AndrewTS Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 Noticed this link after sending an e-mail. I never considered myself particularly good at math, so I expected to do lousy. I got 9 out of 10 so I'm happy, despite being out of high school for quite some time and not having many math couses that brought some of the featured stuff up. Remember, kiddies... Spoiler (Highlight to Read): Pythagorus is your friend, and the measurement of angles A+B+C = 180 degrees. So close to a perfect score...surface area, not volume, dummy *bonks self*.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 I didn't when I was actually in 8th grade, so I doubt I would now...
Jobber of the Week Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 Same here. I kind of magically passed through school due to the lazyness of the system to make me do it over. =b
Dr. Tom Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 10/10 I was always pretty good at math.
Jingus Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 The pictures for the problems won't load for me.
Guest Choken One Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 I was horrible but the system got me passed because really in Middle school all you have to do is show up.
Kahran Ramsus Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 10/10, but then I have a bachelor's degree in math.
EricMM Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 I got 8/10. I misread one of them and assumed the other one. I didn't do the math for one and it screwed me!
Guest Retro Rob Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 I gave up on Question 3 since the answer I got twice was not a choice. Keep in mind, I didn't use a calculator.
Lightning Flik Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 ...this is American (Illinois State to be more precise) grade 8 math? ...is it wrong for me to admit I was doing this stuff in grade 7? Even worse, this is the easy stuff at grade 7. I mean, I was learning algebra and higher crap than this at grade 7. Actually, looking at all the other questions, most of this is like grade 6 math. Wow... Simply wow. This is grade 8 math? Geez, I'd be a wizard down there. 7/10 because I read three questions wrong. Two dealing with Surface Area (I thought depth), and the other because I didn't take into account the -5 on the triangle.
Guest renegade v.1 Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 10/10 where we alloud to use a calculator cause i have done this stuff before i am just about to finish high school and we can use a calculator as much as we want i just dunnno if you yanks are alloud or what.
Slayer Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 10/10 here too 10/10, but then I have a bachelor's degree in math. Sweet, I'm in my junior year towards a BS in math. Where'd you go?
AndrewTS Posted October 16, 2003 Author Report Posted October 16, 2003 Flik: Naw, doesn't sound surprising. I learned it early myself, but I was going to a private school until I went on to high school. It may vary from school to school and state to state, natch. Except for the diagrams and stuff, it was very easy, especially ones requiring only simple multiplication and division. Perhaps they intentionally gave an early quiz which didn't require us to know too many complicated formulas. And yet you got 7/10. HA!! renegade v.1: We usually use calculators in later grades.
Guest JacK Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 10/10 . . . but then I'm studying for my Final year High School Maths, at Extension 2 level (which for none-Australian-NewSouthWalesians is basically some Uni Maths at High School) But it was tricky doing all that feet and inches mumbo bajumbo. Forgot you all still use that system.

I got a seven out of ten for being a dumb ass and not fully reading the question.
Jingus Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 The stupid fucking pictures on the stupid fucking problems still won't load for me. What's the deal? But looking at the test, damn, they've got it easy in Illinois. Everyone makes fun of Tennessee's educational programs, but here we were way past this shit in 8th grade, on into algebra. Hell, I even knew a freshman who took pre-calculus one time. This kiddie test is way below average difficulty for its claimed level.
Vyce Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 8/10. The surface area problems proved to be my bane. Math was always my weakest subject. I couldn't seem to get more than a high B, low A. At least I always kicked major ass in the verbal.
Der Kommissar Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 9 out of 10. I am shocked. I only had no clue whatsoever on the last question. I sucked at math in high school. I only passed because my teacher was a moron. She'd give you half credit for just putting down an answer on tests, so, as long as I had a few correct, I did fine. Plus, the majority of the grade was for writing down notes and homework assignments even if you had no clue what you were doing on them. All in all, that usually added up to an easy B for me. I hate math.
Guest ToddRoyal Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 7/10. I'm shocked I did that well actually, math is/was my worst subject. I got the ones that everyone is having a problem with right, though and got a bunch of easy ones wrong. Math. Bleh.
CanadianChris Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 10/10, but then, I have a bachelor's degree in math as well.
Slayer Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 A couple guys here with degrees in Math, wow MAIN EVENT COMPLEX ANALYSIS
Spaceman Spiff Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 (edited) 10/10, but no degree in math. And 8th grade was a long time ago. EDIT: the congruent angles question was really the only one that gave me pause. I forgot what congruent angles meant, but I was able to reason it out. Edited October 16, 2003 by Spaceman Spiff
Guest Fook Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 10/10 I'm getting my bachelor's in math right now, so anything less would be shameful.
Dr. Tom Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 EDIT: the congruent angles question was really the only one that gave me pause. I forgot what congruent angles meant, but I was able to reason it out. Likewise. I actually had to think about it for a second, until the meaning of "incongruous," which is a word I like, came to mind. It's weird that I can still recall procedures and formulas, but forget a simple definition. Btw, I didn't use a calculator, either.
Spaceman Spiff Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 Btw, I didn't use a calculator, either. You figured out the square root of 520,000 without using a calculator? Color me impressed.
monkey Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 9 out of 10 Although it did help remind me how far my math skill has gone down since finishing school
Slayer Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 Btw, I didn't use a calculator, either. You figured out the square root of 520,000 without using a calculator? Color me impressed. Numeric approximation 520,000 = 52 * 100² sqrt(520,000) = sqrt(52) * 100 sqrt(52) will be a bit higher than 7, so the sqrt(520,000) will be a bit higher than 700 (about 721 to be exact) A bit more work than you'd probably want to do (given that calculator use is pretty much automatic for kiddies these days), but that's how you'd do it without one
Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 9/10, not too difficult. I f'd up the "which is the biggest" one because I didn't feel like doing all of the math shorthand (I wasn't using a calculator). Ah well, I'm a low A student anyway, so this is fairly accurate . WOO I PASSED 8TH GRADE.

Color me no longer impressed.
