Firestarter Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 "Her character... transforms into Catwoman... to take on her nefarious boss, played by Sharon Stone." Oh yeah. Halle Berry "taking on" Sharon Stone... I'd give my right arm to see that. Rowr.
Mole Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 Cleopatra was black and was played by Liz Taylor. I don't seem to see anything about boycotts or protesting. And Cleo was a real person. Quit yer' bitchin. Very true, just like Jesus.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 Everything about that costume is fucking hot, other than the mask.
dutchse.cx Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 I'm gonna go against the grain and agree with AoO on this one. Wow. Get rid of the damn furryesque mask though.
Guest wrestlingbs Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 Ahhh! It's horrible! Send it to hell! What the f*ck are they thinking? This isn't sexy, it's stupid. Halle, if you want to savage the credibility you had in Monster's Ball and Die Another Day, ditch this script.
dubq Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 Wait, there's a Catwoman movie coming out? This is news to me...
starvenger Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 Well, the costume itself - what little of it there is, that is - sucks. Halle Berry showing some skin is not a bad thing. Still, it's not everything. I reserve judgement on the movie until I see something about the plot, and whether Berry has her working shoes on for the film. So, a Smallville where everyone has powers, a Gotham where Batman quit and every other person is a mutagenetic, a Flash who Quantum Leaps on missions, and of course, Halle Berry. What's next? An Aquaman who has no powers, but just swims real well?
Betty Houle Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 I knew that it'd be crap the moment that I heard that they cast a black woman in the role. I'll still see it though. This is why I love fanboys!

Nighthawk Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 It may be the right thing to do to say the color of their skin doesn't matter, but sometimes you just want them to look how they've always looked. You wouldn't want Superman to have red hair, I don't think.
Downhome Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 What is so dumb about that? I happen to think that the role of Catwoman should go to a white woman, just as I have ALWAYS felt that the role of Jesus should go to a middle eastern and that the role of Cleopatra should go to a black woman. I'm very stern and strict as to who I believe should be cast in certain roles. I'm actually more strict about the Jesus deal, and how just about NO ONE can cast the man correctly.

Ripper Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 So are we pretending that there is no precedent set for a black cat woman? AND its not like she is playing Selena Kyle(her character has already been portrayed to the non-comic reading public). When ethincity isn't important to the character (say like a AFRICAN queen or a MIDDLE EASTERN saviour of man) i could give a happy hell about the race of the actor that plays them, as long as the actor does a good job.
Nighthawk Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 Well, yeah, but since we were already talking about skin color, I thought a different example might be prudent.
Downhome Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 It's just that it isn't normal, it doesn't go with the character. Would you be ok with a black Superman or Batman? I'm sure the majority of hardcore fans of either guy would be quite pissed off at that, and that's why I'm a little bit irked with a black Catwoman. Do you not understand that at all? Had the Catwoman not had a history, had this been a totally original character and film, it'd be perfectly fine for her to be black. IF this movie isn't trying to be THE Catwoman, the one that we DO know and love then it's ok that she's black. Still, what the fuck is the reasoning behind making a NEW Catwoman anyway?
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 A chinese Meteor Man, for example.
Nighthawk Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 Downhome, are you saying you're a hardcore fan of Catwoman? James Mason sucked as Captain Nemo.
Mecha Mummy Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 *Curls up into a ball and starts crying.*

Well, it was normal in the 60's. This isn't the first time that an African-American woman has played the Cat Woman role... hello, Eartha Kitt... Yes, the "original" Selena Kyle that debuted in Batman #1 [1940] is caucasian, but you're being really nitpicky here. Besides all of that, the premise of this movie is apparently that Selena is dead and that Patience is taking over the role of Catwoman, so technically it is a new character.

I know that Eartha Kitt played the role of Catwoman on that TV show, and I have always hated it, on top of everything else I thought she did a shitty job, but that's another topic. If it's a totally new character and it's not THE Catwoman, then I'm ok with Halle playing the role. I mean, God knows it still is awesome seeing her in a cat suit, lol. I just thought they were re-casting the ORIGINAL Catwoman. Now, to bitch about killing off Selena.
Anakin Flair Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 If you look back at my post...I don't give a shit who they cast... I just said that certain people would have a problem with posters questioning it... then in response pointed out that certain people would never shut up if like...Bishop was going to be played by Vin Diesel or something. Or the Kingpin was played by Michael Clarke Duncan? Oh, wait.... Sidenote- I didn't have a problem with Duncan as Kingpin, and I thought he did a good job with what he was given. But, much like Catwoman, he IS white in the comics, and thus some people have problems with it. Side-Side note- my GOD that outfit is ugly.
Mr. S£im Citrus Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 If they signed up a white guy to play a black character...we'd never hear the end of it. A certain "group" just might, OMG, boycott it or something. You know who I'm talking about. I beg your pardon?
Nighthawk Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 Duncan's performance as Kingpin was good. Using the Batman tv series as a guideline for anything, though, is not wise.
eiker_ir Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 damn, that's one crappy costume. They should've kept something like the Batman Returns one. Damn that sucks really...
Tony149 Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 The costume is horrible. The plot is horrible. The new character name is horrible. The movie is going to bomb. This film will have bad reviews from critics and fans alike (and its already started). This is why the real Catwoman (Selina Kyle) can't appear in a Batman movie. After this, Berry is supposed to start filimg JINX (Yes, here Die Another Day character). At least the Batman franchise is in good hands will Nolan.

ant_7000 Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 Yea, Amish people always love to boycott. They didn't portray us right their beard is to short blah blah blah. Oh yea, im not feeling the fur face mask and the costume should be a full body.
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 Shaddup with the black / white crap... Michael Clark Duncan played Kingpin, nobody seemed to have a problem. I actually think he did a good job(With the material given), although he was horribly mis-used. Why can't we just hold hands, stand around a Campfire, and sing "We Are The Word"... Is that so hard ?
ant_7000 Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 Hell, Samuel L Jackson always say in his interviews that his roles were made for white actors, and I don't hear no one complaining about it.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 His roles are characters created out of nothing. None of them have been characters that have an actual following. More to the point...it would be like casting a white guy as Shaft.
