Guest whatitistoburn Report post Posted September 12, 2003 Thought I'd start a topic on the subject since no one had said anything about it yet. After the first issue I must say that I am REALLY digging what they've been doing so far. So many great little mark out moments (I'm particularly fond of Quicksilver's response to finding out Flash has a musuem). Looks like issue #2 is gonna be solid with the battle all lined up. So um... what do you guys think?
Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted September 12, 2003 I liked it. Although I have no clue what half the items they have to find are. Oh, and GL could take all the Avengers himself.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2003 I liked it. Although I have no clue what half the items they have to find are. Oh, and GL could take all the Avengers himself. Let's not even get into the "who can beat who" stuff. Jim Trabold at 411Mania sorted out the Marvel items. They are: - The Infinity Gems - Ultimate Nullifier - (Earth's) Cosmic Cube - Wand of Watoomb - Evil Eye of Avalon - The Casket of Ancient Winters Busiek seemed to have channeled Mark Waid to get those last three items. Best line was Hawkeye's comment about the JLA being Squadron Supreme ripoffs... btw did the issue remind anyone of Contest of Champions? Minus the token new international characters, of course. Guest Luke Cage Report post Posted September 13, 2003 I thought the first issue was a great example of classic superhero storytelling. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

Thor? what about thor?????? he just got hos ass handed to him by some old dead ass vikings.....G.L.'s power ring would fuck him up for good. the JLA would whoop them so bad, it'd almost be sad. Yeah, but that's post-Crisis Supes for you. No stronger than a 9 year old girl.
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2003 Yeah, but pre-Crisis Supes was ridiculously overpowerful. If I wanted to read about an all powerful being, I'd rather read the Bible.
Big McLargeHuge 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2003 Not this gem, again.
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2003 Let me rephrase that. I hated to read many of the pre-Crisis DC books, especially Superman. He was too damn powerful, so when he would get into trouble it would make me roll my eyes. I love the Superman character, especially the way he was brought back post-Crisis. I just didn't like his deity like staus. Comparably, Thor and Hercules are gods in the Marvel Universe and have always appeared much more vulnerable.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2003 I would think that at this time, the X-Men are more powerful than the Avengers...
Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted September 15, 2003 one thing I forgot is how did Hal Jordan Become the Specture?
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2003 When Hal Jordan returned to being a good guy by relighting the sun (which was extinguished), he was given the opportunity to redeem his soul by joining with the spirit of redemption, the Spectre, because the Spectre's original host was finished serving that role. pochorenella 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2003 I bought the first issue last week and it's everything I hoped for. Tons of characters, handled beautifully by the master George Perez, terrific art all around, and a story that left me hungry for more. Kurt Busiek also handled the JLA like an expert, making each of them sound exactly like they should. I don't want to spoil anything to those who haven't read it yet, but when you guys are ready to discuss details I'll be here. Lots to talk about in that department. And I'm SURE this will degenerate into a "This guy beats That guy" down the line. Hell, it's already started if the last couple of pages with Supes and Thor are any indication. Hell, it's already started if the last couple of pages with Supes and Thor are any indication. ...yes it has, but wait until we start getting into stuff like "yeah, but what if Warbird was still Binary" and other tangential things... I'm hoping that Busiek and Perez throw in a mini-New Warriors reunion with Firestar, Justice, Rage (mind you he was only a probationary member) and Darkhawk. Hey, even if it's only two panels, I'll probably mark out like... well, like a New Warriors fan, I guess.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2003 To whet your appetite, here's a link to a (rather large) black and white image of JLA/Avengers #3. I think Perez may have gotten EVERY JLA and Avenger member, EVER on this one, and some that weren't really members, like the Great Lakes Avengers. Looking at this, I'm not sure what's more insane - this, or the pencilwork he did for Alex Ross' Crisis TPB cover...

Here is the awesome cover for issue #4 This picture upsets me very much. I am under the assumption that Superman has picked up these weapons to continue fighting the evilness. However, I can accept Superman defeating Cap. But not Thor.

I like to think that Thor and Cap end up sharing their weapons to aid in the defeat of a common enemy.. What I want to know is what is Supes fighting that he NEEDS those trinkets? Yipe.
