I really did like WM18 its simple to play has wrestlers that I like and I destroyed all who challenged me. I believe it is a better game than Legends of Wrestling, a group of friends of mine rented both games and we played WM18 for hours and LOW for a few minutes.

I never got into the whole "No Mercy is the greatest game EVER~!!!" bit... give me Fire Pro D anyday... its much more fun and there isnt that wretched SLOWDOWN of DOOM~!!! (you can, however, speed FPD UP)

I like the Fire Pro games. Awesome gameplay in my opinion, and the best handheld wrestling game ever by leaps and bounds.

 

BUT...

 

1. The same graphics are recycled year after year.

2. The collision is really screwy. If you don't press the button at the exact correct moment your opponent and you knock each other down. The moonsault may miss if it isn't the moonsault designated to hit STANDING opponents--same thing happens with the other top rope moves.

3. No major gameplay enhancements. No weapons other than Pogo's move-embedded ones. No chairs. No tables. They've had years and years and sequels upon sequels to add this, but nothing doing. You can't even smash an opponent's head against the railing.

4. No Mercy allows you to edit costumes, Fire Pro doesn't unless you clone a wrestler already in the game, edit him, and save him. Sure, you can "retire" the original, but that's a lot of work and then you only have a measly single costume.

Speaking of Fire Pro, I just got Z the other day and I must say I'm disappointed. The graphics don't look as good as D - the sprites are smaller and there are ugly visible seams (yes, in a 2D sprite...), not to mention the regular old PS2 problems like aliasing. What's worse though is the sound. The crowd no longer counts along with the pinfalls. Why remove that? But that is not my main beef with the sound. The freakin' sound sample of the crowd loops every few seconds and it's really noticeable. This is extremely annoying, almost to the point that I don't even want to play!

 

Post match beatdowns are nowhere to be seen. Movesets are also outdated. Like Nagata doesn't have the Nagata Lock III, and Kea is missing the H5O. I saw someone on another board say that the whole Toryumon roster is just messed.

 

I wasn't expecting much at all from the game, basically FPD with some new animations (which are nice, by the way). Instead, we get this rushed title which just doesn't seem as good as its precursor which came out almost two and a half years ago.
