncle and I kind of reached the same conclusion: It's kind of sad that we're so accustomed to poor phone service and general problems that we're so thrilled to receive good service. Given how long I've been in retail, I've come to take exceptional pride in my customer service, so maybe I'm asking a little too much. Still, the "God Bless You" at the end of the call, even though I'm pretty well atheist, was heartwarming.

    The current economy

And why is the girl hitting on him at the end, instead of what I believe would be one of dozens of rappers she adores? I'd also like to offer a guarantee: "Rapper so aghast" has never been said or written anywhere in the world until yesterday.

I had the same thought when I was looking at Amazon yesterday. Similarly, Canadian Tire has a special buy on a 40" LCD. It's only 1080i, but it's $599, which is a steal. But the brand is Hisense, who I have never heard of. My google result yielded a site from Australia. I suppose I could look into it a little further, but Australia? That's unsettling.

My folks have a similar model. The colour reproduction is phenomenal, it's one of the best SD engines there is, but sports are incredibly noisy, almost like watching a snowy analogue signal. Still (I didn't click the link, I'm assuming), the LED bulb lasts, obviously, vastly longer than a traditional DLP. That is a really good deal, though, even if 61 inches seems like way too much TV for me. Edit: I suppose the 120hz could correct that problem quite a bit.

    Tennis Thread.

In Leena's defence - I'd have really liked to hear her comments on the Wimbledon final last year. Plus, she was a contributor to the golf threads.

    Royal Rumble 2009

I'm incredibly excited for tonight's show. As a buddy and I discussed yesterday, even as little as I watch wrestling nowadays (and that's been the case, for the most part, for 3 or 4 years), I always check out the Rumble - it just has such a great 'event' feeling to it. I always look forward to the show itself, of course, but having supper and a few beer with the boys, along with our pool each year - awesome.

List things that don't interest you

Watch Hardcore Hockey Talk on The Score. (Or Drive This, which precedes it). The vast stupidity of fans is bad enough, but it's multiplied by a constant stream of text messages.

I don't get that commercial; why is the rapper so aghast by this alleged pizza boy? Is there a more stereotypical pizza guy?

Sorry I couldn't find a better picture. Bacon goes with fucking everything.

    95% of wrestling fans

Absolutely; Come on, how many times have wrestlers insulted fans on the mic by insulting their local team? Tellin' me 95% of the crowd doesn't get it?

    Finish Him!

Even though the mark in me prefers technical wrestling and storytelling, for me, the key to a great finisher is the ability to hit it out of nowhere, as opposed to working over an arm/leg/etc. to build for it. So, I'd say my favourites are RKO and Diamondcutter. Tell me you didn't think DDP had the title won when he reversed the Jackhammer into it, ditto for Orton-Taker at Wrestlemania 21. There's kind of a middle tier between those, in which my favourites include 619 and Stone Cold Stunner.

46-inch set at the same price? I would offer to eschew the four inches and take the advantage of 1080p.

    NHL - January 2009

I agree. He probably could have garnered a first-round pick last season (he's been the Leafs best player, save Sundin, since Belfour left), but his stock has dropped considerably. He looks panicky, fighting the puck, every single time I've seen him this season.

    Facebook or MySpace?

Me too, CG got me into that (damn him!). We're even for the city game a few years ago. Facebook, but it's a winding road. I remember getting MySpace somewhere in 2006, after I was implored to share pictures from a night at the bar (the previous time, I had to burn 6 cd's! Photobucket would only allow one upload at a time - it was probably my fault, but I never bothered to learn). I was on MySpace off and on for a little bit until early 2007, when someone I went to high school with sent me a invitation to Facebook. Then, a few weeks later, someone I didn't know, but apparently knew me (probably from seeing me work at Wal*Mart for so long) invited me. I held off for a few weeks, then finally caved, and got hooked. I remember prefering MySpace (I liked having 'entrance music'), but I tried to log into MySpace in late 2007 and couldn't remember my password. Since my password for everything is either one of two similar things (in the same vein as Carter93, or WorldSeries93) - I figured my inability to remember was an omen, lost interest, and haven't looked back.

I agree in principle, but that's giving the general public a little too much credit; I think it's tough to really appreciate how dumb, lazy, and/or careless people are as a whole. The PR for the DTV switch has been phenomenal. "Not a single word of warning!" "What about the leaflets from the space shuttle? The Tv commercials? And the two weeks we spent at DTV camp?" "Not a single word of warning!" On the other hand entirely, I'm a little surprised that at least a few advertisers and corporations didn't band together to try and fight the switch a little. Even with all the word of warning, the idea of losing up to 20% of my target audience is a bit unsettling.

I didn't see much of Hedman during the WJC, but he seems like the, or at least one of many, answers for the Sens.

    NHL - January 2009

Have you reverted to the mindset now of "Every Sens loss is a Sens win"? Most Leaf fans I know have, but my buddy who's a Senators fan has sent me a text message every day since Thursday saying "Cinderella story, the Sens make the playoffs".
  22. Yeah-huh! Get it? I'm both agreeing, and suggesting a use!

    WWE Raw - January 19, 2009

Despite the little focus on the Rumble in the last Raw beforehand, tonight's angle has led me wanting to see the Rumble and Raw next week far more than any "clusterfuck melee, what's gonna happen Sunday" possibly could have. Fantastic, fantastic ending.
