  1. I don't like basketball but I can appreciate the emotion in big games and memorable calls that follow. Any golf fan will tell you the same thing. The post is called 'That stick in your mind', not 'things that only the Czech Republic likes'. To each their own, dickhead. I can't believe I didn't put Joe Carter's on there....It's on my top 10 sports moments, with obviously, everything else I've mentioned so far...even 1992, isnt on there, however. Daniel Igali kissing the Canadian flag at Sydney in 2000 usurped it.
  2. Be they funny, appropriate at a major moment in sports history, or even bad or depressing? The two in my signature do obviously, but there's four that really stick out to me: 1986: Jack Nickalus strokes a putt to take the lead on the 17th at Augusta on Sunday...."Maybe? YES SIR!!!!" 2002: "SAKIC? SCOOOOOOOOORES! THAT'S GOTTA BE IT!" Bob Cole when Joe Sakic made it 5-2 Canada in the Men's Olympic finals. 2003: Mike Weir from 94 yards at the par 5 fifteenth at Augusta on Sunday...David Feherty "Find a spot, take one bounce, skid to a halt...That looks like it could be the right spot, OH CANADA!" The sheer hilarity of Feherty in general, coupled with the apt timing and the pride I was feeling as a Canadian and left hander really makes that one stick. If anyone's seen the official Augusta highlight film from 2003, they really play up that Mattiace had finished at seven, not eight under, unbeknownst to Weir, who has the five foot birdie putt to tie. DF: This to take the lead. Jim Nantz: Weir doesn't know that. DF: YES! 3 to Play and we have a tie. JN: The birdie ties him with Mattiace, but he doesnt know that. A second roar, however, occurs when Mattiace's score is posted. It tells Weir that this tournament is entirely within his grasp. I swear, even writing this, I'm getting goosebumps. 2004: Nantz again, when Mickelson makes the putt that enabled my avatar picture. "Is it his time? YES! AT LONG LAST!" As happy as I was about Mike winning in 2003, I'd been pulling for Mickelson to win a major for a long time. Weir was never the 'best player never to'....Also, I'd had Phil in my pool 3 straight years. My avatar was also my most recently shed one-manly tear. Feel free to share.
  3. I'm not an atheist, nor agnostic, but I don't believe in any kind of organised religion. Not opposed to it, it's just not for me. However, I do believe in the Christian ideas of "love thy nieghbour' and the Christian concept of heaven and hell. I can't imagine not believing in anything, but that's just me. My concept of heaven is exatcly what makes you happy, in my case a repeating day of breakfast, the last hour of work(a combination of satisfaction of fulfilling a job and the feeling of release from work), a round of golf at Augusta National, lunch, some video games, some beers, a little tv, playing my guitar and dinner and bed with my girlfriend. Hell, it seems to me, isn't the torture it's made to be, with the violence and what not.....just all kinds of little pet peeves that really irritate you.
  4. Like the Poison song, "nothing but a good time", um, yep. Maybe the is more apporpriate after the Poison reference... Thank you, im genuinely flattered.
  5. Hmm.....Bible thumpers say God hates homosexuals....Doesnt this same Bible say to love thy neighbour? Seems a little conflicting there..... There's a reason I don't believe in organized religion, you know....
  6. I was going more for the fact they were great leaders.....Why did you italicize Norris? I'm not talking about the mismanaged NHL, today's NHL. I'm talking an ideal, properly run league....yes, with a cap......But you don't think Regina could handle a 20 million dollar bill over the year? Even with luxury boxes, season tickets, advertising and tv money? I can't be the only one who thinks Regina could do it. Fine....but the division winner deserves some kind of kudos....and 16 of 21 teams is absurd.
  7. A pizza can feed a group of 4......I read it as Powell too, actually.
  8. Men on a Mission.....any incarnation of Viscera has been tough to look at.
  9. I agree.....the novelty probably would wear off....We get excited over them now because we see them, what, once a year tops? Yep. There'd be a lot more heart in games.....maybe more trapping too though. Gary has actually done a lot of good, but he's bad on the whole...The franchise start up fees the NHL gained were astronomical, which is why they continued adding....A lawyer being money grubbing and greedy, who would have thought? just kidding. Scoring needs to be up to market the game in Nascar areas....Most hardcore fans of hockey will watch a 2-1 game.... Now, I can't believe no one has thought of this, but nine new teams since 1991. That's 180 skaters to 9 goalies.....thus, teams become a bit more watered down...I'm not saying there's not 180 good skaters in junior hockey/U.S college, but it is stretching it pretty thin... As for the teams, I've brought this up before on a different thread. Canadian Conference-Trudeau Division Ottawa Toronto Halifax or St. John Quebec Montreal Canadian Conference-McDonald Division Vancouver Calgary Edmonton Winnipeg Regina American Conference- Lincoln Division Buffalo New York Boston Hartford Philadelphia American Division- Kennedy Division Chicago Detroit Columbus Minneapolis Pittsburgh Potential expansion: Hamilton, Victoria, Washington, Milwaukee Division winners get a bye, while first and second runners-up play one another....I've always liked the idea of a division champion.
  10. Well, I didn't really bring it up.... So how bout hockey, eh?
  11. And as for the 60 grand comment, that's the kind of stupid communist attitude that keeps every other country in the world behind the United States.
  12. who fought Doink at WM IX. ...who got bashed in the head by a chair 25 times at Royal Rumble 2000 in a WWF Championship match with The Rock...
  13. Chapelle has been good in just about everything, save You've Got Mail....even after having met my girlfrined online I can't empathazie with that garbage.... Yes, he was good in Con-Air, and I do think he'd be honoured to be in Robin Hood, Men In Tights, although, as mentioned, it isn't really his style, but he was still funny in it. A Black Sheriff?!?!? As for out of place celebrities, Alex Trebek at Wrestlemania seems about right.
  14. I never said jack up the prices..I'm refering to if there's a cap...I'm sure the players wouldnt mind playing less games, how often do you see watered down playoffs because these guys are so beat up? If there's a cap, owenrs know how much money is coming in and going out, and quite frankly, most owners are pretty well silent partners anyway...Does anyone remember when former Bolts owner referred to then rookie Vince Lecavalier as 'The Michael Jordan of hockey' If there was a cap, ticket prices could theoretically stay fair, because the owners would make a profit because player salaries would be sensible.. Obviously, by the way, I don't think any player should make millions a year(everyone in the world could live comfortably on 60 grand Canadian a year), but I've accepted the player salaries won;t change, at least to the point of being like guys like you or me.
  15. Stanley Cup, perhaps the most cherished prize in sports
  16. CNN=Certainly Not News.....A little news, human interest, Hollywood, sports, wacky news.....repeat. Gotta support the troops, whether or not you believe in the cause they fight for...My buddy and I argue ever Rembrance Day(also Nov. 11) about my wearing of a poppy. He says its a war monger thing to do. I disagree, citing my year-long hatred of war, but that we should appreciate what was done for us...It's vicariously the same thing when the newscasters fell in line before Iraq.
  17. Not necessarily the best, but most important? I'd say Jesse Owens, honestly. Four gold medals is phenonenal under any circumstances, but to do it with Hitler watching, is unbelievable. I think it would have been incredible if any non-Aryan had done it, the fact that he was African American is only money in the bank. What do you think?
  18. Incandenza, get a sense of humour....though I migh retract my statement when I recall the Married with Children bit. Nothing on that show was not funny.
  19. What happens in each? The only title I recognise is the Dixie one....
  20. I'm jealous of my buddies with their DVD collections, but I can't really afford the roughly 50 Canadian for said box sets. The Freakin Sweet Collection caught my eye, but I'd like to know which episodes are included....can anyone fill me in?
  21. Clearly, Conway's finest hour is his role of Barnacle Boy on Spongebob...even if Ernest Borgnine does steal the show each time...
  22. Im terrified that this movie will be Hollywoodized.....i.e happy ending with Americans being victorious....how historically accurate is it?
  23. Not necessarily.....a bj seems enough to get the boot.....So look for The O'Reilly Factor to be canned, maybe I'll see Pat Buchannan flipping burgers sicne they both blow Bush every time they open their mouths. Simpsons reference. One of the better episodes.
  24. 1.) Favorite world title match at the PPV? Can I say the 92 Royal Rumble.....?If not, Rock/Foley in 99 2.) Favorite Rumble match? 92, 94 or 97...98 was pretty sweet too. 3.) Favorite Rumble match elimination? Lesnar/Hardy 2003 4.) Favorite mini-match within the Rumble? None I can really recall 5.) Favorite non-world title, non-Rumble match? Benoit/Jericho 6.) Favorite pre-Rumble promo? I marked out when Tatanka did the stereotypical native scream in 1994. 7.) Things you hated besides Vince winning the '99 Rumble? I actually liked it.....I was bitter when HBK won twice....I liked Austin at the time, but didn't really like that he won twice either.
  25. WHAT IF.... Eric Lindros, Phil Esposito and Patrick Roy were never traded..... Demers hadn't called the illegal curve in 1993.... Cherry had 5 men on the ice in 1979... I have the book in question, albeit it's in my car, currently in the shop....all of the above are answered, and a few more, which I can't remember. RedBaron and the night crew guys at work managed to spill hot dog garnishes on it in, unbelievably, two separate incidents. Also some great topics to discuss, both fun and serious: Which was more important: Summit Series or Miracle on Ice? Best Clutch Player Ever? Best Sutter? Best Hair?
