The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2003 What the fucking fuck. Take a look at the middle of Exhibit A. That ugly mustard alternate is still around? Does that mean somebody purchased one? I suppose it's passable despite the Christmas tree scheme, but somebody said that writing the full team name is bush-league. Oh. Right. http://www.nhluniforms.com/2000s/Images/Canucks3.gif It's too big to post here. Teams like the Predators and Coyotes have only two or three ugly jerseys, but Vancouver, always on the cutting edge, decides to put out FIVE abominations. That thing just plain baffles me. Slayer 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2003 Face it, for the most part, since the early 90's or so, modern day hockey jersey designers have been hitting and missing quite badly. For every good uniform design in the last couple years... Whalers to Hurricanes 'Diques to Avs Canucks late 90's redesign LA Kings redesign (though I liked the silver and black design) There's a horrible design or idea... Mighty Ducks - Who thought that shade of green and that shade of purple would go well together, WHO? The original Coyotes uniform - WTF logo was that, first, and color combo bad on the eyes. Thankfully fixed with this years better looking uniform Minnesota - When I first saw this, combined with the original Coyotes uniform, I wondered what the NHL's obsession was with this combination of green and red. Calgary dropping flaming C (one of my personal favorite logos in sports) off the road (now home) jerseys in favor of a flaming horse Flyers dropping the orange classic road (now home) uniform in favor of black Bruins alternate golden abomination And that's ignoring the '96 abominations that were the Islanders ferryman uni, along with the Anaheim and LA alternate unis, since the NHL did have the good sense to yank the plug on those quickly. Actually I could rant on how sports logo designers in general have jumped the (San Jose) shark majorly on logo designs in the last 10-15 years, but that's another thread
Bored 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2003 God I remember in the early 90s at school EVERYONE had Sharks sweaters, hats, or parkas even though none of them could probably name one player on the team. How in the hell would anyone even know that that one sweater is for the Stars?

Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted October 19, 2003 Another case for why the NHL is losing money. I mean people don't want to walk out of their house looking like absolute shit...and for those that do they aren't going to pay 55-120 bucks to do so when they can just wear a stained white t-shirt along with a Ms. Pac-Man ballcap that roughly comes to around $12 total
the max 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2003 Mighty Ducks - Who thought that shade of green and that shade of purple would go well together, WHO? The original Coyotes uniform - WTF logo was that, first, and color combo bad on the eyes. Thankfully fixed with this years better looking uniform Well, it was in the movie. Now, they have kind of tweeked the colors and made it semi-passable, even if the team can't win anymore. The original Coyotes uniform - WTF logo was that, first, and color combo bad on the eyes. Thankfully fixed with this years better looking uniform This year's uniform is crap. At least the black/green was different, and the logo was kind of neat. Minnesota - When I first saw this, combined with the original Coyotes uniform, I wondered what the NHL's obsession was with this combination of green and red. Wild white, and Wild green are good jerseys. They're simple. The new red one, admittedly is BAD (I was thinking a primarily black jersey, with green outlining). Calgary dropping flaming C (one of my personal favorite logos in sports) off the road (now home) jerseys in favor of a flaming horse Which are gone now, in favor of a red jersey with a black Flaming C (which looks bad ass) Flyers dropping the orange classic road (now home) uniform in favor of black The alternate is orange now. Even if the orange is classic, the amount of orange on the uniform always made them look like hunting jackets. Bruins alternate golden abomination ...I like that jersey. I still have one around somewhere.
Brush with Greatness 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2003 We have vastly differing opinions on good jerseys. Whalers to Hurricanes 'Diques to Avs Canucks late 90's redesign LA Kings redesign (though I liked the silver and black design) The Whalers jerseys were great (once they moved from the green to the navy blue) were great. The symbol was always medioric but no worse than the "Eye of the Hurricane" or whatever that is. Anyways, Whaler jerseys were far greater. Nordiques to Avs. Don't get me wrong, the Avs jerseys aren't bad (actually their third jersey is extremely cool) but don't be dissin the fleur de lis. Those Nords jerseys were great with the Nords white jerseys being extremely cool looking for some unexplainable reason (perhaps it's the vast amount of white). Canucks redesign. Colours - Good. Symbol - Terrible. What the hell is that anyways? Yes, I know it has to do with Orca Bay (who owned the Canucks at the time) but seriously what if every team starting basing their symbols around the corporation that owns them. Kings jerseys. Agreed. They are great. Minnesota - When I first saw this, combined with the original Coyotes uniform, I wondered what the NHL's obsession was with this combination of green and red. Awesome uni's. The colours are way better than the Coyotes. I really love the Wild uniforms and the fact that they didn't just do something easy like black, etc. And their emblem is incredible saying so many things at once. Slayer 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2003 Well, it was in the movie. Now, they have kind of tweeked the colors and made it semi-passable, even if the team can't win anymore. And the jerseys in the movie were ugly too. Hell, the fact they even made a franchise after the movie was bad in itself. This year's uniform is crap. At least the black/green was different, and the logo was kind of neat. If you say so... I dunno WTF that logo was though... looked like what would happen if Picasso designed sports logos Wild white, and Wild green are good jerseys. They're simple. If you say so... again... I think in the cases of this and the old Phoenix uni that that shade of red and that shade of green used as they were was just bad Which are gone now, in favor of a red jersey with a black Flaming C (which looks bad ass) I saw that, looks allright, though I still miss the classic red uni with white C... Also, this year's unis page from the nhluniforms website still has the horsehead jersey as an alternate, though I would shed no tears if it were dumped The alternate is orange now. It's just not the same (too different a design), IMO Even if the orange is classic, the amount of orange on the uniform always made them look like hunting jackets. <insert old joke about why Flyer fans wear orange> ...I like that jersey. I still have one around somewhere. You bought one? Haha Though I'm guessing the overwhelming stench of the '96 jerseys were so strong even you could not disagree with those
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2003 You know the new orange Flyers jerseys are funny. At first I hated them, then they grew on me, then they became my favorite, then after seeing other teams' alternate jerseys they have become my favorite jersey in any sport. I do despise the black jersey though. Just wayyyyyy to much black on those things.

Those Nords jerseys were great with the Nords white jerseys being extremely cool looking for some unexplainable reason (perhaps it's the vast amount of white). I wasn't saying the original unis sucked... hell, I loved those original unis too. My point was the redesign that would have to come with the franchises moving could have resulted in some shitty unis given the trend that was being established in sports logos in the early 90's (going back to my statement earlier), but the Avs and Hurricanes unis turned out to be pretty good, IMO. Canucks redesign. Colours - Good. Symbol - Terrible. What the hell is that anyways? Yes, I know it has to do with Orca Bay (who owned the Canucks at the time) but seriously what if every team starting basing their symbols around the corporation that owns them. The symbol doesn't make sense, but I'm guessing Vancouver is apparently a team doomed to have shitty logos (block with stick in it, Flying V, the skating blade, current) I mean, after all, how the hell does one symbolize a "Canuck" (obvious cultural jokes aside)? treble 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2003 The Preds, Stars, and Wild's 3rd jerseys all blow (as do most of the one's in the NHL [a few excluded [Toronto and Ottawa come to mind], with the Bruins leading the way). Also, and I don't know why, I don't like how the Canucks have their original logo as shoulder patches now, it just bugs me. Speaking of the Canucks, personal opinion says that their skateblade sweaters were their best, although I do dig their current dark uniforms. When I was 10 or so, I hated the Nordiques, probably mostly due to the fact that they sucked, but probably also because I had no idea what their logo was supposed to be. Looking back, though, I realize how good they are compared to a lot of the shit that's out there today. On the topic of Quebec, I remember a few years back while looking aroudn the 'net, I learned that they had planned to change their uniform for the 1995-96 season. The logo was a wolf, I believe, and I also think that there was some silver in the new colour scheme. I think they planned to still wear their old sweaters a few times a year, though. Of course, they moved to Colorado before any of this could happen. The Carolina jerseys are decent, but not as good as the ones they wore for the last few years in Hartford. The pea green ones were God awful, but when they incorporated the teal and the grey in there, the quality shot way up. I also prefer the Gretzky-era King sweaters, although the current ones are decent.

kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2003 Wow, those are so old I can't find them on Google -- then again I didn't try that hard in the first place. Funny Penguin story. Years ago management whined about wanting these expensive seats, so the city spent MILLIONS to build these things. Problem was they had less leg room than the regular seats. It got so bad the Pens were offering these seats free as part of some ticket package deals. And you wonder why the city is now bankrupt...
