New Japan to withdraw from Dome Shows after 1/4
Dangerous A replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in General Wrestling
This is really sad news. The Dome was to NJPW what MSG is to WWE and now both promotions have lost their big arenas. Just a sad time in pro wrestling in general. I wonder how Stu and Co. are going to keep spinning this in the future because this can't be seen as anything but bad. -
Did you see the other 2 Punk/Joe matches and what did you rate them?
-
I heard a recent convo with Meltz and Bryan Alvarez where they said that this year seems similar to 2002 where Kurt Angle won Wrestler of the Year not so much because his matches were **** or better caliber, but the field was so incredibly weak and Angle's matches were usually the best of the night for WWE's big shows that he kind of just got the sympathy vote more than anything. That is sort of how this year seems except Joe is putting on **** caliber matches, but he isn't a household name or real draw right now.

Easy marketing T-shirt slogan would be "Born Again-Christian" They absolutely HAVE to have that used. I should trademark that or something.
-
Believe it or not, there is a case to be made that with the news of Christian hitting the 'net, this show is just as important, if not more so than BFG because you are going to get a bunch of people who want to see how Christian debuts and exposing them to the rest of the roster. If they end up having a shitty show, you could be turning off a batch of potential viewers. If you have Christian debut that doesnt' suck and have blowaway matches, you may have yourself some momentum to build on.

Who is the 2005 Wrestler of the Year? Yeah, there's still 2 months left in the year, but that doesn't mean people can't start making cases right now. And right now, I'd have to say Samoa Joe. He's just having killer matches right now. Behind him would probrably be Kenta Kobashi or Jamie Knoble. Kurt Angle will almost always be mentioned since he hasn't missed any significant time. I have to give a shout out to Mistico since Lucha doesn't get any play here. He not only has great matches, but is THE draw right now in Mexico. Make a case.

The buzz for Christian on the Net is hot. Imagine if Benoit were to be rumored to come in. I need Benoit to come to TNA for many reasons, but there is one huge reason I want him to go there. Chris Benoit vs Samoa Joe. Nuff said

Bingo.

Thing is, the 700 or so people at the Hard Rock seemed like 7,000 because they were given 3 bad ass mutherfuckin fights. However, if one or two of those fights would've sucked, the venue would've played a much bigger role in how it all looked.
-
They need to give Christian at least 5 minutes to vent and let everyone know where he is coming from.
-
If any show deserved it, it was that one. Just a blowaway show. Now UFC just needs to work on getting a better venue because the Hard Rock isn't going to cut it anymore.

Jericho's contract ran out, so he doesn't have to worry about a 90 day no compete clause. That only effects wrestlers WWE releases that are still under contract. It's why Christian can show up this sunday.
-
Is Nigel McGuiness on the show officially yet? I know they were considering putting him on versus Joe, but Nigel was booked overseas, then Nigel cleared it, but then they booked Joe for Survival X. If Nigel shows, that is going to rock.

I'm leaning towards Haas. Christian is a maybe. It won't be Jericho or Lesnar. They are too big to waste on a surprise pop. If any of those 2 come in, they would promote it to help the buyrate. I'm not sure if Christian falls into this category which is why I have him as a maybe. Haas is most likely, followed by someone not thought of like Matt Morgan.

Just placed my order for the DVD. Can't wait. Also, HTQ, how did you rate Punk/Joe II?

Ok, I've watched all the way up to the main event tag, but I have some questions and I'd appreciate if someone can give me "logical" answers to. When did Bischoff get the power to start making Smackdown matches? Aren't Bischoff and Long feuding? Why would Long agree to have a Raw guy wrestle his champion? This entire scenario makes no logical sense from a feud standpoint. I was listening to Figure Four Daily and they brought up a good point about logic gaps in the heel ref match tonight (and almost all heel ref matches that have ever existed) They said that Masters had a bear hug on either Cena or HBK and that Davairi asked whether the guy wanted to submit. Why did he even ask him? Why didn't he just lie and say that he submitted? He's a heel ref. His whole intent and purpose is to help the heel team cheat and win. What better way to do that then lie about whether a face submitted in a submission hold? The one time this worked was when Bret Hart was in the sharpshooter at Survivor Series in 97 and Vince said "ring the fuckin bell". Worked like a charm.(and yes, I'm taking into account Vince wasn't the "official" referee, but he supercedes them because he's the fuckin owner) Note to wrestlers in the heel ref matches in the future. No submissions unless that is the finish. It's a huge logic gap.

If any of you get the chance, catch either Sportscenter, ESPNews, or NBA TV for highlights of the Heat vs Nets. Vince Carter fucking dunked the fuck out of the ball all over Zo Mourning. Zo's team got the last laugh because they got the win, but Carter did some Dominique type shit on Zo tonight.

If he had the money, I'd give it a maybe as well but unless they start getting real creative about the cap, they can't do it. Plus, Snyder worships the ground Gibbs walks on and if Gibbs is a no, so is Snyder.

That match was not in a position to do anything except take the crowd down before the big matches. You could've stuck almost anything in that slot on that show because everything was so over, it wouldn't have mattered. My problem is when they bring in nostalgia acts and they get the respect and recognizibility pop, WWE mistakes this and thinks about keeping them around, which is a mistake a la Hogan. Hogan pops a crowd and is good once in a while, but he wears thin and is only good in doses now. Giving second rate guys like Goldust their 4th shot isn't helping anyone. I just can't believe they have guys like Shelton Benjamin on the roster and they are jobbing him out and he doesn't even get on Raw, but there's fucking Goldust on my screen. Sometimes, I hate this company.

Mick and Stephanie didnt really settle their issue. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No. Just no. Talk about a waste of Foley's time and talent. I'm not saying you are wrong because this is very plausible, I'm saying from a critical standpoint, this is very off turning.

Well, he isn't playing again this year. You have to look to see if anyone has the money and have coaches and personnel who will put up with him. Just in the NFC East Cowboys- Nope. Parcells would probrably attempt to strangle him before training camp ends. Parcells couldn't stand Antonio Bryant and he is a choir boy next to TO Redskins- Nope. Gibbs wouldn't put up with his shit either and his number one rule is don't embarass the Redskins off the field. TO would violate that before the season started. Giants- Nope. While Coughlin might be the most likely to give a guy like TO a chance, they just signed Eli, Shockey, and Burress to huge contracts and probrably don't have the money. Anyone else think there is a fit for TO and an NFL ballclub?
-
TO is too good, someone will take a chance at him. The Raiders isn't that far off since Al Davis could give two shits if you murder babies, just so long as you are contributing to winning football games. It's not like Norv Turner has any control over that team anyways.
-
I just picture TO as King Lear and Freddy Mitchell as The Fool, his only friend at the end of the Shakespearean tragedy.
