It was probably a penalty, but the refs had been calling a pretty loose game, and letting the players play. Add in the fact that the ref had to think.....think......think.....wait.......wait......and then throw a flag. If it was such an obvious call, throw the flag right away. If you've got to re-play the play in your head to decide, don't throw the flag, because there's a chance you could get the details wrong. Grrrrrr...... Should I even mention the bullshit call that led to the Miami field goal that sent the game into overtime in the first place? If they get that one right, the Buckeyes would have won before that call was ever made.

This is the thing that pisses me off about that damn lawsuit. Especially since THQ appealed the "you have to get rid of the logo" crap for the video games and won...maybe Vince is too stupid to appeal that part of it?

Because Jim Cornette owns the footage and is technically on the WWE payroll?

What exactly happened here? The Browns were driving down 5 (I think). They got a first down, spiked the ball, then the referees said they were going to review it. They literally spent five minutes reviewing it with everybody except the referees wondering what the hell was going on. As far as anyone knew, the Jags coach wanted intentional grounding called for a fake spike because Couch appeared to double clutch. Instead, the pass that got the first down was ruled incomplete, and since it was a fourth down play, ball to Jacksonville and game basically over. And Browns fans threw shit on the field (which I don't agree with, but fuck them if they're going to change the rules in midstream). The replay showed the referee looking at his buzzer as Tim Couch was spiking the ball, which was apparently close enough. THe referee said "I thought I was buzzed in time."

AMEN to that! It also cost Cleveland a shot to potentially go to the playoffs. Needless to say, the fans were not pleased. The fact that the NFL didn't so much as slap the referees on the wrist for that one made it even worse. The fact that the exact same play happened in the Bears game a couple of weeks before that...where they got it right and it went against Cleveland...made it even worse that even worse.

SmackDown from JHawk's Beak (1/8/2004) It's two, two, two rants in one. Feedback it. I'd ask the non-wrestling feedback be kept to e-mail, but that might be futile.

We had Lawler, JR, and Vince up until Montreal too.

38. The first wrestler to go for the pin when the referee is knocked out will lose. 39. If the announcers make a big deal about the time limit, the match will end in a draw. (This is even more true now, since time limits are almost never mentioned.)

Riot at Peurto Rico show yesterday night
JHawk replied to LucharesuFan619's topic in General Wrestling
The story I got from the Puerto Rican News website (I get their newsletter and the address escapes me right now. prwrestling.com, I think) is that one fan in a blue shirt threw something toward the ring. Security tried to eject a different fan (one wearing a white shirt), and his buddies all took offense to it and got into it with the security guard. A mess no matter what actually happened. -
That might be it. I remember this question being asked on another thread and that was the answer given, IIRC. It was definitely Bonnie Blackstone. An interesting side note to Missy Hyatt in the WWF: She worked one TV taping hosting a segment called "Hyatt House" that was apparently supposed to replace Piper's Pit after Piper's retirement at WrestleMania III. That would have been WrestleCrap worthy.

I missed that part. Are you trying to imply that the Yanks put effort into the Series this year? Or are you just saying that in general? In general, mostly. Hell, if the Yankees could have hit even .200 with runners in scoring position, they probably would have won the Series this year.

Also bear in mind that with college sports, you're likely to root for your alma mater (if you are or have gone to college anyway) no matter their record. Hell, I went to Kent State University, and there is no way in hell they'll ever win a national championship under the current system. You expect me to root against them for that reason? I really do feel bad for you, AS. I mean, Dames is a diehard Yankee fan too, and I've never heard of him coming into one of these threads and going "We lost, so the entire season was a waste." My cousin's husband is a diehard Yankee fan and he gets disgusted when they're not playing well, but he doesn't bitch and moan because they didn't go 162-0 and run the table in the playoffs. Be mad at your team for playing like shit and losing, that's fine. But if you want to be mad at your team for doing their best and still losing, then try out for the goddamn team yourself. You seem to want it more than even Steinbrenner does, and we all know Steinbrenner doesn't accept losing either. Oh, and to get to the actual topic, yeah, fans like that suck, Damaramu. I'm one of those fans who will bitch when my teams play like shit and don't play hard, but when my team plays their best and still loses, it's not that big a deal. Any given team on any given night and all that.

I'd agree with all those. I'd also add that Blyleven won most of those 287 games playing for mediocre at best teams, and if they take that into consideration he ought to be a shoo-in.

Hey, with K-State's shitty playcalling after the clock fuckup (which is bullshit, I agree) they probably didn't deserve to win anyway. But we'll both agree they should have gotten their full allotment of time.
-
It already has, Karter
-
I knew someone would try to pull that shit. The clock bit was bullshit, I grant you. But before you bring up the pass interference thing from last year, don't forget that Miami got a bullshit call that set up their game tying field goal that forced overtime in the first place. How convenient of everybody to forget that one.

Well, first I tell them that we're all out of beer and bratwursts... Oh, wait...
-
All this fun when three teams finished with one loss. Aren't you glad Michigan beat Ohio State to prevent a four way controversy over this?
-
Best game ever?
-
I'm glad Ohio State pulled it off, but I wish we had that 10-12 seconds back to get a real finish.
-
And as you watch this, aren't you real happy Michigan beat Ohio State to prevent a four way controversy in the BCS standings?
-
I'm an Ohio State fan, but whoever is in charge of that fucking clock had better get their head in the fucking game! Win or lose, I don't want it to be tainted!
-
OU also beat Oklahoma State. Who I believe was ranked in the top 25 at the time and was going in to today's game. They also beat Alabama. I'm not sure what there ranking at the time was but I believe it was 22. OK, that's one-third of the equation. Now where are the USC and LSU fans to back up their claims?
-
Here's a question I've been asking for since the end of the Big XII Championship game and I've never gotten an answer to it. OU destroyed #5 (at the time) Texas. They got destroyed by #13 (at the time) Kansas State. Who else did they play that was so damn tough? And I want rankings (current AND at the time if possible). If you can tell me that, maybe I'll buy into it, but the only two games I remember thinking OU was going to have trouble in were those two. Hell, I'll ask the USC and LSU supporters the same question, as this does go into the strength of schedule argument.
-
Bullshit. Division II does it, just cut off two or three of the damn cupcake games every team schedules and play the playoff before the Christmas break. It's a bs argument and I'm tired of it. But they aren't going to do that. Looking at the system they have now they'd have to completely overhaul it to do that. And NOBODY is going to do that. Yes it can be done. But looking at the system they have now, which is what Stoops was doing, it can't be done. But they don't have to completely overhaul it. Use the BCS system to seed a 16 or 32 team playoff. If you must use the antiquated bowl system, then make each playoff game represent a bowl game. What's so difficult about that?
