Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted September 29, 2003 Thanks to Tony Serio of Bucks County, PA for the following report: I attended the Smackdown! roster autograph session on 9/23/03 in the FYE located in the Franklin Mills Mall in Philadelphia. Me and my friend arrived two hours early and were about the 10th and 11th person in line. We were expected only Charlie Haas, Brock Lesnar, John Cena, and Rey Mysterio. To our surprise, along with many other people in line, Chris Benoit and Rhyno has also attended! Our excitement was soon extinguished when we approached the first superstar at the autograph table, Brock Lesnar. I couldn't have met a more ignorant man in my life. He sat there, no smile at all, kept his glasses on and didn't say one word as he signed the posters. He was asked to hold a baby for a picture, and said no. While Benoit, on the other hand, has gladly held the kid. Brock would grunt when asked for a handshake and just look plain miserable the entire time. He was absolutely rude and he shocked many people who attended. The only other superstar who was rude, but no where near as rude as Brock, was Charlie Haas. The first thing he said to my friend was, "Oh my God, all these posters?" Keep in mind we paid $20 and missed school in order to attend this. It seemed that the amateur wrestlers were the ones who seemed to be in the worst moods, coincidence? On a happier note, Rey and Rhyno were pretty good with the fans. Benoit and Cena were just amazing. They did everything and anything to please everyone who was there. Benoit, for instance, would talk to you even though the line is supposed to be moving. Beniot was as much of a class act at this autograph session as he is in the ring, and that's a lot. Cena was also unbelievably great, always the one to offer the handshake, talk to little kids and make them laugh, and do poses for pictures (which weren't even allowed). Overall, if it weren't for Beniot and Cena, I would have left kinda upset. But they made up for the extreme and utter disrespect Brock had given to all the fans who had attended. Austin3164life 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2003 It's always half the roster that isn't too cheery for autographs (and sometimes very rude), and half that are more than willing to sign, and even take a picture. This doesn't really surprise me. I met Benoit, Cena, Angle, and Noble, and all four were very nice guys and really interacted with me and the rest of the fans. I guess a wrestler doesn't really have to suck it up to the fans, and perhaps Brock was trying to keep his heel image.

JN News 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2003 I hope this doesn't result in a depush for Brock. This could mean him jobbing to Taker at No Mercy.
alfdogg 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2003 No offense, but I highly doubt that Brock will be depushed (or punished in any way for that matter) just because he was rude at an autograph signing. Who knows, he could have been sick, stoned, etc. Who knows.
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2003 No offense, but I highly doubt that Brock will be depushed (or punished in any way for that matter) just because he was rude at an autograph signing. I think MAYBE he meant that Brock was angry because he found out recently he was being depushed or something.
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted September 29, 2003 Hence....Tony here probably doesn't get the whole not breaking kayfabe thing. I met many a wrestler and most of them were cool....except Luger...he was a asshole. but sometimes...especially at highly publicized Autograph operatunities, wrestlers may stay in character during the proceedings. the kid's perception of rudeness might be a bit over dramatic.. regardless I doubt Brock would get into any trouble. i've seen worse behavior

SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2003 Hmm.... Charlie Haas is a human. I know that working as a cashier, I sometimes get annoyed when there is long lines for a long period of time. It can get to a person. So I sort of relate with why Charlie Haas might be a bit annoyed to sign a ton of posters for one person. Brock, on the other hand, I don't know how to excuse that. I'd find it hard to shit on people who came to admire me and were thrilled to be able to meet me. It would take quite an ego to not enjoy that. I'm not surprised at all how Cena and Benoit treated the fans. Those two come off as two of the best Smackdown has to offer. Brock does as well. He might just be playing heel to the fans, but who knows.
Guest thrall585 Report post Posted September 29, 2003 WWE shouldn't want the fans to ask for autographs from the heels. This breaks kayfabe, which hurts business. If heels are friendly with the fans and give them autographs, then they won't hate them as much at the wrestling shows. And also it isn't good for heels to give autographs because not many fans want them (mainly just smarks for workrate or if they are a name). If fans hate them at the wrestling shows then they wouldn't want their autograph at an autograph show. They should only allow faces to give out autographs so they shouldn't let any heels go to autograph shows.

They should only allow faces to give out autographs so they shouldn't let any heels go to autograph shows. That makes a lot of sense. However, wouldn't some of us want autographs from people like Chris Jericho, Christian, and John Cena? I think it's okay if the heels still act like heels, but to an extent. Maybe just act all "I'm better than you" in a somewhat joking way. The marks will avoid the heels during autograph sessions and the smarks will be completely amused. Guest thrall585 Report post Posted September 29, 2003 (edited) That makes a lot of sense. However, wouldn't some of us want autographs from people like Chris Jericho, Christian, and John Cena? A tweener should go to an autograph show, but not a heel. Christian is basically a heel, and so is Jericho unless he is in Canada or opposes another heel, and Cena is a tweener I think (haven't paid attention to him much but it seems he mostly gets silence during his entrance with a few people here and there doing the word life sign) and his raps get face heat when he raps against people lower on the card than him, however he gets heel heat when he raps against a main event face unless he says something funny in his rap, or during a match when he is on offense against a main event face. Not certain of any of these, but just my analysis after paying attention for a bit. So I guess as long as Cena doesn't taunt the main event faces with nothing funny in his raps, the fans would want his autograph. SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2003 Jericho could go and Do a Larger The Life Promo and proclaim his agent screwed him.. That's exactly what I meant before! Jericho could have fun playing off the fans in that way, without breaking his heel character but interacting with them on a positive level! The marks would probably respond back accurately and smarks would just have a mark-out moment of their own. However, Brock's heel character isn't supposed to be a silent, 4-eyed, grouch.
