Worst Butchering of a Movie on TV

Recommended Posts

The convo between Bruce Willis and Denis Franz in DH2 is priceless. It's like two completely different people talking.

*marks for "Mr. Falcon"*

Movies like Strip Tease and Showgirls that get shown on TV, but don't show the only reason why you'd ever watch it, is hilarious because the stations often promote them as if they do.

Major League...

At the end of the final game, Corbin Bernsen (Dorn) says to Charlie Sheen (Vaughn), "Strike this motherfucker out!" In the TV version, "Strike this guy out!" Using "this guy" isn't a bad choice, but the voice they use sounds nothing like Bernsen.

I remember watching "Airheads" on Comedy Central probably 3 years ago at 1:00 in the afternoon.

The censor must have been asleep because nothing was edited at all. I was shocked.

what does the guy have elephantisis of in the TBS edit?

the nuts

No they change it to something decidedly non-genital...feet?

That sounds right.

I have it on tape somewhere, I'll check.

FORGET YOU!

:P

Thanks a fat lot for beating me to Breakfast Club. Refresh my memory: what does the guy have elephantisis of in the TBS edit? It's not his balls riding shotgun.

Not the answer to your question, but I remember watching the TBS Dirty Dancing (?) while on vacation in Las Vegas. After that, the unoffical catchphrase of the trip became, "FLAKE OFF!"

In England ITV showed Robocop on a Saturday afternoon. That meant there was a lot of editing. The funniest part though was when people said MotherCrusher instead of the obvious. However whoever did the voiceover was a few octaves higher and so it sounded hilarious. It became my favourite swear word, "mother" followed by a much higher "crusher". Although no one else got it or found it funny, oh well.

Don't forget Sgt. Reed's opening dialogue:

"Your client's a crumbag, you're a crumbag, and crumbags see the judge on Monday morning!"

And Miguel Ferrer's "You're gonna be a bad mother crusher! (huh-huh)" was indeed priceless. Ah, good times.

On a related note, how is the TV editing for Se7en ? I plan to watch it on TNT tomorrow night, but I might just skip over it if the editing is ridiculous.

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

probably already responded to, but the villian only gets shot twice instead of Pitt emptying the entire clip.

In another dumb move, how stupid was it that TBS put Spacey in the commercial for Se7en?

Showgirls is hilarious with the digital bras.

Lamest audio edit. Umm, Police Academy 3. Sgt. Tackleberry, says asshole and they replace it with "eggroll"

One I've mentioned before is ruining one of my all time favorites lines in American cinema. In the movie Half Baked, when presented on Comedy Central, when all of the guys are asked what they want from the store, Dave Chapelle's classic line is changed from "A box of condoms and, what's the stuff... we used to eat it all the time... oh yeah, pussy!" to "A box of condoms and, what's the stuff... we used to eat it all the time... oh yeah, pudding!" It was pretty sad, yet funny at the same time.

I remember one presentation of the Mask, I believe on Fox or ABC a few years back, where the censoring would tend to come late, with such lines as "They'd come crawling out of my as-- BUTT!" Completely different voice bursting out the word half way through the word.

I noticed all the underwear threads. After watching my Saving Silverman DVD and Comedy Central is running all the previews, Steve Zahn has on underwear when he is practicing the yoga book. The scene doesn't really make sense with the underwear on, I mean, even on the PG-13 rated version he has none, but, whatever. The main thing is he didn't even show crack or anything... it was just a side view... but it changes what is happening.

Here's one I remember, although you might have to excuse me if I'm being dumb.

It was in Bad Boys, where Smith and Lawrence are in the store at the beginning of the movie. Now, since I've only seen the flick twice and it was years ago now, I'm not sure if it was a dub or just Michael Bay giving us his take on Korean shopkeeper's broken English, but didn't the guy pull a gun on the two of them and call them "mother fishers"? If that was intentional, fair play, but if it's something the censors did... wow.

When I saw "Do The Right Thing" on Trio and ABC, whenever someone in the film said the word "motherfucker", they would change it to "Mickey Fickey."

I thought Trio was supposed to be the anti-censorship channel or something. Anyway, Kingpin and Dumb & Dumber were treated rather poorly, as was Good Will Hunting.

I have the movie on DVD and I'm sure he says Motherfucker. But it's not in the beginning of the movie, it's halfway through.

On TBS, Judd Nelson's "Fuck you" becomes "Damn you" in The Breakfast Club. I still can't figure out why they edit "Forget to watch your jock?" and "Eat my shorts!" That just seems extraneous and silly.

Also, the "elephantitis of the nuts" is edited to "elephantitis of the BUTT".

They also add in two deleted scenes in place of the pot-smoking scene... one where Molly Ringwald asks for change for a $50 before Emilio Estevez and Ally Sheedy go to the soda machine, and one where the kids are sneaking around the school and they pass the principal trying to get soda out of a soda machine.

USA uses the "digital bra" technique with The People vs. Larry Flynt, specifically during Courtney Love's "photo shoot". They airbrush in pillows, I think, to cover up her nubbins.

The "Mr. Falcon" line kills me.

He calls them a "mother-bitch".

And Micky Ficky has to be the funniest changing of mother fucker on the planet. How the fuck is Micky Ficky a damn insult.

And ANY Eddie Murphy movie has the same guy doing the voice over. And you know that scene in Beverly Hills Cop when Eddie says "You have to have a little more soul than that...say it like "I ain't gonna be fallin fo no banana in the tail pipe." The guy does EVERY voice over of Eddie just like his "soulful" voice in that movie. It never even comes close to fitting.

ANd if it is a Chris Tucker movie, they just overlay him saying "MAAAAAANN!!!" over any curse word...even if it doesn't fit at all.

Actually he calls them "motherbitches" easily one of the funniest scenes in the movie.

Showgirls is hilarious with the digital bras.

Still, it takes away the major selling point of the movie. Without having tits everywhere, it's simply an extremely bad movie.

My favorite is the editing of the scene in Predator where Arnold Schwarzenegger slams Carl Weathers against the wall and yells "THIS IS BOLOGNA!

The funny part is I could see Ah-nold saying that...

I don't think that this was real, but Showcase in Canada used to run ads talking about their movies always running uncut (but fullscreen). They ran a clip of "Very Bad Things" where Daniel Stern is calling everybody "fuddyduddies" in place of "motherfuckers". For some reason I found that to be pretty funny.

Halloween 2 on TNT

Original line: All you say is damn, or hell, or shit.

TNT's line: All you say is hell, or damn, or hell.

I also recall hearing something about damning it up.

Major League has edits all over it...

ORIGINAL VERSION

Jake Taylor: Well, I guess there's only one thing to do...

Some other guy: What's that?

Taylor: Win the whole fuckin' thing.

Willie Mays Hays: Yeah.

EDITED VERSION

Jake Taylor: Well, I guess there's only one thing to do...

Willie Mays Hays: Yeah.

On a semi-related note, I LOVE the sketch on Mr. Show that is a parody of Goodfellas. They call it "Pallies" and they dub over everything... It's become a running gag with my buddies...

My personal favorites are "You piece of SHOE!" and "You mother father Chinese dentist!" ... and then there's one where a guys goes to flip the other guy the bird, but they superimpose a hand giving the "thumbs up" signal over it. Priceless.
