Guest TheGame2705 Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 There are only four people that make me watch Smackdown, Sable, Matt, Shannon, and Train. Train's usually getting beat and Sable does nothing of note. Shannon hardly ever has a match and Matt's the only one usually doing something decent.
Jobber of the Week Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 ^^^^^ Game: A-Train I could deal with, but Grandma Sable? Gah! Hardy's alright, and Moore only exists to bump around and we all know that. Remember kids, Vince and HHH were right. We were wrong. Actually, Smackdown HAS to be the more popular show. It HAS to be, because it has More Vince and More Vince = Bigger Rating..... RIGHT!?
Kurt Angle Mark Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 It's the writers/promoters fault, period. It's a shame that such a good PPV got such a horrible buyrate. Then again, it had a shit buildup for basicly everything. Exactly Also Raw had on paper as good a card as they could possibly offer. You had a Hell in the Cell match with Foley as ref, Goldberg vs. Jericho, and Flair vs. Michaels. While the Smackdown card was nowhere near what it could or should have been.
jester Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 Most of th eTV time leading up to it was for Hogan/Gowan/Steph and Vince. hogan quit and the rest put on a terrible buyrate. Hurrah! Seriously though...I've been certain for some time that people will not pay to watch Brock Lesnar be a face. Nothing he did during his face run changes that beleif for me. And up in here in Canada, they are STILL promoting McMahon/Gowen for all the house shows. They have prerecorded bits during Raw and Smackdown of Vince basically saying how is going to kick Gowen's ass (which he already did on PPV, so I don't know why it's supposed to be big deal), and usually a few cheap shots at the Harts thrown in. They need to encourage people to come to see the wrestlers. If they don't have any faith in them, why should we?
Guest BionicRedneck Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 It's McMahon's fault, obviously. He booked several matches that no-one cared about.
Lil' Bitch Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 I cared about most of the matches, I just hated the finishes.
Guest Anglesault Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 There are only four people that make me watch Smackdown, Sable, Matt, Shannon, and Train Ironically, Matt's often the guy to get shoved off SD! to fit Albert on.
Guest The Real Nosferatu Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 I'm sure since Vengeance was overall great, profit will be made from VHS / DVD purchases next month. I would mark out for a Sunny return. ::shudders nervously:: I hope you meant if it was Sunny pre-1998. Not Sunny now, even though she's not as bad as Missy Hyatt. I don't think ANYTHING is as bad as Missy.
Guest The Hamburglar Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 I personally believe the buyrate was rigged by an evil combination of Zach Gowan's rogue leg and Viscera, who colluded in a Royal Plan to somehow get revenge on Bradshaw's hair stylist. The imbalance in probability that allowed this to happen has been balanced up by Taker starting to randomly have good matches again.
Guest JericholicEdgeHead Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 Vengeance was only the 2nd PPV I did NOT buy in the past 5 years. I was NOT going to spend money on Vince vs. Zach Gowen and Stephanie vs. Sable and a APA bar room brawl..........and it looks like a lot of other people didn't either. As long as Vince pushes him and his family over 90% of the roster this company will go nowhere but down.
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 I can't blame this totally on Vince McMahon. Kurt Angle was featured in all the advertising. Kurt Angle's return was highly touted in the build to this PPV. Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar, The Big Show, and TWGTT were all given the ME's of 3 SmackDowns as well as a ton of interview time to get this match over, and they failed. Vince/Zach was just an added attraction. Kurt, Brock, and Show were the show.
Guest JericholicEdgeHead Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 "Vince/Zach was just an added attraction" The APA brawl was an added attraction, but Vince/Zach was built up and treated like a main event. If not why would so much TV time be used to hype a added attraction?? They even treated Steph vs. Sable as more than a added attraction...at least in my opinion.
RavishingRickRudo Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 But they gave away Kurt Angles return for free and did a HORRIBLE job building up his title chase (title chase? What title chase?). The majority of Smackdown was dedicated to the McMahon Family, go back and look.
Use Your Illusion Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 I'm sure since Vengeance was overall great, profit will be made from VHS / DVD purchases next month. I don't think ANYTHING is as bad as Missy. Tammy asking 'Are you ready, boys?' while stipping down to her granny panties on Nitro was enough to put me off eating forever. ...and that was THREE years ago. I shudder to think what it looks like now. UYI
Lil' Bitch Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 ::shudders nervously:: I hope you meant if it was Sunny pre-1998. Not Sunny now, even though she's not as bad as Missy Hyatt. I don't think ANYTHING is as bad as Missy. Of course, I meant Sunny pre-1998. But even with her looks today, she's still hotter looking than half of the Diva roster. I was NOT going to spend money on Vince vs. Zach Gowen and Stephanie vs. Sable and a APA bar room brawl.......... I had mixed thoughts, but the APA brawl turned out to be entertaining. Too bad Bradshaw won, I was marking out for the Easter Bunny. Vince/Zach was just an added attraction More like an added distraction
The Czech Republic Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 Vince/Zach was just an added attraction More like an added distraction HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...no
Lil' Bitch Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 There's something wrong when a match like GOWEN / McMahon gets hyped more than the main freaking event!
The Ghost of bps21 Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 There were 3 Vengeance commercials that ran throughout WWE programming advertising 3 matches. 1. Angle vs. Lesnar vs. Big Show 2. Vince vs. Zach 3. Stephanie vs. Sable. It was McMahonMANIA running wild all over Vengeance. And I know that I for one was real excited about the Brock/Angle match...until they added the Big Show. It turned out good...but didn't exactly make me want to order.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 It doesn't really surprise me that it did a shitty buyrate. Maybe if Benoit/Guerrero, Angle/Lesnar/Big Show and Greatest Tag Team/Animals got more air time. You know advertise actual wrestlers and stuff they might've been able to at least crack that pesky .50 barrier.
King Cucaracha Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 Vince won't accept the blame, niether will Steph, and the ME had some McMahon Golden Boys in it. Someone strange will be blamed. Somehow this is Jericho's fault. No, it's Gowen's fault. Well, it is Gowen's fault. God, thank you AS. Here was me thinking it was Vince and the booking team's fault for not building up the main event well and putting the emphasis on the Gowen match. But all along...GOWEN was the one who put out the advertisements. Probably filmed them as well to make himself look good. Well THANKS AS! I was starting to like Gowen again now he's in the midcard, but you're here to keep reminding us all to hate the one legged guy. Thank god you're here.
Guest THE MIGHTY THOR Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 The #1 guy should get the blame , yes i'm looking at u Brocky.

Here was me thinking it was Vince and the booking team's fault for not building up the main event well and putting the emphasis on the Gowen match. . Gowen was the one who despite having most of he promotions hype machine and a top star push (presented as equal to Angle/Brock/Show/TWGTT) couldn't get enough people to care about him. And when about 45 minutes of the two hour show and half the PPV hype is centered on you, you sure as fuck better get more than a tepid ass reaction. That's why the Angle 2001 face reign is such a disaster. He failed to get the crowd behind him as top face. Blame the writers all you want, but at some point part of the responsibility falls on the wrestler himself. And Gowen failed. If the show was built the same way but more people cared about Gowen, the buyrate would be better.
bob_barron Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 The #1 guy should get the blame , yes i'm looking at u Brocky. I think the match with all the hype and airtime should get the blame. I'm looking at you Vince
Guest OldSkoolNWA Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 People, I am suprised at all of you, everyone is trying to figure who the WWE/Vince?Steph?HHH are going to blame for the low buyrate. Well, that's simple. It's the internet fans fault!! It's always our fault! We are the reason people don't wildly cheer every move HHH makes. We are the reason people cringe every time Steph starts to speak/wrestle/or even get in front of the camera. We are the reason all of Vince's great ideas haven't worked - HHH, Goldberg, NWO, HBK, HHH, Gowen, and his biggest idea - HHH. If you don't beleive it's our fault - just ask HHH, after all, in Vince's, eyes he knows everything!! Damn! I love having this much power!!!! http://home.comcast.net/~oldskoolnwa/
{''({o..o})''} Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 As a counterarguement to that, there is such a thing as a over push. Angle in '01 was pushed to hard without the fans having reason to buy him as top level then. The same is true with Gowen.
syxx2001 Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 Well, wasn't the Vengence promo on Bad Blood centered around Kurt Angle? With that "Tell them this is my life" stuff?
RavishingRickRudo Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 The WWE didn't really help Gowen by making him "the living-inspiration"
{''({o..o})''} Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 Thank you RRR, You said my point better than I could have with amount of sleep I have'nt gotten.
RavishingRickRudo Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 But they didn't *do* anything with that commercial in regards to television and storylines. It was the "Brock and Kurt Homosexual Hour feat. the Big Show". And it didn't even get an hour.
RavishingRickRudo Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 ...and your sig scares me more than any clown or sock puppet.
