The One and Only Smackdown! HCTP Thread

Recommended Posts

There's always a followup, if not on PS2 then for PS3.

I think he was more meaning what exactly that follow up would be.

Personally, I could see Smackdown: F-U

...come on, how could Vince NOT resist naming a video game that?

Wrestlemania Arcade was CRAP, plain and simple.

I know I'm old school, and maybe even a stick in the mud, but after the fun that was Wrestlefest, to even look at a Wrestlemania Arcade machine made me a little bit ill.

As for HCTP, there isn;t much variation in the storylines at all, then again I am using CAWs exclusively. I like how you have to go through the game three times in order to get your CAWs how you want them, though bringing up Low-Ki was the hardest out of them all.

Now that I have gone through the story mode like, eight times, I started focusing on the exhibition matches. I have to say that I love the EC match, and the slobberknocker is fun, if a bit too easy, like it was in JBI.

Which brings me to another note: is it me, or should all the finishers in the game be more of less equal? There is a list of about 7 or 8 finishers that provide a near instant kill, almost irregardless of when they are used in the match. I find myself wrestling old-school, setting up moves that work on the area that the finisher will damage, getting them at least orange before going for it (then again, playing on Smackdown level, its smart to build up two smackdowns, because more often than not, your first attempt WILL be reversed). But when you get hit with SDs and the area turns yellow, more often than not, you will get pinned.

Also, submission holds are WASTED on Smackdown level. I have had opponents busted open, gone for a submission hold to the head and hit the buttons like a madman, and it does not work. That's another thing to be tweaked by THQ. I like having to earn a submission, but when your rating is a 9.5, the area you're attacking is in the red and the hold is locked in, and the meter is not going in your favor no matter *how* fast you hit the buttons, that's a problem.

I don't see how HCTP could RUIN a PS2. I mean, unless the game contained some sort of virus that fried your PS2's CPU.. then isn't this nearly impossible? And if this IS happening, then how come there haven't been any reports or news releases about it?

That said, HCTP has run fine on my machine. I don't even get this "wierd noise" that I see people talking about...

What are you talking about? It's been reported.

I've only ever seen it mentioned on this board. I've never read a news release or a statement of any kind from Sony nor an article on any gaming site. I'd love to see one if they exist, though...

I haven't heard anything about it either, and I have owned the game since the third week of december... it works just fine for me, and my PS2 pulls double duty between games and playing DVDs.

Yeah that's annoying, I don't think there's any point even trying to get a submission victory on SD difficulty.

If you have it as a Smackdown, its a good thing, since you can score a pin off of it, but that's about it... it should be tough on that level, but not impossible.

I get submission wins all the time. Just hit all 4 buttons rapidly.

On SMACKDOWN level???!?

HIGHLY unlikely.

No I just meant in Season. I'm too much of a puss to play on that level of difficulty in exhibition... but anyway...

What's the deal with Michael Cole wrestling at Mania? Is there some angle that sets this up I haven't seen yet? A season ago I was off the card, to I played the tag title match (??? and Hawk vs Champions), and was surprised to see ??? as a fairly good (move set wise) Michael Cole. I won the belts and of course they were not defended at all until the NEXT Mania. This time, it was Michael Cole and Hawk vs...... Michael Cole and Matt Hardy. What a dream match!

I'm tired of the female manager storyline because it doesn;t go anywhere past the blowoff.

Actually, I had Stacy Keibler come up to me just before my match at WrestleMania and tell me to "be careful" and that she was "always by my side" or something to that effect. I also had her in my stable, though, so I don't know which one was the cause of her talking to me. It was pretty cool, though.

On Smackdown level, if you really wanna make someone tap, go for a submission move that doesn't require the grapple meter.

Either that or wear them down just before with some chair shots. It's just about possible to do it that way.

Any suggestions? So far I haven't seen any matches end that way. Which moves would qualify?

I've finished matches with Triangle Chokes and Figure Fours in the past. Don't know what other ones would work though.

Mandible Claw is by far the most powerful submission in the game, and it has no grapple meter. It's an instant win if their head is red, or even yellow for lower level guys.

In the next game, all submission holds should get the meter treatment, but maybe vary degrees of damage inflicted with them depends on the "strength" of that hold, coupled with the damage previously inflicted on the body part the submission hold is attacking, modfied by the attackers and victim's Submission rating...

Kevin Nash has a NASTY submission hold that turned one arm orange while it turned the other yellow. Ouch.

They should show a little bit of accomplishment to the wrestler for getting through that storyline, as the manager vs. wrestler match can be hella hard, depending on the opponent.... maybe if they gave an option for the manager to come down to ringside, or even an addendum to the wrestler's splash screen.

One of my favorite things I discovered about SYM, was that if your wrestler possessed the Cruiserweight, Tag, IC and WC titles at once, they called you a Grand Slam Champion. Little things like that make a game worth playing over and over again.

Sounds like gangrene. I didn't know lethargy was contagious. ;)
