godthedog 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2003 let me join in the bitching about the 'seven samurai' dvd. forty fucking dollars. if i'm paying forty dollars for a dvd, it better be LOADED with all sorts of cool shit on it (like 'in the mood for love' or 'contempt'). not even a 2-disc set, and there's nothing on it but an exceedingly dull commentary. granted, it's hard to think of stuff to talk about for 3 1/2 hours, especially when you didn't make the movie, but the damn thing isn't even up-to-date. criterion just took the commentary done for the laserdisc back in the early 90s/late 80s (when mifune and kurosawa were still alive), and pasted it on the dvd. screw you, criterion. i'm gonna go snuggle up with my fox lorber bare bones copy of 'ran', which is just as good and cost me less than twenty bucks. Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2003 Throughout the years, only 5 movies have been able to lay claim to being my ALL-TIME favorites...in order to the most favorite ever... 5. The Crow Possibly the best comic-to-movie adaptation ever. Sure, it didn't gross as much as Spider-Man, Superman, Batman, and X-Men did, but you know what? This movie has an edge over all of them. HEART. O'Barr wrote the original Crow comic to cope with the loss of his wife, and it shows, as each character is great, and everything makes sense (well, as much sense as a vengeful cadaver that can think and talk perfectly, not decomposed at all after 1 year, can make). A truly brilliant film that gets overlooked often by the naysayers that don't like the movie because of the hype, which is well-deserved hype. 4. The Evil Dead The movie that started THE independent horror trilogy. Great filmmaking, great script, great plot, and Raimi proves you can make perhaps THE most suspenseful horror pictures with only a shoestring budget, your best friends, and knowledge of how to actually make a movie. Fuck Myers, fuck Krueger, fuck Voorhees, and fuck Chucky. THE FORCE IN THE WOODS would make them all its bitches. 3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Action. Comedy. Great special effects that even hold up today. And lines that will take you years to fully understand (a good portion of the jokes are aimed at teenagers/adults, and when you see the movie at the age of 5, you miss them, much like my #1). What didn't this movie have? Gore, but you know what? That's fine. They make up for it with tremendous fight scenes that (in my honest opinion) rival any Hong Kong wire-fight, any scene from The Matrix, and any fight in any other movie. This movie deserves each bit of praise it gets. Unfortunately, the sequels aren't as good, but they're still enjoyable. 2. Aliens I don't understand why I love this movie, but I just do. Sigourney Weaver is one of my favorite actresses ever, and this is how the series should have logically ended. 2 movies was enough, but the 3rd and 4th had to come in and wreck the overall series. Sure, the 3rd was okay, but Resurrection? No. Just...just no. 1. Ghostbusters If I REALLY need to explain why this movie is so damn awesome, then you need to be shot. Guest ShamRock Report post Posted August 23, 2003 Taxi Driver The acting by De Niro is fuckin' amazing. The best performance I've seen in a film. The camera work, the direction by Scorsese. I just can't praise this movie enough. The Godfather The greatest cast I've seen on film. Brando, Caan, Duvall, and Pacino(although he was much better in Part II). Everyone in the movie really gave a fuck about. Coppola's best picture, IMO and of course one of the best endings ever.

Guest MideonMark Report post Posted August 23, 2003 Ok I really can't choose a particular favourite, so I'll just give a list of just some of my favourites, in no particular order- -The Goonies- LOVED this as a child, watched it again about a week ago and it is still seriously awesome. With Spielberg involved you know you're going to get something special, and thats what we got. -The Usual Suspects- Some people think its overrated, but this is possibly my favourite film. The ending is fucking brilliant and never gets old, no matter how many times I see it. -The Godfather- Yeah pretty obvious choice, but what the heck, had to include it. -One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest- Jack Nicholsons performance in this is one of the best I've ever seen. I loved the book and love the film even more. -The Good, the Bad and the Ugly- I've never seen High Noon or The Searchers, so can't really comment on this, but this is in my opinion the best Western ever made. -Heat- The 2 greatest actors of the modern era on screen at the same bah God time(granted that doesn't happen until 1hr 40mins or so into the film, but whatever). -The Shawshank Redemption- I have yet to meet a person who doesn't love this film. I's always in everyones list of the favourite films of all time and I had to include it here. -To Kill a Mockingbird- I read the book about a year or so and its one of my favourite books. I saw the film this week, and it is now one of my all time favourites. All the performances are great in it and theres just something about this film that I immediately loved. I could go on all night, but a few more of my favourites are, Full Metal Jacket, Glory, Casino, Road to Perdition, LA Confidential, Dumb and Dumber, Airplane, Some Like it Hot, Bugsy Malone, As Good as it Gets and Scarface. B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2003 B. Brian's favorite movie is Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It's so incredibly stupid and funny, but it's done in that intelligent Python fashion. It's brilliant in its stupidity.

The other Wes Anderson movies (Bottle Rocket, The Royal Tenenbaums), Shawshank Redemption, American Graffiti, Tremors and Election are also up there. And I could watch any Adam Sandler or Jerry Bruckheimer movie, except Going Overboard, Armaggeddon and Coyote Ugly, from now until the end of time.
