Brush with Greatness Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 Just out of curiousity, if Nintendo was to re-releae the Nintendo Entertainment System along with games, how many people would purchase them? As long as Nintendo made the system's top-loading (like the final rare versions of the NES they released) there shouldn't be a problem with blue screens and your old games would work fine. Even release game packs to save on cost or something. Sure, emulation is great. However, computer emulation lacks good multiplayer (as in a group of guys sitting around a house playing on a TV). Nester DC was excellent but I'd much rather be playing with an NES Max than a DC pad. Your thoughts? (on pricing, purchasing or anything else)
PsychoDriver Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 (edited) Sure, if they made a system that played NES and SNES games I'd buy it in a second, As my SNES has been broken for years and my NES is on it's last legs. Edited September 11, 2003 by PsychoDriver
Guest Sakura Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 No. There's not much on NES I think is worth playing anymore. Give me FF X-2.
Guest TheBigCalbowski Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 My NES still works just fine so I don't see a need to buy a re-release.
Damaramu Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 Hell yeah I would. The NES kicked ass and I can think of a few games i'd love to get at.
Steviekick Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 If they released one of the controllers with the built in games like Jakks Pacific does I'd think about it. I really don't want another game system, let alone a 15+ one.
razazteca Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 I saw one of those 100-in-1 systems for sale on QVC last week. It was one of those systems that was a controller and system in one deal like the Atari.
AndrewTS Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 (edited) If the GBA wasn't out now and wasn't 20 times more powerful or so, maybe. I'd personally like a newer, more compact SNES--however, without production of new games they wouldn't really bother, would they? No one would profit but guys who deal in used games like Gamestops. I grew up in the 16-bit era and still play 8 bit games in the form of old Game Boy games on my GBA. Hell, I had a Game Gear for a while too. So I don't have the sentimental attachment to NES others do...to me the games mostly have bad graphics and are too hard/expect you to play straight through without saves to actually complete it. I admire the tenacity of those who grew up and liked it that way, but I can't go back... Edited September 11, 2003 by AndrewTS
JHawk Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 I would, if only to play the games I already have.

the max Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 I still have mine somewhere and have an emulator for it on my computer. So, no.
starvenger Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 I've got a GBA and a NES emulator, so I'm set... And I think my cousin still has a Famicom (w/ disk drive attachment) somewhere...
LaParkaYourCar Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 Now that I have a NES emulator on my computer the no I wouldn't. I remember how much of a pain it was getting those games to work sometimes. I like being able to just start playing on my computer.

I grew up during the era but I never got a game system until Christmas...94 I think, when I got a Genesis and Jurassic Park for it. Up until then I'd only played some NES over my cousins', and I liked Mega Man and Mario at least.

Some NES games are still harder to beat than today's games. They actually were challenging instead of all flash. Nothing beats Mike Tyson's Punchout! Still one of the most fun games ever!
Guest Sakura Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 Even at the time I found most to be lame. Challenge isn't very cool, I like easy games.
Red Baron Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 If I got a re-issued NES, i'll be playing that more than the X-Box I have. That X-Box would be a hefty paper weight for a while.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 I have an NES. I was pissed that my battery backup copies of Zelda games are all dead. Good thing Nintendo is putting them on a new bonus disc for the gamecube!

Guest Fook Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 I still have my old NES, but it literally takes me dozens of tries to get a game to work on there. All I get is that flashing screen while I'm trying to blow into the system to clear the dust. I have an emulator though, so I don't know if I'd get the system.
The Amazing Rando Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 I looooooong to play the original Metroid on the old NES gamepad... The first video game I ever beat... and will always hold a special place in my heart for when I saw the ending and almost passed out. a newer SNES would be good so I could bust out QB Club 96 and tear a new asshole in it again.
JasonX Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 I have an NES. I was pissed that my battery backup copies of Zelda games are all dead. Good thing Nintendo is putting them on a new bonus disc for the gamecube! Wrong games. The Zelda GC bonus disc had the first N64 Zelda game plus the never released in the US remix version of said N64 game, which used content that was supposed to be on the N64 disc drive version of the game...
Guest Eagan469 Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 I'm happy with NesterDC - I should probably sell my old system and games on eBay
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 They should just put every Nintendo game ever on a ten disc Gamecube set, and an adapter for the old controller.

Some NES games are still harder to beat than today's games. They actually were challenging instead of all flash. Nothing beats Mike Tyson's Punchout! Still one of the most fun games ever! Law of averages. There were some brillinat gmaes for the NES, but out of what I think ended up being like 800 titles, there were a lot of really bad ones. A lot of the games that were really were so because of cheap/mandatory hits, brutal block-jump sequences or just plain bad control. Dying because the camera went off in some bizarre, random direction is the modern equivalent of your character not responding when you press jump and falling off a platform as a result. I'd definitely buy the NES if it was something reasonable like fifty bucks, because mine pooched out a long time ago - because the fifty or so games that are really good make the system worthwhile, and those that aren't actively bad but at least playable provide some variety. But thinking back to the wall of NES games at the video store when I was a kid, I played most of them (and I've recently re-played emulated versions of them), and I stand by my own conclusion from then - some of these games are awesome, but a lot of them suck.
Guest Eagan469 Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 They should just put every Nintendo game ever on a ten disc Gamecube set, and an adapter for the old controller. Every NES game ever would only take up about 25% of one Gamecube disc.

Doing so would seriously hurt the real money maker in the GBA as it is nothing but remakes of classic nintendo games........River City Random and Double Dragon are coming out in 2 months.
