BoboBrazil Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 You can take this for what it’s worth, but over the course of the last few weeks, more and more WWE wrestlers are asking me specific questions about NWA TNA and their health, as well as their long-term prospects of making it. I think it’s fairly obvious why wrestlers would be asking such a question, given how business is in WWE right now. It’s safe to say that the vast majority of the wrestlers out there are hoping that TNA can become a serious number two promotion. 1wrestling.com
Dangerous A Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 I could see WWE falling down to TNA levels in popularity in the next 2-3 years if McMahon-a-mania keeps running wild. For what it's worth, I hope TNA does emerge as a competitive #2. At least from a workers point of view. It sucks balls to try to negotiate and get lowballed by WWE because they are the only show in town. Again, I see WWE falling more than I see TNA moving up. TNA has their own problems as well.
2GOLD Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 In other words, the WWE locker room isn't getting the money they once got and the writers/McMahon family aren't showing any signs of trying to correct the mistakes. Makes you wonder if when his deal runs out if guys like Jericho, who I imagine wants to spend time with his family and work with his band Fozzy, won't leave. I expect Vince is about to turn his guns on TNA and try to crush it before it can even get started.
BoboBrazil Posted October 16, 2003 Author Report Posted October 16, 2003 He already tried. That is why they had to sign everyone to long term deals. He was going to start buying up everyone not under a contract. Plus, he already blocked them from putting ads on Spike during Raw.
Guest nikowwf Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 1wrestling has an owner who is also part owner in TNA, so any TNA news from there is questionable as far as I am concerned. niko
2GOLD Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 I'm hoping it is true. I NEED another wrestling organization on my tv to rise up against the WWE and their awful writing team. Plus it does sound logical since most of these guys probably already have saved their money well and a shorter schedule could increase the length of their careers.
Guest Mulatto Heat Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 Is it too much for me to hope that the ones who were asking him were the Trifecta of Bitter Perennial Midcarders? ('Shaw, Gunn and Holly) .... nah, it couldn't be. They get the office blowjobs, why would they want to leave?
The Ghost of bps21 Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 I'm sure they'd ask about it's health. ANY other place you can get a paycheck is worth checking out when you get to the end of your contract, or are someone who isn't used at all.
BoboBrazil Posted October 16, 2003 Author Report Posted October 16, 2003 It is probably people like Rico, Kanyon, and Stevie Richards asking.
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 1wrestling has an owner who is also part owner in TNA, so any TNA news from there is questionable as far as I am concerned. niko I definatly agree, but it's still a good discussion piece reguardless......
The Ghost of bps21 Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 I think it's a non story because I was sure it was happening. Guys like Raven and D-Lo who were WWE guys for a time (D-Lo a long time) are there now and they have friends in the lockerroom. And most of those friends are the exact guys that worry about their jobs as the company does worse and worse.
King Cucaracha Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 Makes you wonder if when his deal runs out if guys like Jericho, who I imagine wants to spend time with his family and work with his band Fozzy, won't leave. Apart from probably loving the business and wanting to wrestle day in, day out etc...if I were Jericho, I'd choose a promotion like TNA with the next couple of years. He's got money already so that's not as much of an issue, plus his band will bring in the cash. He can be the top guy in the company again...and not be made to look a fool(probably)...plus family stuff. If this is true, or even remotely true, Vince needs to wake up and realise what's about to happen.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 Jericho broke through enough that I see him as a WWE guy. What I mean is... If he hadn't been brought into WWE...I guarantee RVD would have been one of the first guys TNA called when they started up. 2.5 years after going to the WWE...RVD STILL isn't a WWE guy. Jericho, on the other hand, is too big for TNA.
cabbageboy Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 Well, Jericho and RVD came in under different circumstances. Jericho just didn't resign with WCW and came to the WWF amidst huge hoopla. He hasn't been in another promotion since 1999, so he's looked at now as a WWF/WWE guy. RVD is still an ECW guy to me, mainly because he was there from 1996 to 2001, while he's only been in WWE since 2001. I men god, even in his initial WWF stuff he was still an ECW guy....he and Dreamer were the only ECW guys who didn't "sell out" to the WWF, just went there when they had no options. I guess the difference is this: if Jericho went to the NWA he'd look like the Road Dog or all these other ex WWF guys. Basically like he is slumming. If RVD went there, it would be looked more like Raven...a guy who was fed up with WWE and wanted to go back to his roots. RVD is the exact guy the NWA needs. If they keep a few restrictions on him (as in no stalling and posing constantly) and throw out the WWE limits on his moveset, he'll be incredibly over. Oh, and let him cut promos he is more comfortable doing.

Bob Ryder is saying that WWE guys want to go to NWA? Get the heck outta town! What next --- will he say that ECW was a great fed? -=Mike --- He's a shill, kids
The Ghost of bps21 Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 Where does it say that people in the WWE want to go to TNA? It says people are asking about their health. There's a huge difference there. When you have as many people on the roster as WWE does...and as many people as they don't even use... It's IMPOSSIBLE to think those people would question their job security when other people who weren't used (Raven, Dlo) were cut?
Steviekick Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 RVD is still an ECW guy to me, mainly because he was there from 1996 to 2001, while he's only been in WWE since 2001. Steviekick Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 It's IMPOSSIBLE to think those people would question their job security when other people who weren't used (Raven, Dlo) were cut? True. However, I see a bunch of lower carders at Tommy Dreamer's level in the promotion being more worried. Let's face it, they bring in green OVWers and they get more TV time.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 That's who I was talking about. The Kanyons of the world.
Guest BDC Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 I wish we did have an alternative to WWE. I mean, I watched WCW more than WWE, even through the crappiest of the crappy because they had more of the wrestling I liked. Sure, I'd watch the WWE main events over the WCW ones, but that was because of my dislike to Nash and such. The biggest problem is that as a student, I have no $ and since I live on campus, I couldn't order them if I wanted to. Let's say TNA gets a TV deal. I'd point for RVD to switch in a heartbeat. As is, though, I kinda hope that RVD stays put, maybe a one-year extension to give TNA some more time. RVD, Jericho, those are about the only reasons I enjoy Raw. Smackdown has Tajiri, Rey, Benoit, Angle and so on. 'Course, we never see them anyway. To end the rambling, TNA on TV would be so terrifically great I can't describe it with mere words. They ought to talk to USA...
Vyce Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 That's who I was talking about. The Kanyons of the world. Exactly. If you were a guy like Kanyon, who pretty much never makes it past Velocity while the McMahons are prominently displayed on BOTH major wrestling shows, wouldn't you start inquiring about other opportunities for yourself? It's simple pragmatism.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 Honestly, it's not much of a secret Ryder is in with TNA. I mean the whole point of the story is guys are asking him about it. I think when he starts with "take it for what it's worth" he means "Yes, I am working for Jarrett, and I'm reporting this anyway" anyway, it would be hardly a suprise if guys on the outs with The Vince are looking at TNA. I mean honestly, guys like Kanyon could be fired at any time, and WWE is gonna dump more and more guys as they lose more money.
BoboBrazil Posted October 17, 2003 Author Report Posted October 17, 2003 Actually it was Dave Sherer who reported this. Dave Sherer is the most reliable wrestling news guy on net besides Dave Meltzer. He doesn't like TNA or even watch it I don't think, so there is no reason for him to put up bs rumors. If it was Bob Ryder there would be reason to doubt it, but since it is Sherer you can almost guarantee that it is legit.
Guest Coffey Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 I really do ponder what someone like Stevie Richards thinks about his career. I mean, in the WWE, he isn't used too often in a wrestling role. However, his ties with Victoria get him on TV, and you can't deny that it seems like Stevie is having fun playing the male valet. However, would he rather go to NWA:TNA so that he could get back with his friends and return to an active wrestling role? I think Stevie would be a jobber anywhere, so he's better off taking the biggest paycheck.
razazteca Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 If WWE was threaten by TNA, I would guess the company would do what it could to "steal" talent for the sole purpose of preventing them from becoming a "superstar who can draw" in NWA TNA.
Guest Coffey Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 Kindof hard to do when said talent is under a contract....
The Ghost of bps21 Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 Yeah, TNA got everyone they use regularly under year long contracts a month ago.
BoboBrazil Posted October 17, 2003 Author Report Posted October 17, 2003 It is a shame Low Ki was injured at the time. He deserves a 2 year contract also.
Guest JMA Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 I really do ponder what someone like Stevie Richards thinks about his career. Vyce Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 Also, it isn't really feasible for Vince to do any major talent raiding anyway.
