Damaramu Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 Ok which does everyone like? The Danzig Misfits or the Only Misfits(by that I mean the misfits where Only seemed to be the only constant thing...) I'd have to go with the Danzig Misfits as I just love Danzigs voice and think that he kicks about 30 different kinds of ass when he sings... What about the rest of you?
Guest El Satanico Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 Like there's any doubt about which version will win. I'll be surprised if someone says new Misfits. With that said, I have nothing against the new Misfits.
Damaramu Posted September 3, 2003 Author Report Posted September 3, 2003 Yeah there's not the seething hate like there is for new Metallica...
Steviekick Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 I'm a *huge* Misfits fan (if this was a SAT question in the analogy section it would be Steviekick:Misfits to CoreyLazarus416:ShadowsFall). The obvious answer is the Danzig lead Misfits, because that was when all they're classic material was put out. Anytime some band covers a Misfits song it will be from that era. There will never be another band to be able to pull off a horror punk sound like them. However, the Newfits do deserve some credit for what they're doing. It's not like they're trying to rip off songs so that everything sounds like it was from "Earth A.D." They show a lot more 50's rock/pop sensibilities to them, kind of like the Ramones (after all, they did work with Daniel Rey, who produced some of the latter Ramones stuff). The Misfits made their legacy while Danzig was at the helm, so that is what their best stuff is. I don't think that the Newfits are taking away from the band's, they're doing something different. And it's still better than so much of the other "punk" stuff that has came out since their return.
justsoyouknow Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 Danzig all the way. "Where Eagles Dare" is a fucking anthem. If you ask anyone on the streets to name a misfits song, odds are that's what they'll name. It pisses me off to see all these "punk" kids wearing Misfits shirts, having Misfits pins on their backpacks, and they don't know the fucking history behind it.
MrRant Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 I prefer old Misfits to the new Misfits but I personally thought Famous Monsters was really good. I could listen to the album all the way through even though some "fans" slammed it.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 Danzig and only Danzig Misfits.
nl5xsk1 Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 As much respect as I have for Jerry and Doyle, you have to say that Glenn is what made the Misfits famous. Thus, my vote is going to the Danzig-era Misfits.
Nevermortal Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 Lazarus is going to say new Misfits. The old Misfits are the only Misfits *I* recognize. Not the Graves version or this hydra of a Ramones/Black Flag/Misfits tribute band.

If you ask anyone on the streets to name a misfits song, odds are that's what they'll name. I disagree - I'd say either Mommy, Can I ... or Die, Die My Darling. Or, for those that only know Misfits songs due to Metallica, the Last Caress/Green Hell combo.

AboveAverage484 Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 Yeah, like this is gonna be close. Astro Zombies is the best Misfits song by the way.

nl5xsk1 Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 If we're talking favorite Misfits songs, it'd be either She, Skulls, or Cough/Cool ... depending on my mood. Most of the time, though, it'd be She.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 Lazarus is going to say new Misfits. I bet he does too, and I'm gonna hit him with a shoe when he does, considering that they wrote all their good material early on, before becoming a sideshow act playing cheesy empty songs that lack the creepiness and hairy balls of their prior material.
Damaramu Posted September 3, 2003 Author Report Posted September 3, 2003 I will agree that Famous Monsters is really good......I enjoy it a lot. I remember whenever the Misfits came back....everyone at my school was like "Hey have you heard about this NEW band The Misfits?" and I was like...*GROAN* Kind of like all this "have you heard about this new band AFI?" that I hear...
Henry Spencer Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 Old Misfits. And if we're talking favorite songs, I've always been partial to Hybrid Moments and Last Caress myself.

People getting hit with shoes is funny.
The Metal Maniac Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 I'm rather indifferent to the Misfits in general these days. If I had a gun to my head, and had to choose, I'd probably wonder why someone was willing to shoot me if I didn't pick one. Then I'd make up an answer and tell him that. Depends on my mood, really. Sometimes I like going for the more raw feel of the older Misfits, sometimes I feel like going for the more cheesy, polished newer Misfits. Though I think Danzig had a damn good point when he said that they shouldn't be called the Misfits anymore. Call them whatever the fuck else, but not the Misfits, because Danzig IS the Misfits.
Red Baron Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 Old Misfits... though I don't like Misfits at all.
Steviekick Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 Though I think Danzig had a damn good point when he said that they shouldn't be called the Misfits anymore. Call them whatever the fuck else, but not the Misfits, because Danzig IS the Misfits. My biggest gripe with Danzig is that he pretty much abandoned the whole Misfits band. He also tried to screw members out of royalties from the band in the 90s, and owed Jerry and Doyle money back from when they were still together. But in the end, it all worked out. Danzig gets to retain publishing rights to all the 77-83 material, artwork, and such. Jerry and Doyle gained the right to be able to perform/record/use the name Misfits. And they all agreed on this, so no one should say that Danzig got screwed.
PLAGIARISM! Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 I always preferred them as a comedy band. Seriously. I like the old stuff fine, but 'Static Age' is one of the most overrated albums I have ever heard in my life.
Steviekick Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 "Bullet" is another great Misfits song. I love the cover to it's single.
