How was it dumb when it was likely the only way Vince would let him out of the contract ?

I'm guessing it was down to them being intent on pushing a slew of new guys, one of which was Edge.

Diehard fans of a promotion, any promotion, can get OTT with their reactions. While there are undoubtedly ROH fans like that, as there are WWE fans, NJPW fans, etc, it's inaccurate to make it seem like it's only a problem with ROH fans.

Ken Shamrock was meant to wrestle Jarrett, but missed his flight, because, IIRC, it was delayed. But Edge was still booked for the PPV title shot...how did that come about? Or was it just pure randomness in the booking? Edge was going to get the title shot anyway. And, because he was going to lose anyway as well, it made sense to put him in in Shamrock's place. He was going to lose to Jarrett at the PPV anyway, so they could afford to have him win the IC Title to make up for Shamrock not being there.

I read that letter and laughed a lot. For all the good points he makes, the guy writing the letter just comes off as being incredibly bitter over a 'struggling Indy' beating out WWE in the WON Awards.

You could have had any medium to top level WWF name jump, and it probably would have been booked in the same effective manner. The point is, while Nash was part of a huge money angle, he specifically didn't draw. He never has. I have to take issue with that. In the Outsiders you had a recent WWF World Champion and a guy who had one of the most memorable feuds of all time (Razor vs HBK). They had a lot of mark cred at the time, and I doubt any other midcarders of the era would have made the impact those two did. Maybe not initially, but Eric would have been so orgasmic over having, to the casual fan, 'stolen' WWF talent, that he'd have booked them just as strong, to show Vince was wrong to let them go, that they'd have still gotten over huge.

The Eilers KO was hysterical. It's like his body didn't know he was knocked out, and it took a second to register before he finally fell. Evan Tanner was incredible with the way he hung in there. Terrell had that guillotine on for 20-30 seconds, and he had it on tight, but Tanner just refused to quit and managed to fight his way out. And when Tanner was G&P'ing the shit out of Terrell, it was quite the sight to see Terrell covering up, and not knowing what the hell to do.

I can't see WWE being insane enough to put Lesnar under a no-compete clause for that length of time. It would never stand up in court.

It was the nWo angle that drew, not Kevin Nash. While he was part of an angle that drew, he himself didn't. Kevin Nash, on his own. didn't draw a dime.

Once the WWF dodged the bullet in regard to getting cancelled by USA. After that, it was only a matter of time. WCW was so rife with backstabbing, politicking and a sea of huge ego's, that it was just a matter of time before it all imploded. It wouldn't have mattered if the nWo angle was booked to perfection, all those ego's would have self-destructed sooner or later.

At the first HIAC and at WM XX, you can see Shawn blade just before he gets catapulted into the air. He does it the same way back at the 2003 Survivor Series as well.

When Bret was on Off The Record in early 2000, he told the story about Vince being wired and there being SWAT team members watching on, and he said he only found out when one of the members told him about it.

PPV time is paid for in 30 minute 'blocks'. If WWE had gone over the hour, even by one minute, they'd have had to pay for the full 30 minutes, and that would be just for the live airing; the replay would have needed an additional 30 minute segment, which WWE would have then had to pay for as well. Any subsequent airings could have been edited to avoid that extra air time they'd have had to pay for.

Wrestling Observer Live were talking about the Death Of WCW book, and this question was asked, and I think it would make for a good topic on here. At which point did you think WCW had gone past the point of no return, and that it was hopeless ? Another question asked was when you realised Vince Russo didn't have a clue about wrestling ? They weren't talking about his creativity, but his actual understanding of wrestling. For me, I felt WCW had gone past TPONR when Russo reformed the NWO for the 174,454th time. At that point, it was clear that Russo was both clueless about wrestling, though the virtually useless 32-man World Title Tournament made that clear two months beforehand, and was obsessed with reliving the WWF in WCW, which was a doomed concept. As for Russo having no clue about wrestling, the aforementioned World Title tournament didn't help, but also the pointless interference in the Chris Benoit v Bret Hart match at Mayhem made it clear he didn't get it at all. And what made it clear he didn't know, understand or care about the WCW audience was on the Nitro relaunch in April 2000, when he said his aim was to beat Vince McMahon at his own game. First, you cannot beat Vince at Vince's own game. Second, if people want to watch Sports Entertainment, they'll watch the WWF. And thirdly, WCW fans don't want that anyway. They want a product totally different to the WWF product, but Russo didn't care. And if the guy in charge doesn't care what the fans want to see, and just puts out what he wants to see instead, it's hopeless. What about the rest of you ? When did you think it was all over for WCW ?

Oddly enough they were both originally supposed to be Owen Hart. Wrong on both counts. The GG was always going to be Hector Guerrero, and the person who would turn out to be the Higher Power wasn't decided upon until almost the last minute. They didn't have anyone in mind when they came up with the gimmick in the first place. Mick Foley and, for some insane reason, Steve Austin were considered for the role, with Foley turning it down because he felt it would make no sense for him to turn. They only went with Vince because they had no one else they felt could fit the role, even though it didn't entirely make sense for Vince to be the Higher Power anyway.

I understand that Kane/Taker will fast Snitksy and Heidenreich at WM but why are WWE fucking it up with having these four have the same match repeatly? With them wrestling each other so often, they will, in theory, be able to work out a better match. So, instead of a _**** affair, it'll just be -**.

Somewhat. Rock's feet weren't meant to touch the ground at all, but they did, so had to make an angle out of it. So had Rock's feet not touched the ground the big Show/Rock angle would not have taken place, thus we wouldn't have got all four McMahon in the main event. Sounds good to me. No, the four-way deal would have taken place anyway. It's just with Rock's feet actually touching the ground, and them having a shot of it, they were able to go with that as part of the angle. If had Rock's feet not touched the ground, they'd have just got there some other way.
