Guest Kinetic Posted November 28, 2002 Report Posted November 28, 2002 From the 69 Love Songs liner notes: Stephin Merritt: Reno Dakota is an underground filmmaker of my acquaintance with a great name. He made a wonderful documentary called American Fabulous, where he pointed a camera at his friend in the back seat... And so on. So with the questionable data found in the content of the song, I'm forced to defer to the inspiration behind the song. As a result, Reno Dakota is a man.
Guest Incandenza Posted November 29, 2002 Report Posted November 29, 2002 Ah, you have the whole collection with the extra notes. I took the alternate route, getting the three volumes over the period of a couple of months. I'm kinda bummed at learning this, as I was long fascinated by the mystery of the song.
Guest Phr33k Posted November 29, 2002 Report Posted November 29, 2002 actually that was performed by a band called left banke. (dude, you either must be really old or just know the good classic music) yeah, I'm 15, so that pretty much rules that there first one out. I have, however, listened to '60s and '70s music all my life. You know what song creeps me out? "Amanda" by Boston. It mirror sthe exact same feelings I have for somebody I know, and get this: her name is... you guessed it... Lorelei. No, it's Amanda, just kidding. Oh yeah, and "Ma Cherie Amour" doesn't contain the name of a girl.
Guest Sandman9000 Posted November 29, 2002 Report Posted November 29, 2002 Emily- Bowling For Soup Minus the parts about getting drunk and screwing all her friends, and hooking up with a model from Singapore, it mirrors EXACTLY what happened between me and a girl named emily, and how I now feel about her. Scared the shit out of me first time I heard it.
