AboveAverage484 Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 For the first time in SmartMarks history, 64 horror movies will battle one another to find out which of them has the right to be called the greatest ever! I picked the 64. If your favorite isn't included, sorry. You'll also notice some dogs in there, but it's a freakin' horror movie tournament, you can't expect top-notch quality. No "classic" horror films. Only "modern" movies included. Still confused? Read this: http://www.esplatter.com/reviewsotos/stellar_66.htm It was written by the best horror movie webmaster on the net, and the summary at the top about his list basically sums up the criteria for the tourney. Only vote once, vote on every matchup, you guys have voted in enough tourneys to know the rules. In the event of a tie, I will use the higher scored movie from the Internet Movie Database, for lack of anything better to use. The winners will be announced every Friday and the next round will start in the same thread. The winner will be announced on Halloween. Pretty creepy, huh? Now, "Let's get it on!!!" - Psycho vs. Jason Goes to Hell The Fog vs. Day of the Dead The Omen vs. Silver Bullet Cemetary Man vs. Halloween II Night of the Living Dead (1968) vs. Prom Night Re-Animator vs. Phantasm Dawn of the Dead vs. Friday the 13th Part 2 Texas Chainsaw Massacre vs. Scream 2 The Exorcist vs. Friday the 13th Part 3 Fright Night vs. Blair Witch Project Evil Dead vs. Phantasm 2 Bram Stoker's Dracula vs. Friday the 13th Rosemary's Baby vs. Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers Hellraiser vs. Wes Craven's New Nightmare Army of Darkness vs. Halloween IV The Return of Michael Myers Nightmare on Elm Street vs. Child's Play Alien vs. Friday the 13th Part 7 The New Blood Black Christmas vs. The Howling Carrie vs. Halloween H20 An American Werewolf in London vs. Hills Have Eyes Halloween vs. Friday the 13th The Final Chapter From Dusk Til Dawn vs. Creepshow Evil Dead 2 vs. Children of the Corn The Beyond vs. Zombie The Shining vs. Hallowen 5 The Revenge of Michael Myers Return of the Living Dead vs. Candyman Suspiria vs. I Know What You Did Last Summer Scream vs. Pet Semetary The Thing vs. Friday the 13th Part 6 Jason Lives Lost Boys vs. Night of the Living Dead (1990) Dead Alive vs. Nightmare on Elm Street 4 The Dream Master Near Dark vs. Nightmare on Elm Street 3 Dream Warriors Happy voting! If you can't remember if you've seen some of these movies, just go here: http://www.esplatter.com/main/666.htm It has summaries on all of the movies in the tournament.
Youth N Asia Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 Dude...it's a month till Halloween. That's plenty of time to go through a picking process and not just choose the ones you want. That how we do all of these tourneys.
Nevermortal Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 I vote that someone else conducts this tournament.
AboveAverage484 Posted September 27, 2003 Author Report Posted September 27, 2003 Why? It's not like there is any major movies missing or anything. And I've already made it so the round of 64 is done this week, the round of 32 the next, etc. It all fits in quite nicely with the championship match being decided the week of Halloween.
Shanghai Kid Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 I love Army of Darkness, but it's not even close to being a horror movie. Might as well put the Matrix in there or Indiana Jones.
eiker_ir Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 hmmm....well here're amy picks anyway: Psycho Day of the Dead The Omen Halloween II Night of the Living Dead (1968) Re-Animator Dawn of the Dead Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Exorcist Fright Night Phantasm 2 (AAAAARRRRRG, this was hard) Bram Stoker's Dracula Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (never seen Rosemary....) Wes Craven's New Nightmare Army of Darkness Nightmare on Elm Street Friday the 13th Part 7 The New Blood The Howling Halloween H20 An American Werewolf in London Halloween (AAARRRGGGGG again) From Dusk Til Dawn Evil Dead 2 Zombie The Shining Return of the Living Dead Suspiria Pet Semetary Friday the 13th Part 6 Jason Lives Night of the Living Dead (1990) (damn it, i like both!) Nightmare on Elm Street 4 The Dream Master Nightmare on Elm Street 3 Dream Warriors

Insane Bump Machine Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 Psycho Day of the Dead The Omen Night of the Living Dead (1968) Dawn of the Dead Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Exorcist Blair Witch Project Evil Dead Bram Stoker's Dracula Rosemary's Baby Hellraiser Army of Darkness Nightmare on Elm Street Alien Carrie An American Werewolf in London Halloween From Dusk Til Dawn Evil Dead 2 The Shining Return of the Living Dead Scream The Thing Lost Boys Dead Alive Nightmare on Elm Street 3 Dream Warriors
HarleyQuinn Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 Psycho Day of the Dead The Omen Halloween II Night of the Living Dead (1968) Phantasm Dawn of the Dead Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Exorcist Blair Witch Project Evil Dead Bram Stoker's Dracula Rosemary's Baby Hellraiser Army of Darkness Nightmare on Elm Street Alien Black Christmas Carrie An American Werewolf in London Halloween From Dusk Til Dawn Evil Dead 2 The Beyond vs. Zombie - No Vote, haven't seen either. The Shining Candyman Suspiria Scream Friday the 13th Part 6 Jason Lives Night of the Living Dead (1990) Dead Alive Near Dark
WrestlingDeacon Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 Psycho Day of the Dead The Omen Halloween II Night of the Living Dead (1968) Re-Animator Friday the 13th Part 2 Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Exorcist Fright Night Evil Dead Friday the 13th Rosemary's Baby Hellraiser Army of Darkness Nightmare on Elm Street Alien The Howling Carrie An American Werewolf in London Halloween From Dusk Til Dawn Evil Dead 2 The Beyond The Shining Return of the Living Dead Suspiria Pet Semetary The Thing (which one though?) Lost Boys Dead Alive Near Dark I have to take issue with there being no classic Hammer or Universal flicks on here. No Dracula, Frankenstein, Mummy. A lot of marginal horror films and all these sequels you really don't need. Trim the sequels, add more older stuff and this is fine.
Mole Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 You're missing one of personal favorite horror flicks, The Others. Granted, it was more of a thriller, but there was some horror in it.
Guest El Satanico Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 (edited) Psycho Day of the Dead The Omen Cemetary Man Night of the Living Dead (1968) Phantasm Dawn of the Dead Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Exorcist Fright Night Evil Dead Bram Stoker's Dracula Rosemary's Baby Hellraiser Army of Darkness Nightmare on Elm Street Alien Black Christmas Carrie An American Werewolf in London Halloween Creepshow Evil Dead 2 The Beyond The Shining Return of the Living Dead Suspiria Pet Semetary The Thing Lost Boys Dead Alive Near Dark Someone else(looking at you deacon) should run a tournament with nominations. eiker_ir Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 You're missing one of personal favorite horror flicks, The Others. Granted, it was more of a thriller, but there was some horror in it. The Others is definitly a horror movie, and a pretty creppy one at that.
AboveAverage484 Posted September 27, 2003 Author Report Posted September 27, 2003 The Others is good, but not really a "true" horror film. But neither is Army of Darkness, even though it's in a "true? horror trilogy. Confused yet? I really didn't want to include the old Hammer or Universal horror movies, because I wanted to do more modern ones. If someone was to help, we could do a mini (16) tourney with older movies a couple weeks before Halloween. I was thinking about doing a nomination thread, but that ultimately leaves off more films than if one person picked them. Besides if you just used the first 64 nominees, than someone could just post ten to fifteen and only a few people would need to nominate. Then if you had each person pick one, it would be unlikely that 64 people would reply. I really didn't think I left any major ones out. The two biggest off the top of my head were "Pumpkinhead" and "Last House on the Left." I really don't see either one of those making it past the second round. Sorry if I disappointed some of you.
Anakin Flair Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 Psycho The Fog The Omen Halloween II Night of the Living Dead (1968) Phantasm Dawn of the Dead Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Exorcist Blair Witch Project Evil Dead Friday the 13th Rosemary's Baby Hellraiser Army of Darkness Nightmare on Elm Street Alien The Howling Carrie Hills Have Eyes Halloween From Dusk Til Dawn Children of the Corn The Beyond The Shining Candyman Suspiria Pet Semetary The Thing Lost Boys Nightmare on Elm Street 4 The Dream Master Near Dark Um, why was the Scream Trillogy on here?
Corey_Lazarus Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 Most of these movies fucking suck, and should be nowhere near a "Best of Horror" tournament. Psycho Day of the Dead The Omen Cemetary Man Night of the Living Dead (1968) Re-Animator Dawn of the Dead Texas Chainsaw Massacre Friday the 13th Part 3 Fright Night Evil Dead (UGH~! DIFFICULTY~! TWO OF MY FAVORITE HORROR FILMS EVER~!~!!~!~!~~!!~!!~!~!~!!~) Friday the 13th Rosemary's Baby Wes Craven's New Nightmare Army of Darkness (although it isn't a real horror movie) Nightmare on Elm Street Alien (how fucking EASY is this thing?) The Howling Carrie An American Werewolf in London Halloween Creepshow Evil Dead 2 (my pick for second place) Zombie The Shining Return of the Living Dead (my pick for the winner) Suspiria Pet Semetary The Thing Lost Boys Dead Alive Near Dark
eiker_ir Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 Evil Dead (UGH~! DIFFICULTY~! TWO OF MY FAVORITE HORROR FILMS EVER~!~!!~!~!~~!!~!!~!~!~!!~) yeah man, Phantasm 2 and ED kick-ASS~! Universal need to put out Phantasm 2 on DVD like...NOW!
PsychoDriver Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 No Classics? that sucks.... anyway Psycho (assuming it's the first one and not the recent remake) Day of the Dead Silver Bullet Cemetary Man Night of the Living Dead (1968) Re-Animator Dawn of the Dead Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Exorcist Fright Night Evil Dead Friday the 13th Rosemary's Baby Hellraiser Army of Darkness Nightmare on Elm Street Alien Black Christmas Carrie Hills Have Eyes Halloween From Dusk Til Dawn Evil Dead 2 The Beyond The Shining Return of the Living Dead Suspiria Pet Semetary Friday the 13th Part 6 Jason Lives Lost Boys Dead Alive Near Dark

First off, you let people only pick 2-3 movies each. Second, atleast the posters got to pick. There are plenty of movies that are off of this, but we get the movies YOU want. I'd say we scrap this one, and have people nominate movies.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 Scream isn't a horror movie.
Ravenbomb Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 Psycho The Fog The Omen Cemetary Man Night of the Living Dead (1968) Phantasm Dawn of the Dead Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Exorcist Fright Night Evil Dead Friday the 13th Rosemary's Baby Hellraiser Army of Darkness Nightmare on Elm Street Alien The Howling Carrie Hills Have Eyes Halloween Creepshow (Only because From Dusk Til Dawn isn't a horror movie until like half/two thirds of the way into it) Evil Dead 2 Zombie The Shining Return of the Living Dead Suspiria Pet Semetary The Thing (which The Thing?) Lost Boys I'm not picking between NoES 4 and Dead Alive, I haven't seen NoES 4 and Dead Alive is one of the worst movies I've ever seen Near Dark What's with all the sequils? You could've ditched all the Halloween, NoES and F13s except the original and added Demons, Kaïro, Last House on the Left, Se7en, The Ring/Ringu, Silence Of the Lambs, Suicide Circle and Uzumaki
spiny norman Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 Psycho Day of the Dead The Omen Halloween II Night of the Living Dead (1968) Phantasm Dawn of the Dead Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Exorcist Blair Witch Project Evil Dead Friday the 13th Rosemary's Baby Hellraiser Army of Darkness Nightmare on Elm Street Alien Black Christmas Carrie An American Werewolf in London Halloween From Dusk Til Dawn Evil Dead 2 Zombie The Shining Candyman I Know What You Did Last Summer Pet Semetary The Thing Night of the Living Dead (1990) Dead Alive Near Dark Where was Jaws!? You had Alien, why not Jaws? And Aliens is 3000 times better than most sequels mentioned here. And, even worse, where was Young Frankenstein!!!!!!????
Vern Gagne Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 WTF. None of the really old classics are on the list.
Guest KJ Brackish Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 Here are my picks: Jason Goes to Hell Day of the Dead Silver Bullet Halloween II Night of the Living Dead (1968) Phantasm Dawn of the Dead Scream 2 The Exorcist Blair Witch Project Evil Dead Friday the 13th Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers Wes Craven's New Nightmare Halloween IV The Return of Michael Myers Child's Play Alien The Howling Halloween H20 An American Werewolf in London Halloween From Dusk Til Dawn Children of the Corn Zombie (Never heard of either, but this sounded better) Hallowen 5 The Revenge of Michael Myers Return of the Living Dead I Know What You Did Last Summer Pet Semetary Friday the 13th Part 6 Jason Lives Lost Boys Nightmare on Elm Street 4 The Dream Master Nightmare on Elm Street 3 Dream Warriors
HellSpawn Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 Psycho Day of the Dead The Omen Halloween II Night of the Living Dead (1968) Re-Animator Dawn of the Dead Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Exorcist Fright Night Evil Dead Friday the 13th Rosemary's Baby Hellraiser (This one was a tough for me) Army of Darkness A Nightmare on Elm Street Alien The Howling Carrie An American Werewolf in London (Tough one #2) Halloween Creepshow Children of the Corn Zombie The Shining Candyman Suspiria Scream The Thing Lost Boys Nightmare on Elm Street 4 The Dream Master (sorry but I LOVE Nightmare 4) Nightmare on Elm Street 3 Dream Warriors Nice list... but been honest, you shoul have pick more classicas and leave out SEVERAL SEQUELS... I mean... ALL Halloween and Fridays?
AboveAverage484 Posted September 28, 2003 Author Report Posted September 28, 2003 Whoever mentioned Demons... well yeah, I can't remember every good horror flick. As for all the sequels, there are actually people out there who like some of them, and the possibility of them being the proverbial "cinderella" team, IMO, makes it more interesting. Another thing about poster nominations: You get movies nobody's ever heard of. I've watched just as many horror movies as anybody on here, and even I've never heard of Kairo, Suicide Circle, and Uzumaki. Jaws, Poltergeist, the Ring, etc. are PG-13, which automatically eliminates them. I categorize them as suspense/thriller kind of stuff, not horror. Yes, Scream is a horror movie. I threw a couple sci-fi/horror movies (Alien, The Thing) on there for variety, but Aliens was excluded for no particular reason. But then if I was going for variety, why all the shitty sequels? Sometimes I confuse even myself. Silence of the Lambs and Seven are crime/mystery films. Nothing really horrific about them. Thanks for the feedback, even though not all of it is positive. Thanks to all those whove posted their picks. Hey, Vern Gagne, is that former President James K. Polk in your sig. If so, any particular reason why you have him there? Any interest in history, or is there some kind of hidden joke with it or something.
Mole Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 When Oct 31 comes around, I'll do a REAL horror tourney, where TSM picks the movies. No offense benoitrulz.
Ravenbomb Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 Kairo: http://imdb.com/title/tt0286751/ Suicide Circle: http://imdb.com/title/tt0312843/ Uzumaki: http://imdb.com/title/tt0244870/ The Ring is SO a horror movie yay for Mole doing a poll (no offence, but the more the merrier)
