We've all watched a movie on broadcast TV or a cable channel (like TBS, TNT, etc.) and gone, "How the fuck could they edit that scene out ? It kills the whole movie !" It can pretty much ruin the rest of the film sometimes.

But the question is: What is the worst butchering of a movie that you've seen so far ?

I might have to say "My Cousin Vinny" on FOX. So many jokes from that movie were cut out by Fox that it was sickening.

"The People vs. Larry Flynt" on USA a few years back.

They actually ZOOMED IN when there was nudity.

So if you need a screencap of Woody Harrelson's forehead, you missed your chance.

I always liked "Die Hard", where "mother-fucker" was changed to "Mr. Fricker", in a voice about 1 octave higher than Bruce Willis.

On a related note, how is the TV editing for Se7en ? I plan to watch it on TNT tomorrow night, but I might just skip over it if the editing is ridiculous.

Not quite the same thing, but it's pretty much impossible to watch the Bond movies on Spike, because they cut to commercials for five minutes every five minutes. And it's always the same damn commercials. It drives me insane.

last weekend i caught some of 'die hard 2' on tv, and there was this one obscenity-laced monologue bruce willis had that was completely changed around & didn't sound anywhere near the ballpark of what someone imitating bruce willis should sound like. it was surreal.

i caught about 10 minutes of 'boogie nights' on fx, & i actually rather liked the way they handled the edits. they made no attempt at all to smooth anything out or cover anything up (cut the sound out on profanity instead of overdubbing, and when mark wahlberg rubs his dick through his underwear they just put a black bar on the screen). reminded me of the edited version of 'private parts', which was hysterical.

A couple of months ago on TBS, I watched Terminator and they cut out the sex scene. The most important scene in the movie.

Also on USA, most of Casino's lines were dubbed.

The worst editing of "fuck" or a derivitive there of was in JFK where Kevin Bacon calls everyone and everything a mother fucker and they change it to "mother fletcher." Leading to sentences like "those fletching mother fletching fletchers."

As far as content goes, I learned in my analysis last week for UHF that Comedy Central cuts out the part where the poodles get tossed out the window, Conan the Libarian splits the guy in half and where RJ is kneed in the balls by the old lady. Is there a need for any of that?

I can't remember the movie but I know I heard a "Mother Friender" on some cable channel. Not quite as insulting.

"You Scumbum!"

I'll let y'all guess as to what movie that was used for.

The ABC/USA/FX version of Mallrats is laughably bad. Not only do they edit words. But they have voice actors redo whole lines where maybe one word it bad...it's in a league of its own

Laughably bad is a good way to describe it.

Almost all of Jay's lines were edited. You barely hear Mewes' voice in the TV version. It's about 90% voice actor and 10% Mewes. The edit that stood out the most to me was "one phat chronic blunt" being changed to "one fast karate punch."

How about the Usual Suspects?

In England ITV showed Robocop on a Saturday afternoon. That meant there was a lot of editing. The funniest part though was when people said MotherCrusher instead of the obvious. However whoever did the voiceover was a few octaves higher and so it sounded hilarious. It became my favourite swear word, "mother" followed by a much higher "crusher". Although no one else got it or found it funny, oh well.

Jackie Gleason probably has the record for the guy most edited in a movie. They changed about every other word whenever he spoke and invented new words to cover, like 'scumbum' and 'ticktoad'

Well, I was watching The Untouchables last night on Bravo, and they replaced "Why don't you kiss my ass?" with "Why don't you give me a break?" That doesn't even make sense. They cut out the word "dago" in one scene, but left it in another, and kept the word "wop" in THE SAME SCENE. Also, most of the graphic violence was cut by keeping the camera focused on someone's face. Example: At the end of the train station shoot-out, there's supposed to be a long shot of a dead guy sliding down the wall, with his brains splattered on the wall and everything. Instead, they just kept the camera on the accountant's sweating face.

And from Austin Powers: "Do I make you randy, baby? Do I?" This wasn't so bad, because it actually sounded like him.
