NBA going to 6 divisions

Recommended Posts

Most of us were pretty sure this was going to happen, but it's now official that they're going to do it. It will be done geographically, which will be a HUGE clusterfuck in the East, with the NE and Florida teams probably being scattered all around two divisions. NO will move to the West, but you knew that already. I still don't see the point of moving the Hornets out of Charlotte if they were just going to put another team there...give the expansion team to someone like Vegas or St. Louis. I'll do some research and have a prediction on the divisions later.

The playoffs will still have eight teams per conference, the three division winners and the next five best records.

No names were discussed for the divisions.

Discuss.

Well glad you both put Golden State and Sacramento in the same division because there has been a rumor they might be split up even though they are only about two hours apart. I think going to six divisions is unnecessary.

Charlotte was still a basketball hotbed, but they were so pissed off at George Shinn for his "holier then thou" attitude, his sexual assault case, and generally being a complete ignorant fuck that they stayed away in protest.

Now that Shinn is out of town, Charlotte should support the Panthers. In theory.

What's the point of even having divisions? Why not just have two leagues, and take the eight best teams. The only thing this realignment does is give a mediocre team a backdoor into the postseason, by winning a weak division.

As has been shown in the NHL.

Exactly what I was going to say.

The only thing it does is emphasize regional rivalries by having teams play those in the their division more often that others. But it's pointless, because some divisions are bound to be weak. Can't wait to see some useless NBA team get that coveted third seed. *sigh*

You already broke hockey, leave the NBA alone!

Also in baseball too although not quite the extreme of hockey just yet. The hidden blessing of the '94 strike was that avoided the embarassment of the A.L. West "Champ" having a losing record.

Umm Dallas finished like a game behind the Spurs last year.

Actually they were tied.

Indiana's division will officially include Chicago, Detroit, Milwaukee and Cleveland, according to the Indianapolis Star. Minnesota and Memphis apparently wanted to move to the East, but were denied.

Apparently, this isn't *quite* a done deal yet. It says that the Board of Governors recommended the move, and there is still a formal vote to take place. But I'm still betting it's going to happen.

One contender, one team on the way up, and 2 expansion teams that got run out of town.

Well it does not matter if the Nuggets and Jazz get replaced by the Grizzles and Hornets because they all are just mere jobbers. There is no more history with the Jazz now that Malone and Stockon are no longer with the team.

B-b-but the Nuggets, they have 'Melo! 'MELO, BAH GAWD!

I like six divisions for 30 teams. That's the best way to go if you insist on having that many teams.
