i think wu tang has resonated with so many people because of the real grimy dirty beats that really hasn't been seen in rap up to that point. most of the nyc shit had the hardcore rhymes but the production was sparse. infact, it was the rza's gritty soundscapes that essentially created a decade of imitators. addionally, they had some of the craziest characters in rap history with them. mcs who managed to parlay their wu tang successes into successful rza produced solo albums. the debuts of method man, gza, raekwon, ol dirty, and ghostfaces albums were all enjoyable. and they were all in the vision of 36 chambers. of course, with everyone focusing on their solo shit, the wu tang's collaborative efforts became overblown with second rate material. i'd even dare to say what wu tang did in the early 90's influenced some of biggie & nas's early works. and why do people buy gangsta rap albums? for some i'm sure it is the emulation of the lifestyle they glorify. for myself, it usually lies within the production. i prefer the harder rhythms that coincides with a lot of the commercial nyc "gangsta rap". likewise, what happened in l.a. with death row & dre, again, has a lot to do with the production. it has a lot to do with the funky electronic stylings that has been cropping up in mainstream pop music in this century. some of it is certainly influenced by dre. underground rap, for me, struggles because of its independent nature. while lyrically on point, not up to par aesthetically with popular hardcore rap music. how can you compete with the budget of a dr. dre, kanye, or pharrell? the neptunes spent several years to create the latest the production for the latest clipse album. pharrell has the time, money, and leisure to work on formulating a unique yet commerical glaze to spread on the album. independent or "underground" djs to not have the luxery of time.

i dont know much radiohead. but there is certainly a correlation between radiohead's acoustic singles from the mind 90's and some of coldplay's earlier singles. not so much their later ones, but yellow, come on, thats so radio friendly radiohead inspired. i think my hatred for radiohead grows by the day, by the way. i know, i am no fun. no one has mentioned any rap artists yet. weird. i'd even be inclinded to hear felonies opinion on this. snuffbox, you too.

    Paul Heyman sent home

vince is a moron. he just got lucky. right place, right time. now what is he? he's an idiot. vince's enthusiasm & entrepreneurial spirit fueled the inception of the company with wrestlemania, ect. that's when he was desperate to win over fans & become successful. the man hasn't done that in almost 20 years. he's self serving & spits in the face of the fans. anyone who makes up excuses, & attempts to rationalize how horrible a human being & business man he is is a moron. people (like myself) pump money into this assholes wallet. he's a total dunce. but goddamnit, i will buy that macho man dvd.

    Paul Heyman sent home

clearly the resurrection of ecw with heyman was another one of mcmahon's personal vendetta burials. he didn't have any intentions of sticking with what made ecw. he made ecw a wwe show. he didn't kill what ecw was, he simply extended his legacy as a largely unsuccessful business man. of course one could shoot my face off for such an idiotic statement, but honestly, vince has had wrestlings two boom periods handed to him on a silver platter. it was what hulk hogan & steve austin brought to the table that made vince his millions. had austin not come around, vince mcmahon would not have the revisionist genius nametag bestowed upon him. that company was awful for nearly 4 years after hogan's flame burned out. now that austin's flame burned out, vince is again mired in a horrible slump. the man needs to realise that he has to allow the talent to flourish without his cancerous fingerprints fucking it all up. the man isn't a genius. anyone who says otherwise has been brain washed. i, for one, want the man to bottom out as a wrestling company before he dies. preferebly homeless & destitute asking barry windham for spare change. ps vince; release a macho man dvd already,. god.

    Paul Heyman sent home

heyman going to tna would be just as big or bigger than angle. with only a pedestrian interest in wrestling nowadays, watching the wwe self-destruct is beautiful. granted i have fond childhood memories of their wrestling, but now its beyond awful. i actually am now wondering if tna has a chance. maybe?

    NHL Thread: It's December Now.

lets not go crazy. but with havlat coming back they shouldn't be lumped with the blues & blue jackets as the whipping boys of the league.

Comments which don't warrant a thread.

anything that requires to watch bono do anything is bad. a little too much ostentasious for my liking.
  14. ya right. come on. wrestling is all horrible. but not as horrible as this shockingly unoriginal & desperate rehashing of the first time this happened. it shocked. is anyone shocked at this? anyone who cares is a total fucking loser.

i still don't get it. i understand the messing with mechanics. but i'd at least give him an incentive-laden deal. of course, he may be demanding more money than anyone is willing to pay.

    clipse

opposite of jay-z. i wasn't a big clipse fan up until this point. they were fine but now they're on another planet. pharrell released so much crap over the past 3 years because he was saving up for this joint. certainly can hear his daft punk/cassius/ed banger leanings on the production. very spacey & danceable. almost in the spirit of spankrock's superb yoyoyoyoyo. i don't know how this will age but in terms of rap music, it has that rare & unapproachable vibe of blonde on blonde & london calling. not thats it as good (maybe it is) or that its a double album but that it sounds so unique & different that bob & the clash couldn't built on its greatness because they had plataued.

whats up with the markets disinterest in mark mulder? understanding that he's had surgery recently, ywo years ago he was considered a top 10 pitcher in the league. i can't believe there isn't someone willing to take a risk with him. like even .500 pitchers like randy wolf have been getting more pub than this guy. whats up? i have not heard one team linked to him in negotiations.

    jay-z

bloated. listen. i'm all for pop in rap. but it has to be inspired. there has to be an iota of sincerity behind it. gone is the grit. gone is the hunger. insert usher, beyonce, chris martin, ne-yo, ect. and thats not to say they're responsible for this albums contemptuous fallacy. jay has embarrassed himself by going through the motions and fulfilling every possible rap cliche. he's even sampling kanye's "george bush" rant which is as misleading as jay's own insufferable boastful declarations. he couldn't sit on the sidelines. he had to construct an album that is more in the vision of rihanna & the people he's been signing for def jam than for his legacy. he'll get his millions but he'll surely regret this abomination 5-10 years down the road. remember the blueprint? remember when he dropped the takeover? lush violins and orchestral production for the king of new york? cam'ron was right. who'da thought? rip hova.
