Dr. Tyler; Captain America 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2003 http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews.dbm?ID=732 I forgot, though, that job approval ratings only matter when Bush is over 70%.
Justice 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2003 http://www.gallup.com/poll/releases/pr030905.asp Gallup says he's at 59%. I have to say the difference between the two is startling.
Dr. Tyler; Captain America 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2003 The MOE for both polls are around 3.0%. I'm not sure what to make of the Gallup results, but it's not fair to say Zogby is biased towards either side since he has had Bush's approval ratings roughly the same as Gallup's (and, for that matter, I.R. Cook's) for a very long time now. However, I do know that many people live and die by Zogby's numbers, since he does his polls differently than any of the other ones. So, again, it's another poll for you guys to disregard, but it's interesting.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2003 So, again, it's another poll for you guys to disregard, but it's interesting. During the War in Iraq you said the polls showing 70% support didn't mean anything. Both sides will dismiss polls that reflect negatively for their side. Dr. Tyler; Captain America 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2003 http://www.pollingreport.com/BushJob.htm Gallup's numbers seem inflated, considering the other pollsters' results.
Stephen Joseph 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2003 stop trying to call 1 poll inflated and another poll not youre basing your facts on supposition, not on fact. none of us here know how the polls are done, what the question's EXACT wording was, or how and who they targeted to ask you can poll the same 100 people and ask the same question except change 1 word and you will get a different poll the ONLY thing we can draw from these polls is that is approval rating is around the numbers we quoted, and that in likelihood the real approval rating has dropped since the war began that is all. try and refute this, and im cracking open my econometrics book right here and pulling out the poll example <--note-don't fuck with an economics phd candidate
Dr. Tyler; Captain America 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2003 Well, golly gee, you're an economics PhD candidate, so I should hold your words as bible, eh? Three polls are between 46%-52%. One is at 59%. BUT HEY, ONE ISN'T INFLATED, IS IT?
Dr. Tyler; Captain America 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2003 Also, something I just noticed... Gallup's poll is older than the others.
Justice 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2003 (edited) http://www.pollingreport.com/BushJob.htm Gallup's numbers seem inflated, considering the other pollsters' results. I disagree. None of those numbers are below 50% besides the Zogby, and most are only 5 off of it, while some are nearly 10 points off Zogby. Let's look: Zogby: 45% CNN: 52% Ipsos-Reid/Cook Political Report: 52% CBS News Poll: 55% Gallup: 59% Newsweek: 53% Also note that most of those also list the disapproval rating in the low 40s to the high 30s. Zogby is at 54%. That's just seals the deal for me. I'm not claiming Zogby is biased. I just thought the polls had an incredible difference between the two. Zogby is nearly 10 points off the nearest one as well. Well, golly gee, you're an economics PhD candidate, so I should hold your words as bible, eh? Three polls are between 46%-52%. One is at 59%. BUT HEY, ONE ISN'T INFLATED, IS IT? No, I'd just say one is deflated. 3rd: It's only a little over a week old. That doesn't automatically discredit it since the Zogby seems to be the real outlier in the set here. Edited September 6, 2003 by Powerplay
MrRant 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2003 I'm not sure I can trust anything with the name "Zogby". It sounds like Gumby's retarded older cousin or something.
Dr. Tyler; Captain America 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2003 Gallup's covers the week of August 25th, Zogby's is for the past week. In fact, all numbers =>55% are two weeks old.
Justice 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2003 Gallup's covers the week of August 25th, Zogby's is for the past week. In fact, all numbers =>55% are two weeks old. So? I just noticed that Zogby lumps in "Fair" with "Disapprove", which doesn't exactly ring true to me. I don't see how saying "Meh, he's not doing bad." counts as a negative comment. I dunno, I suppose one would have Zogby define "fair" for me to really trust that. Secondly, what in God's name would warrant a 10 point drop?
Dr. Tyler; Captain America 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2003 News that the debt is going to exceed $500 billion, casualty count in post-war Iraq exceeding the count during the war, "roadmap to peace" falling apart (although we can't really blame Bush for that), unemployment refusing to drop further, etc.

Justice 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2003 Again, I find it odd that they list the "fair" responses in the "negative" category. As stated before, the question is different than most of the polls, so it could lead to a skew. But C'est La Vie. And just to ask: What do you think of Dean supporting Davis right now? Dr. Tyler; Captain America 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2003 Eh, if you read his speech, it's more anti-recall than pro-Davis.
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2003 John Ashcroft running around telling us that the Patriot Act is really a good thing and the U.N. thing as of late hasn't helped him. I'd imagine it's a bit lower than the medium of all those polls KKK mentioned, but not as low as the Zogby because of the whole "fair as a negative number." I doubt that affects more than a few points though, as people either love or hate this guy with very little in-between.
