It's been just about ten years since I first played an incarnation of Street Fighter II. To this day, amongst my friends, I am unbeatable at the SNES version of Super Street Fighter II.

I think that Super Street Fighter II, the last incarnation in 16-bit, is the best fighting game for that platform, and best of the SFs. 16 great characters, better music for the most part (I would have retooled Zangief's stage to represent downtown Moscow or something as the Soviet Union was gone by '94), and a challenging game altogether. My only beef is a playable boss, they should have made Akuma be the final boss of the game. M. Bison sucks, and is easier than Sagat.

The reason I have such success with Street FIghter II is by using the trap offense. Like the Devils' strategy of the same name, the trap allows me to achieve maximum success with minimal talent. While some people are combo-crazy and like to show off, while others prefer a wide-open fight with lots of fireballs and such, I resort to cornering my opponent and unleashing a barrage of jump-kicks and throws over and over, allowing me a close-to-perfect or perfect win in an average of 12 seconds. Vega and Fei Long are particularly good with this fighting style. The only gap in this strategy, and it is a major one, is that if somebody can bust out of the trap with some move that hits me and knocks me back, I'm SOL. Sumo Bitchslaps, Shoryukens, and anything Blanka does can screw with me.

So let's discuss how we play this fine game. And if you say I'm cheap for trapping, I'm not as cheap as those bastards that sit there going "HadokenHadokenHadokenHadoken" all the time.

Ah, yes I remember when Guile was the king of Street Fighter before just about everybody became Shotokan bitches.

I have no clue where my Super Street Fighter 2 is, but I remember being quite good with Chun Li. I remember buying Super Street Fighter 2 the day it came out for SNES. Good times...

EDIT: Was there any way to fight Akuma at the end of the game, whether it be SNES or Arcade? I remember reading a game article years ago that posted pictures of it, but it claimed that neither Capcom or the magazine knew how to unlock the battle.

CHun Li? No good. I hated her. The only reason I ever used her was on World Warrior when there are only 8 people and no mirror matches, so by using her I could bypass the annoying China music.

BTW: Dhalsim's annoying elephants are so annoying to have while you're fighting, it inspired me to bail out of there with a 9-second/11-second Double Perfect.

I loved Chun Li's special double jumps using the walls. I could always set the opponent up for the special kick, too. Occasionally, I would use her fireball, too. I believe they added that move in for the Super version.

Despite that wacky wall-walking, I have no trouble getting a good trap against her. Fei Long on the other hand, just when I think I've got it locked, he lights his leg on fire and flies up, knocking me back halfway across the screen. Likewise: Guile and the Flash Kick.

I wish there was a foolproof method to beating everyone.

Akuma is not in Super Street Fighter II. On any version, SNES or arcade. He is in Super Street Fighter II Turbo, where he is both a hidden boss and a playable secret character.

Also, Super SF II is not the last incarnation in 16 bit or for SNES. Alpha 2 is out for SNES.

Yeah, I was replying to whoever asked if Akuma was in the SNES Super SF II.

Super SF II: The New Challengers is like the icon of Capcom's milking problem. It's funny and sad the SNES and Genesis ports bombed and cost Capcom tons and tons of money. At least it lead to Super Turbo though...

The Dhlasim cheap style that was so successful in the game for me and others would be, always going for the grap and the YOGA YOGA YOGA cheap hits. Mix in a few fire attacks and the slidding kick would make Dhlasim an annoying opponet for all.

Shame it bombed, that's the best one. I didn't know it did...I knew a lot of people that had it.

And to the Dhalsim guy, Vega is a far superior trapper to Dhalsim. Dhalsim requires using special moves, a TCR trap-style no-no. Vega only needs a shoulder-button jump kick and suplex. I use ONE key to play!!

Why would it be the best when there's Super SF II Turbo? Super Turbo makes Super obsolete.

Did anyone here ever like Sagat? I thought he was great.

Plus I liked the backstory with him and Ryu.

Tiger! Tiger! Tiger! Tiger! Tiger---Uppercut! tiger! Tiger--Knee!

Using him, he's too slow, against him, he has too many breakout moves. So I hate him, but love fighting there.

Personally, I am and have always been one of those shotokan bitches. Ken, Ryu, and Akuma are to me the most well-balanced characters in the game. They've got the best overall fireball, the dragon punch can counter almost any aerial attack, and the hurricane kick is the perfect ending to just about any combo. They've also got surprisingly long reach for such small guys, and don't have many weaknesses, i.e., moves that are waaaay too slow and set them up for counter attacks (Guile's double foot sweep comes to mind). The only time that I really have any trouble is when I'm in there with some bastard who's really fast and has a long reach, like Vega. My personal attack strategy has always been the same: stay on them, keep them cornered, keep jumping in to attack, hit them high & low without giving them a chance to tell where you're coming from, and use as wide a variety of different moves as you can.

You seem to be well-rounded Jingus. But I would kill you because I use Vega. Even if you trapped me I could break out easily and return the favor.

Is SFS2Turbo out for SNES? Because I'm not an arcade guy.

No. It's arcade, 3DO, PC, GBA(as SSF2T Revival), PSX & Saturn(as SF Collection) and Dreamcast(but only in Japan).

I don't see the effectiveness of this trap strategy. If all you're doing is jump kicks why don't your opponents just knock you out of the air with an anti-air move? Your friends must be awful.

No, it's suplex, jump kick/jump-slash, followed by a suplex, over and over. So they never get a chance to recover, and are constantly in a state of being knocked down. Trust me it works, and my friends are not shabby at all.

I have a 99-1 record going against one of my friends using only Zangeif.

On my computer. (Emulated)

On the keyboard (No spining piledriver)

Props, yo.

Why would you never get a chance to recover? You're not stunned after a throw. I don't understand why anyone would just stand there and let you tick them like that all day, unless they're dumb or have extremely bad reflexes.

I believe the greatest Street Fighter character of all time has to be Karin Kanzuki, if only for the fact you can abuse corner pressure like Bobby Brown.

Don't even get me started on her V-Ism.
