The Dio stuff isn't what I call real Sabbath, moreso just curios for those who want to hear the best stuff after Ozzy. Here's the top 10 songs as I see it, and I'll try to include most Ozzy albums: 1. NIB 2. Paranoid 3. War Pigs 4. Iron Man 5. Children of the Grave 6. Snowblind 7. Killing Yourself to Live 8. Hole in the Sky 9. Sympton of the Universe 10. Junior's Eyes I tried to include something off every CD with Ozzy. I just couldn't think of anything off Technical Ecstasy that was truly ESSENTIAL stuff though.

The Chavo stuff has hurt Eddie no doubt, but I'm baffled as to why they took both belts off him. I thought it was just to get him primed for a world title shot, but that hasn't happened. I'm guessing that Eddie wanted to be a nice guy and help get Chavo over. Not really blaming the bookers on this one. Chavo and Eddie have done good stuff together in the past, but this time it's not clicking. To be honest I don't think Eddie's heat has diminished. It's just that he isn't DOING anything. If he was tossed back into a title scene I bet he'd be the most over guy on SMDN with no trouble.

For some reason I just think NE is getting lucky. They are seriously not that great. I wish the Chiefs played TN, NE, or Indy so we could get a look at them against a good opponent.

1999 was a good year wrestling wise up until roughly when DDP won the title. After Spring Stampede the company just had no clue what they were doing, and to be honest didn't even try. It's shocking to believe the same company put out the stuff from the Summer of 1999 that put out Spring Stampede 99. I will actually say that Hogan/Sting wasn't the fall of WCW, nor was the whole Hogan/Nash incident. True, these were awful and politics ridden matches/incidents but by and large WCW's ratings and buyrates weren't going down the toilet. No, I will narrow it down to when they changed the Nitro set design in April 1999. DDP had just won the title and a lot of people were just bewildered as to why they would go in this direction. So they have him vs. Sting in the first hour of Nitro, and Sting beats him clean for the title. Everyone was like "Thank god they got it off DDP." And then the SAME SHOW they book a 4 way where DDP spent the whole match dicking around in the crowd protesting and then he snuck in to pin Nash to win the title back. From there we got DDP vs. Nash and then the whole hummer angle, etc. If you wanna know who to blame....blame DDP.

Anyone else notice the stuff about RVD in this interview? He thinks RVD should have won the title by now. So let's finally put to bed this whole thing about "Angle hates RVD."

Surprised no one pointed out an error in this article. It said the Matrix made 281 million, which is nowhere close to being true. Reloaded did make that much though.

LOTR: The Two Towers Special Extended DVD
cabbageboy replied to The Dames's topic in Television & Film
I keep hearing how sad that ending is supposed to be but after reading it I'm just not feeling it. Spoiler (Highlight to Read): The whole concept of "going into the west" and the Gray Havens hasn't ever been truly explained to my satisfaction, so I'm puzzled as to why I would cry over Frodo going there. Why leave everyone, what does it accomplish? I can see Gandalf and Bilbo leaving since they are old and Gandalf's task would be complete. But Frodo? Dude, just go back to the Shire and get laid. You've earned it. -
What is all the hate towards Nevermind all about? Can anyone possibly deny its influence on 1990s rock? I didn't read each and every one of the 500, but what was In Utero on the list? I actually like it better than Nevermind.

I think HHH is actually sincere about wanting to help a couple of young guys.....he just won't help out the guys who are teetering on the brink of the main event.

LOTR: The Two Towers Special Extended DVD
cabbageboy replied to The Dames's topic in Television & Film
That's cool, Dames. I don't think I could take it though, man. Just going through TTT EE last night was exhausting. I can't imagine going to see the first two EEs and then seeing ROTK at midnight. I think I'd rather go to FOTR on Dec. 5, then TTT on Dec. 12, then see ROTK when it comes out. -
LOTR: The Two Towers Special Extended DVD

I saw a list that had the trilogy Tuesday info of all the cities but can't find it now. Just check out lordoftherings.net under the extended edition tickets and enter your zip code. I don't think there are any tix left for that epic Tuesday deal but you can see the first two extended versions in back to back weeks. Now, the extended Two Towers. I really enjoyed the hell out of a lot of this new stuff. The Boromir scene was one of the best scenes in the movie, not just the new footage. This scene did 3 things: 1. Showed Boromir under pressure from his dad (Denethor) to bring the ring back. 2. Showed Faramir's desire to prove his quality, hence his treatment of Frodo and Sam. 3. Introduced Denethor to the audience instead of waiting till the 3rd movie to introduce a major character. I also enjoyed Legolas and Gimli doing their final tally, that was great. Gimli was even MORE the man in this version. Also enjoyed some exposition scenes like Eowyn and Aragorn talking while he eats her horrible stew (who knew he was 87?? I was shocked), as well as Saruman and Wormtongue discussing if Aragorn is the heir to Gondor. I didn't like the Merry and Pippen stuff they added with the Ents. It really weighed down the 1st half of the movie I thought. None of these scenes were really needed and they are slow as molasses. If this makes sense I'd say the Two Towers was a better movie in the theatrical version than FOTR, but in the EE version I'd almost give the edge to FOTR. I thought the EE of FOTR seriously added to my knowledge of basic plot and characters, but here in TTT a lot of the extra footage (while interesting) wasn't especially crucial. -
LOTR: The Two Towers Special Extended DVD

Oh sure, I am going to see them both hopefully. Here's how it goes: Dec. 5-11 is FOTR EE in major cities. Dec. 12-TTT EE in major cities Dec. 17--ROTK everywhere. If you are truly insane you can go to an all day marathon of the first two EEs and then at midnight see the first showing of ROTK (Dec. 16). -
The 80s comment makes me bring up this scenario: The Islanders return to kidnap Lita's dog leading to an epic match on PPV with Lita and Christian vs. The Islanders and Heenan (who is wearing a dog attack suit).

Spoiler (Highlight to Read): Oh, I already made the Helms Deep comparisons earlier in the thread. But at least Helms Deep had major characters involved in the battle, the whole Zion battle had a "who the hell are these guys?" quality to it. Besides, there's no way that the Neo save is anywhere close to the Gandalf save in TTT. How could anyone not mark out big time during that moment in TTT?
-
I'd weep over this, but let's face it: STP hadn't had a decent album since about 1996.
-
Considering that there have been entire threads on the forum about the Christopher Lee/ROTK thing I didn't think it was really any kind of spoiler.

The LOTR movies don't have a summer movie vibe to them though. Perhaps it's due to it being a somber series for the most part, it's not really quite fitting for summer. It fits in later in the year, going to see it while you freeze your ass off in the winter, that kind of thing. Why would Harry Potter 3 have a huge buzz surrounding it? With the HP series I'm expecting the law of diminishing returns, perhaps not in terms of quality but in terms of box office. Now, given the news of the past week or so regarding Saruman I dunno if ROTK is really as surefire as we've been led to believe. As much as I'm wanting to love the movie, I already see some pretty glaring problems: Spoiler (Highlight to Read): 1. How exactly can they explain Saruman vanishing? Will they just say "Oh he's dead?" 2. If you don't have Saruman then it basically adds up to people now being forced to care about Sauron, which no one really does. I mean, Christopher Lee has had to carry the whole heel side of things in the first two movies. Viewers think Saruman = main heel.

I don't really know how they could shoot a happier ending to T3. The movie is called "Rise of the Machines" after all.
-
Oh yeah, I mean the Offspring are one of the few bands that I eagerly await to put out a new release. Hit That certainly isn't the worst thing on the radio, on the all gloom and nu metal "New Rock" station it sounded quite different.
-
The thing is, they didn't have enough guts to go through with the ultra downer ending. They FORCED this bullshit ending to try and seem happy and that's what kills it. The little girl and the Oracle act like all is well, the sun comes up, etc. Nevermind the fact that the Architect is still in power, the Matrix hierarchy scarcely changes, and all the human threats are neutered in Zion hoping the machines don't kill them. Compare this to T3 for example. In that film we have: Spoiler (Highlight to Read): Arnold does kill the Terminatrix chick, while of course dying himself. But all the attempts to stave off Judgement Day were futile and the machines do indeed rise like the title says. It was a very cynical and downbeat ending and was played as such. No bullshit involving John Connor and the chick watching the sun rise.

While driving home today in a thunderstorm I heard the new Offspring song "Hit That" on the radio. Who else has heard it so far and what did you think? Personally I thought it was ok, but didn't strike me as the holy shit type single in the vein of "Come Out and Play" that they need.

Orton getting a serious push right now is idiotic. Not only can he not remotely deliver the goods on the mic or in the ring consistently, the way he's been booked lately hasn't been strong. I mean he has basically been jobber bait for Goldberg over the past couple of months, got a screwy win over Shawn, and then jobbed to Shawn on Raw this week. I fail to see how any of this = main event. Batista at least has a look like "I'll rip your fucking head off." That said I don't think many OVW fans insist he was a better wrestler by far in OVW, but just that he had an infinitely cooler gimmick. Leviathan, Monster of the Ohio River....conjured up by Synn (bleh) as a demon who rose from the water.

Okay, I assume the Helms Deep ranting was over what I wrote earlier. Now, I'll admit that I don't care about the elf capt. who dies there and his death scene was given WAY too much sad music and slo mo. But besides him everyone else is at least a notable character in the series so there is some interest in whether they live or die. In Revolutions, yes Mifune is the man. It's just a shame he hasn't done anything else before this in the series.
-
Yeah, the ending was about as good given the horrendous crap that Reloaded got them into. After that movie you had to realize that nothing remotely acceptable (like Neo destroying the Matrix and freeing everyone) was going to happen. The Architect's speech doomed any hope of a feasible ending. I'm surprised no one has mentioned the "Trinity sees the sun" scene. What bullshit. I mean if there actually is sunlight then the machines could have used that a mile higher up instead of enslaving everyone for power. This little scene essentially contradicts the basis of the whole series! I dunno, I sorta enjoyed the movie as its own movie. It's when you put it into perspective that it truly starts to suck. As in not being remotely a satisfying ending to the trilogy.

BIG Return of the King News aka Curry not happy
cabbageboy replied to Lord of The Curry's topic in Television & Film
Again, in the book ROTK Sauron IS NOT an eye or a spirit. He is mentioned as having a body (Gollum mentions his 9 fingers, the 1 chopped off by Isildur). Let's face it, The Two Towers were run by Sauron and Saruman...if neither one of them is even shown in the ROTK then I think a lot of people will take a crap all over it. It defies the logic of "You go through the secondary lackey heels and get to the boss." Quentin Tarantino obviously understands this concept, since Uma Thurman will go through more lackey heels in Kill Bill 2 in order to get to Bill. Bill is quite a bit similar to Sauron really, a creepy unseen force who isn't technically shown (though Bill speaks). Face it, the vast majority of moviegoers will go in instinctively expecting Sauron and/or Saruman to be in the movie. It's impossible to not show EITHER in the movie, otherwise you're just left with a bunch of secondary heels like Mouth of Sauron or Witch King getting their orders from.....nobody.
