I live in the town the originated from...when 75% of the population here hates them, they don't have longevity...a 20 year old can pick up a Beatles album and love it, can you say that 20 years from now for 311? their schtick is old and tired...don't get me wrong I have a few albums, but in 20 years I won't be poppin them in to relive my youth...what kills them for me is SA, drop him and have Nick Hexum doing more singing than rapping and they'd be a lot better... Really? You think SA is the problem? I love his lyrics, his delivery and his higer singing range. I think Nick is the problem because he's the one that has cornier lyrics and he lacks the "umph" that SA brings to a song. I speculate that part of why people love their earlier albums better than the later ones is that mic time used to be shared equally between the two, and then from "Soundsystem" on, SA's involment has sort of slipped to the background. As a result, we get Hexum overkill.

The Toadies--Their first album was great, it was a shame it took 6 years to put out a second and they had a meltdown. Snot--One of the best metal screamers I've heard. They ran with the Ozzfest crew, so you could have imagined them getting huge when nu-metal did. And Sublime isn't really all that great, but they appeal to stoners, so I guess that's why they're revered. And I wouldn't call 311 "never-weres", they've sold millions of albums, each record went gold, their self-titled went triple platinum and "Transistor" went platinum. They've also had many songs/albums break into the top ten two number 1 hits ("Down" and their cover of "Love Song"). Their fan base is large and loyal. They've already been doing this since 1990--they already established their longevity.

That was my favorite one.

Bush promotes measure against gay marriage
Skywarp! replied to EdwardKnoxII's topic in Current Events
*Reads NoCalMike's Article* What the fuck is with the gay marriage opponents...it's almost like they're just plain irrationally AFRAID of gay people. -
They went on tour with 311? Like the cheesy and excruciating rocker ska metal band? Oh man. Hah, to me they're one of the best, but yeah, the same 311.
-
I hope to see them when they open for 311, and come out after Medeski, Martin and Wood on the tour this summer. I hear the Roots and MMW are great, and 311 is my favorite band, so this might be the show of the year for me, especially if i gain two new favorite bands out of it.

They release the same games every year, so of course that's how they get you to buy the next one. I'm just waiting for some whiz-kid to start making unauthorized roster update patches to eliminate the need.

Bush promotes measure against gay marriage
Skywarp! replied to EdwardKnoxII's topic in Current Events
Which is why I am in favour of gay marriages. The Bible is a moral code, not a legal one. I don't believe in legislating stuff based on morals. I do not agree with the gay lifestyle, but if you want to marry a member of the same sex, then that's your business and the government and everyone else should stay out of it. In the name of putting myself in flaming danger for oversimplifying the issue, I believe the answer is merely this: There IS no good reason to outlaw gay marriages. The problem is that there are people that just care way too much about what other people do as personal business and what they do in their private time. They care WAY too much about what goes on in gay people's bedrooms. Gay relationships, to them, are vile and a "threat" because the people threatened are just grossed out. They can't grasp that a decent and equal person would want a lifestyle that differs from their own. Of course, it's more complicated, but when you shovel down to the very core of this problem, you'll find something like that. -
With the exception of the PSOne era graphics and the repetitive hero missions, I like this game a lot. And yes, jumping from high buildings is incredible. It makes me wish the World Trade Center was still around--scaling that would have been fun. And getting to the Statue of Liberty would have been easier.

Student/Teacher relationships pre-college, no matter which gender is the educator, almost always seem to get found out. Either the student is bragging too much, or another is jealous and blows the whistle. There's no way you could be 14, doing that lady, and then not tell the world.

I used to work at the Wall music stores. We had computer databases where you could search by artist, album title, or even song title. Sometimes people would come in and say, "I heard this song, I think it goes something like..." and then repeat one line of words. One lady even said "I think it was called, 'I Love You.'" I looked at her like she had elephantitis. Sure enough, the return on a search of songs titled "I Love You" were in the multiple hundreds.

It's too bad, though. I hate when people get replaced mid-franchise. It tends to ruin the illusion. I wouldn't just have the person disappear, either, because now you have to rework the script with an explanation as to why. Though the X-Men movies are the only ones I think I ever liked with Berry.

"Eternal Sunshine" is good because it's one of those movies where you debate what the lesson was when it is over. An open-ended movie can be incredible when done right. I find that the Onion's reviews of movies and music say everything that needs to be said in a half-page of words. They truly have a mastery of the language.

Careful, this is the logic that led us to fund groups that would later be our enemies.

The world is still treating Andrew W.K. as a joke, but I love his albums. The world also tends to hate post-Pinkerton Weezer, but I like them just fine. I also like the Presidents of the United States of America.

For Soul Asylum, I always liked "Want Somebody to Shove" and "Runaway Train" was ok, but I remember not being able to stand that "<something> Incorporated" song.

1. Down 2. Flowing 3. All Mixed Up 4. Amber 5. Come Original 6. Beautiful Disaster 7. Creatures (For A While) 8. Do You Right 9. I'll Be Here Awhile 10. You Wouldn't Believe 11. Transistor 12. However, all songs have been tweaked, making them sound better.

Eh, say what you want, but the simple truth is that 311 isn't comparable to flash-in-the-pan bands: they have just passed their 14th year as a unit with the original lineup in tact, and the number of diehard fans has grown from when they fisrt started and never saw a significant dropoff. That's a lot more that can be said of these veterans than the majority of others who are fat reflections of their old selves, holding on to hits from over a decade ago (see Jaxl's sig) or reduced to touring every hole-in-the-wall pub and teeny venue like the hair metalers of yesteryear.

No, they just fell off the radar. They have a pretty big discography: -"Music" (1993) -"Grassroots" (1994) -"311" (1995) -"Enlarged to Show Detail" (VHS/DVD rockumentary and bonus EP) (1996) -"Transistor" (1997) -"Omaha Sessions" (A sampling of their three early demos; only available through the website) (1998) -"Live" (A sampling of live recordings) (1998) -"Soundsystem" (1999) -"From Chaos" (2001) -"Enlarged to Show Detail 2" (VHS/DVD rockumentary and bonus EP) (2001) -"Evolver" (2003) -"Greatest Hits '93-'03" (A singles compilation featuring new tracks) (2004) And, on the way: -"3-11 Day 2004" (A Double-DVD set. Most years on March 11, the band goes to New Orleans, where the mayor officially declared 3-11 to be a holiday, and plays what is approximately a three hour, eleven minute set. This year it was a five hour set.) (Oct., 2004) So no, they never disappeared, they have seven major-label LPs in eleven years (the longest time between which would have been "Transistor" and "Soundsystem"). Sorry for my exhaustive list, I'm a 311 superfan, as you've probably guessed. I just didn't list their demos because I was unsure of the release years, haha.

Have you guys heard about the tour? 311 has two openers: The Roots and Medeski, Martin & Wood all on one bill. I would love to go, but I don't think circumstances are going to work out for me.
-
Besides "Down," "All Mixed Up" and, I suppose, "Love Song," most of their stuff has been on the mid-level of exposure. So unless you were specifically seeking it out, most people probably wouldn't know a lot of their singles/videos. They aren't as high-profile as, say, Linkin Park, so their stuff doesn't get as much rotation. But from time to time, you may have heard some of 311's promoted singles on the radio, or in the background to a movie or TV show. For those that do recognize most tracks, this would probably be a good buy.

You guys are forgetting this awesome part of the "Cops" scene when the knights were chasing the good guys riding Donkey as a steed: "We're in pursuit of a white bronco".

Probably the biggest conspiracy theory site I've seen is What Really Happened. They have an expansive 9/11 conspiracy theory, the main points of which are that a 747 would have done much more damage to the Pentagon, and that the WTC collapse went off like a professional demolition's implosion. Edit: the portion I speak of actually links to another site.

I actually thought that game was pretty overrated. So's "Goldeneye" -=Mike I would say that it falls more into the "time hasn't been kind to it" category than "overrated".

Did you beat "Decisions, Decisions" yet? I haven't touched the offline mode in a while, so I still haven't.
