The One and Only Angel Season 5 Thread

Recommended Posts

Here's my "apologist explanation for the Spike thing :)

He can't touch sentient beings at all. However, when it comes to inanimate objects, he can if he decides to. This is why he can sit down in chairs, and cars, and can choose/push himself through them if he wants. But not living beings (which is why he couldn't touch Angel or the Grokslar Beast... and yes, I know Angel's dead, but I'm counting him as a sentient being. Remember he's not actually a ghost... that much was made clear during the scene where Fred was scanning him).

Well he stands on the floor...maybe he isn't really touching them but can kinda hover so it appears as if he's touching em....I dunno, heh

Anyway, just watched OMWaF, such a great episode. Some good songs and it really brought together alot of plot points. Great line from Buffy to about Dawn being in trouble so it must be Tuesday <_< Also Tara's voice  and Anya in undies...bah, no drool emote

Anya didn't look all that good in her 'undies.'

Angel got a 3.7, and Smallville got a 4.2. Once again, Angel brought in most of Smallville's audience, even though it was down from last week I believe.

Is it just me, or does Angel seem to be making a slow change from the dark angst the series was known for into more comical, colorful, Buffy-type adventures? Not complaining, as that spoiler preview seems like it'll be funny as hell, just an observation.

The Spike Ghost Thing: there is NO good way to explain it, period. Dozens or hundreds of movies, TV shows, books, video games, etc. have portrayed ghosts as being completely unable to touch anything physically, walking through walls and all that, but they still seem able to stand or sit on anything they like. It's a fuckup that's commonly used for storytelling purposes. Just accept it.

And oh yeah, saw OMWF for the first time myself, and jesus holy christ, that's maybe one of the best episodes of any TV show I've ever encountered. I was surprised by some of the cast's vocal abilities. Tara's sappy numbers got kinda old, and I wish Dawn would've sung more (and am thankful that Willow didn't), but Spike had a shockingly good voice, as did Anya; Giles did about as well as expected, and Buffy and Xander did better than I thought they would. Favorite highlight: Anya's freakout solo blaming little bunny rabbits for all the evil in the world. Question: are all the songs from this episode available on CD to buy?

Interesting note: Dawn actually had her own number, which was cut for lenght (the show ran over) and it was only shown once, during it's original airing.

And I think you cna get it on CD. I know that region 2 has OMWF on a stand-alone DVD.

I remember Joss and crew saying that they wanted a lighter tone this season after last season's constant doom and gloom. I don't mind it though since I always like the incongruity of a show about vampires, supernatural, death, and evil being almost comedic.

I still want to see the mailboy go lucha on someone though. Angel's pseudo-Sliced Bread #2 was a good start.

I read that Dawn and Willow weren't really good singers, so they were a little scared about signing.

Spike(James) has his own band, though the name leaves my brain right now.

Speaking of DVD release, saw that season six ALREADY has a release date announced. July 6th.

That was probably already mentioned either in the Buffy thread before it became a classic, or in this thread, but I don't remember seeing it.

Amazon already has it up for that date.

I highly recommend the OMWF soundtrack. I think it's by far the best of the three Buffy soundtracks. The stand-alone DVD for the episode is crap, though. I ranted on it back in the Buffy thread.

They have a stand alone DVD? What's the deal with it?

So, where do you get these Season 7 DVD/VCD's from?

eBay.

I never heard anything bad about Dawn, but Willow got universally panned by everyone.

Since the episode was such a big deal, they decided to bring a DVD out for it (in Region 2 territories, at least). A whole DVD dedicated to this one episode, packed with heaps of extras. It sounded quite awesome...yet what we got was far from that. It's easily the worst Buffy DVD Fox has ever put together. The transfer is for crap and the extras, and lack thereof, are inexcusable (there are NO extras related to the episode itself, yet stuff from a non-Whedon show, Dark Angel, is included instead! WTF!?).

I am sure Joss will have commentary on it for the season 6 DVD. Atleast he better!!

Tara's first song was sappy only if you didn't look at the incredible amount of irony in it seeing as Willow actually had her under a spell. Plus when you looked at her words, you see how she equated everything good in her life to being because Willow was there. Then later in the show when she finds out about her betrayal that makes it that much more painful for her. The very thing she thinks made her special betrayed her and she had to leave her.

Plus her and ASH singing "Wish i could stay" was some awsome stuff.

What did people say about her? As far as I can tell, she's just one of those people who're born tone-deaf. It's not her fault that the TV show she worked on did a musical episode. And hell, Dawn and Xander weren't a hell of a lot better when it came to their numbers.

I bought the CD yesterday, and listened to it about a zillion times on a long car trip. Great stuff, I have it damn near memorized now. It's got some bonus stuff on it as well, one track each from Hush, Restless, and The Gift, as well as Whedon and his wife singing and playing one of the songs. Oh, and Dawn apparently never had a full song to herself; she had a dance scene that got cut, but no singing numbers.

Yeah, Aly sucked, but hey, she had what, two or three lines? All I can think of is "I've got a theory some kid is dreamin' and we're all stuck inside his wacky broadway nightmare" and "I think this line is mostly filler".
