"Blood Ties" just aired on FX, and that was my first taste of Season 5 until the DVDs come out. Good episode, Dawn is kind of...ugh.

This is my first taste at all of season 5; pretty good so far.

 

Ugh, WHY do you have Riley in your sig??

Riley gets an unfair shake.

 

You have to look at him less as the guy who replaced Angel as Buffy's love interest...

 

and more of a study in a good guy trying to live in Buffy's world.

 

Where he starts and where he ends up as a result is one of the more interesting things they've done on Buffy.

My hate has nothing to do with him replacing Angel as Buffy's boyfriend because I never got attatched to the Angel/Buffy relationship since it was obvious it was doomed.

 

My hate for Riley is because his character was annoying and Marc Blucas isn't that great of an actor.

He was supposed to be bland.

 

Bland and Big.

 

Bland so he could be the most borish ordinary lame guy in the world (something that was absolutely NEEDED in between relationships with Spike and Angel)

 

and Big so he could appear physically capable of his role in the initiative.

 

Season 5 Riley's slow fall into madness was played very well IMO by Blucas.

Maybe he was supposed to be bland, but he didn't do anything for me.

 

Like Youth said, his acting was horrible, which made matters worse.

I disagree, I believe they should be in order.

I'm a big fan of checkpoint, it's just an all-round fun episode and then it ends with... "She's not a demon... she's a god" - gotta love Season 5 cliffhangers (oooh, another common theme for me to write about in the Season 5 review.... which will be done... sometime... before I die.)

 

RRR: 6 posts away from entering the Top 5.... watch your back BPS, cause I won't be for long!!

If I were to watch season 5 when it first aired, then I would of been like, what the fuck? But I knew that she was a GoD, so it wasn't much a surprise.

I still love hearing it. "God" is so, 'big', ya know? The master was a vampire, Angelus was a vampire, there were various mummies and wolfmen, the Mayor was a giant snake, there was Frankenadam and his Universal Soldiers... Glory was a God... Plus she was insane - which is a cool undertone.

 

The season is young Mole, the season is young. I'm pacing myself, you'll burn out by Xmas break...

I didn't really have a problem with Riley (or Blucas). I thought his exit from the series in "Into The Woods" was quite well done.

 

And on another subject, I just got the new soundtrack. The coverart is fairly cool. Just a subdued shot of the graveyard with a statue in the foreground. On the back, there is a Season Seven shot of Buffy, one of Caleb, and one of a stupid Bringer (WTF is that doing there!?).

 

The tracklisting is a bit different than what was originally listed. Michelle Branch is out, which is weaksauce as I wanted that version of "Goodbye To You", but Sarah McLachlan takes her place~! The Joss Whedon written Angie Hart track from "Conversions With Dead People" also makes an appearance.

This song kicks AYASS. Its the one that was playing when Darla and the vamps were approaching the Bronze in the Harvest.

 

And I hated Riley in season 4, I liked the character in season 5. They gave him real depth. he was just Initiative guy in season 4.

 

I don't think there is anything that I don't like about season 5 except the guy that played Ben.
