Ripper 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2003 Has it ever dawned on any of you that if the "rock" and "metal" on MTV isn't what real Rock and Metal are about that MAYBE the "hip-hop" thats on MTV isn't really what Hip-hop is about. The "bling-bling" raps that you all so retardedly call hip-hop is about as common and representative of the genre as Limp Bizkit is a great representative of Metal. Remove heads from asses. Remember...Sisqo was the winner of the first "Best Hip-Hop Video" award for Thong Song. ... Reflect on that for a moment... ... Now if this doesn't prove that MTV hasn't got the slightest idea what they are talking about, I would love to hear what would.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2003 Oh I won't disagree with you that MTV isn't represenative of what's really out there. But to a lot of the kids out there it is...I don't know if it's still like that but when I was in High School that's ALL anybody talked about was the music from MTV. OK I HAVE A CONFESSION TO MAKE! This may shock some of you who here my anti-rap tirades but...I like DMX......I SAID I LIKE DMX!!! There I said it. I couldn't deny it anymore. There's just something about his music that I like. *goes off to shoot himself*

And Damaramu, that was my idea first on putting that in your title, but if I did that, I would be banned, so I give you all the credit for that.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2003 What my rap sucks title?
Ripper 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2003 So...you like repetitive shitty rap. Then you have the nerve to say that hip-hop sucks...sad sad man.
Guest Plushy Al Logan Report post Posted August 26, 2003 What my rap sucks title? Yes, that title. Dames is looking for any reason to ban me. But I wont let him.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2003 Well excuse me. Maybe if somebody would introduce me to what you call "real" hip-hop then maybe I might like it. But what I hear on MTV I hate. See there's that thing again about MTV representing.... Ok I've got a new title for it. MTV Rap. Since you're telling me what I hate isn't what rap is all about I'll believe you. I believe you. That I haven't heard what rap is really about because all I hear is what they put on MTV and the radio. And I'll agree they both suck. And I do hate it. Ja-Rule, 50 Cent, Sisqo, Nelly, and P-Diddy...I hate all of there music. And yes I have sat down and listened to there music and found nothing in it that pleased my ears. So enlighten me, "the unenlightened" one Mr Ripper.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2003 If Cash wins I hope he would just spit on the award and throw it down to the ground, and just start cursing or something. Seriously though, since when does MTV give two shits about Johnny Cash? Oh all of the sudden he gets attention on other networks and MTV has to jump on that gravy train. If I was Cash I would be insulted just knowing who the other nominees were.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2003 Anyone with the internet should be disgusted with MTV/Radio music by now. I mean there is so much music you can find through the net that is good quality, NO MATTER WHAT GENRE you enjoy. Hell I am not a huge Rap fan, but the rap music I hear on the Free Speech network here just blows away the crap that is on MTV, lyrically and musically. If I was Cash I would be insulted just knowing who the other nominees were. They'd cut off the mic, and the cameras right away. A better wish would be if Sinatra came back to life, and won that same award. Then he would invite all of the other nominees on stage, where his "friends" would come out, and kick their asses. The Roots song on Madden 2004 is better than all the shit they play on MTV. The Roots > Everyone...
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted August 26, 2003 The Roots are one of the few good "rap" groups that gets attention from MTV. Of course, MTV doesn't give them nearly enough attention.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2003 MTV always plays a sample of that ONE Jurassic 5 song, but they have a lot more to offer than that.
ant_7000 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2003 The Roots is the only rap/rock band that I would buy immediately. But, yea MTV doesn't have a clue about rap neither, Me personally I like to listen to all styles of rap, but I perfer more of a social conscious or a lyrically in depth style rap now. For what I would recommend for a new listener or a close minded hater would be: Just current stuff: Mos Def Talib Kweli Roots Soundbombings Vol 1-3 and 4 is coming soon Outkast Goodie Mob (1st album) 2pac Scarface Nas Eminem Neptunes/N.E.R.D DMX
Perfxion 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2003 I would also like the plug Jay-Z, stay away from his singles he relaeses and you get deeper songs. Another nod I would go with is with Will Smith. Great talent without any cuss words.
haVoc 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2003 The Roots are rap/rock? All because they play their own instruments that doesn't make them rock. Unless I'm missing something?

Guest El Satanico Report post Posted August 27, 2003 Well you could call the roots a type of rap/rock. Of course they aren't the type of rap/rock most people think of now. More like a 70's funk or run dmc type of rap/rock.
